I know. Personally, just risk it and play both. Who the hell cares if you need to maybe pinch hit 2-3 times or let the pitcher bat once. Also, odds are the Catcher doesn't get hurt. Or just call up Korey Lee instead of some other waste of space player.4 points

The X posts were hilarious yesterday. There are so many people on there that live constantly looking in the rearview mirror. Vaughn hits a home run, and "Milwaukee fixed him" or "He just didn't want to play for the Sox" or "Sox should have kept him". Chances are, Vaughn will end up hitting like Andrew Vaughn in Milwaukee.4 points

Getz clearly has no idea how to identify offensive talent. This is what happens when you hire from within when the offense is already failing.3 points

These guys are as flat as we’ve seen in awhile. Nothing but pop ups and weak fly balls.3 points

He's getting traded. There's no way that they pick up a $20 million option. He's a great fit for the Phillies. They are horrible against LHP and he has a 144 wRc+ vs LHP with great defense. There's still some value.3 points

So being a worker who organizes to increase bargaining power and make things more even makes one a grifter... then what are business owners?3 points

I agree with letting them play, but the cornerstone of the offense today being worth 1.5 fWAR is far from a tremendous win IMO. Also, baseball is a streaky game naturally. You really can't just cherry pick the peak periods and say that's the ability. That's the same stuff that tricked people with Vaughn. Almost everyone in the big leagues can get hot and carry teams.. Chris Shelton mania. I said at the beginning of the year that Vargas would justify himself as an everyday MLB starter. Which I think he's really close to doing but he certainly hasn't proven it yet. His xwOBA is in the 35th percentile, and he's an average (at best) fielder and base runner. He also has 831 career MLB AB's so I think we're really reaching talking about his first season. Edit: The fact that no one here would talk about Sosa the way they're talking about Vargas says a lot, given that they've been basically the same player from a value perspective despite SOsa having 100 fewer AB's.3 points

Vargas was ass for his first 22 games. He OPSed .890 from 4/23-6/22. He then dropped off and got one hit in 9 games. He's hit in 2 of the last 3. This is what "playing the kids and letting them figure it out in the bigs" looks like. This is his first full season in the big leagues. The fact that he'll probably put it together again and clear 2 bWAR by the end of the season is a tremendous win.3 points

I don't care what Vaughn does in Milwaukee, he couldn't get it done here.3 points

I think this is only in your imagination. He isn’t lolligagging. I’m not sure he’s even had an opportunity to lolligag, ie beating out an infield hit. He does look really fuckin slow though getting started, like a freight train. he’s busting his ass at short, man. That’s something more to look at, I think. His offense has been pristine so far if you ask me. He’s super impressed me beyond my expectations, and I’m a homer.3 points

And 1/2 of the starting 10 for this rebuilding team is 30 or over. It's ridiculous. They just aren't serious.2 points

imo Toronto booth is one of the top 10 in baseball, I enjoy listening to them. can't stand the Sox booth since hawk retired2 points

Sox fans can't have nice things. Cheapass owners are all like that.2 points

lmao, I think I might make this my profile pic. Excellent crop. Are we winning? I just got home. edit: why am I not surprised to be down 4 already? Get Andrew Vaughn on the mound edit2: you called it "oh f***.png" hysterical2 points

I broke my vow of not watching the Sox until JR is gone but my new one is not to listen to the Sox broadcast.2 points

Reward his first home run with 3 games on the bench. Venable losing points with me on how he's handling the teel/quero situation.2 points

It’s like we are forgetting that Reinsdorf nearly singlehandedly caused the lockout in a year the Sox had a good chance to win the World Series. Sox fans didn’t forgive that, which had nothing to do with Harry or Sosa.2 points

Shockingly he's gotten in 51 games already and has -1 fWAR. Such a stupid signing we really just light money on fire with these "vet stop gaps" when the younger cheaper guys are already around. We aren't winning anything I don't get it. It's likely to just save face but Getz is so bad at scouting these vets that only 1/4 or so is actually a positive WAR player. He hit on Tauchmann, he struck out on half a dozen others.2 points

Sammy would never have had the same marketing effect with the Sox as he did with the Cubs. The Chicago media was largely controlled by the Tribune, which did a masterful job of promoting Sammy as the shoeshine boy who made it big through hard work. They protected him from any questioning of his sudden physical transformation. The Cubs PR team threatened anyone questioning Sammy with being cut off from access. If this had happened with him in a Sox uniform there would have been daily commentary about the disgraceful Sox cheating to win, and any championship won with him on the roster would have been deemed fraudulent. And the Sox have never been particularly good at PR.2 points

I thought it was me just being negative, but people around me were commenting on it being the worst they’ve seen the park in a long time. Oh well, it will probably be another few years before I go. I will say, the White Sox youth camp at least nailed the Sox sliding mitt this year. My youngest loves it.2 points

I agree they're really half assing it at the park. We went last night too. The left field scoreboard was out the whole game. Chisox bar and grill wont let you sit upstairs because they're understaffed so they pack the lower portion wall to wall. Bunch of stands closed. Only ticket windows open were in the front of the park. Seems they're spending the bare minimum everywhere.2 points

Schoolcraft at 10 with Parker on the board would have me inventing new cuss words because the normal ones wouldn’t be enough.2 points

Him and Noda. I see Elko continues to hit in minors. He's been taking a lot more walks and continues to hit for average, power, and drive in runs. Just let him play the 2nd half of the year and see if you have anything.2 points

The new Washington Commanders stadium So, you think that 75% of all the people in Cook Country are grifters or (gasp) government workers? And that being in a union automatically makes someone a grifter? Sounds far fetched. And I'm not sure what government workers have to do with building a new stadium.2 points

I'm betting on Vargas. He's had rough stretches, but he has very high baseball IQ. The sox had a good decade stretch of zero baseball players you could say that about.2 points

Would gladly trade Vargas and a pitcher for Matt Shaw. It's a roll of the dice, but lots of guys struggle at the start.2 points

Yobal Rodriguez gave up two runs today,. He's now at 21.1 IP with a 0.84 ERA and 22 strikeouts.2 points

Sosa became a national disgrace and MLB embarrasment. No regrets.2 points

He just needs to pull the ball. There must be some weakness/hole in his swing that causes so many pop ups to the right side1 point

What would Vargas even be worth? Since they traded for him, he had a stretch of being the worst hitter, then from end of April through like May he was good, and since he’s been bad again. He is young and has time on his side though.1 point

I right there with you on those guys also, good riddance.1 point

I mean never a bad position to add, but I would have put outfield as I don't see a single long term starter in our org there.1 point

Sosa was not a product of Sox farm system...they got him in a trade with Texas.1 point

I’d love it if they come up with a new bit. They only do one bit. I think we know why they’re calling it “America’s team”. I’m a Chicagoan thus I like homoerotic performances, it’s just like, come up with a new idea, bros1 point

No question... he doesn't feel players deserve what they are being paid. Never has since the mid-1980's. I remember reading years ago a quote from him where he said something along the lines of 'I didn't realize how much winning costs...' This was after the Sox had that great 1983 season and then guys all wanted raises.1 point

Good for him. I'm one of the people who does buy into his underlying contact metrics and stuff, so I hope the change of scenery helps.1 point

Does not feel like there is support in the sox for players like Laviollete, they have passed on so many like him last 5 years or so. And not even incorrectly.1 point
-
I think if either Carlson or Parker there you have to pick one of the two. If not available I would think they are going underslot which then floating Schoolcraft to round 2 makes a ton of sense. Don’t love the idea of passing on of the 2 stud prep SS just to push Schoolcraft down.1 point
-
The Dodgers have people playing all over the field at times and have for a long time. It hasn't impacted their production at all. Now if a guy gets injured because he's playing a position he is completely incompetent at - fine. But I don't think playing 2B instead of SS is going to be such a big deal that an otherwise great hitter ends up being bad. Not a chance. If they were that weak - they would fail anyway in baseball - its a hard sport.1 point

And I have never once said that a build is impossible or that the pricetag wouldn't be steep. Talk to the dude grasping at straws as to why it's impossible, not the rest of us with a rational perspective.1 point
