  1. This reliever will appear in more games than Robert will.

  2. I would like to think I willed this into existent. Been saying he would be a good add for a few weeks (even if not repeatedly on here haha)

  4. I am just going to s%*# on this because of the process. 1. Again, the idea we had to get rid of Roberts' salary to clear the way to sign a reliever for ten million dollars a year is absurd. 2. Why are we embracing flip candidates? I will get excited when we actually start building a sustainable roster with good players, rather than just signing them to reasonable deals only to trade them away to contending teams. 3. I stil believe that Robert is undervalued here. The truth is find centerfielders who are gold glovers, steal 40 bases and hit 20 home runs a year is very rare. I understand that he will only play 120 games. However, that's his floor. That's not a bad floor for a team that has very few good players on it. 4. I really liked watching Luis. He was exciting to watch. I will miss him and hope he reaches his potential with the Mets.

  5. This. All of the moves are to make improvements with placeholders until the prospects are ready. They know they aren't playoff ready and are approaching it that way.

  6. I dunno. Everyone here mostly tells me how dogshit it's been.

  8. To quote Tom Waddle “My kids don’t get extra credit for not doing drugs.” And staying on the Bears theme…a few weeks ago when the Bears were playing the 49ers, Darnell Wright was sick and looked like he may miss the game. On Saturday, he was feeling better and the Bears flew him to San Fransisco on a jet with a member of the training staff. 10 years ago, Darnell Wright is probably flying commercial because that’s not the way the Bears did business. My point is while I’m happy to see them keeping up with the times, I’m not rushing to give the Bears extra credit for something good organizations have been doing for a long time.

  9. I mean the same could be said for you. The Sox do something that people are excited about and you usually come in with “actually this is why it’s bad.”

  10. Over the last two seasons you have probably posted over 50 times how they blew a game with a lead in the 7th inning or later. This should improve that number substantially. Last year they had 24 of them. Cutting that even in half would make them a much more enjoyable product.

  11. The writers for the game should be embarrassed for praising any team that is spending less than 100 million dollars.

  12. Good move, clear need, tradeable if things go well. Bonkers that it needed to wait until Robert money was moved.

  13. There's nowhere for prep guys to play anymore. Rookie ball is over and these kids aren't ready to go straight to Low-A. They played games in Arizona. We just don't know about them.

  14. What an absolute power move by Getz. The 3-way battle between him, Beckham and Nix ends with him as their boss.

  15. Guess you should be Commisioner then and Run the players union too and all will be well. I dont think theres enough gazillionaires out there to have 30 teams all throwing money around like it's confetti. There is only a few franchises that are appealing because they do that. The rest have to find a balance between profit and winning. Every owner has the right to run their franchise the way they see fit in accordance with the CBA.

  16. That was then this is now. Nothing says itll end the same way . We have a choice to be fatalistic about it or hopeful. I choose hopeful. It's better for our souls and better for those around us to envision hope and light in the midst of darkness.

  17. I most excited that its pretty much a team full of young players with something to prove and I don't have to watch a bunch of worthless veterans taking a lot of at bats.

  18. They want to build up Taylor’s innings in a multi-inning capacity and eventually turn him into a SP down the road. I’m skeptical it will work out just as I was with Crochet and I was wrong there. Regardless, Leasure was the likely closer before this move. And generally agree with your views on bullpen investment, but disagree on one key component. One of the advantages rebuilding teams have is the ability to give players extended runways. That could be for a young, unproven player or could be using a player at a new, more valuable spot or role. You and I have debated this topic before, as I am big fan of adding post hype prospects who haven’t been given extended opportunities. Pereira is an example of a guy I like going out and adding vs. say someone like Kelenic who has vast failures to believe can suddenly turn the ship around. I have been a huge proponent of taking advantage of our s%*# OF situation and letting Baldwin learn on the fly out there (and ideally play a lot CF). And finally, there is intrinsic value to pitching well in high leverage situations vs. low and medium ones (fWAR accounts for this for a reason). Proven closers routinely return some of the best value come the trade deadline. Even if your team isn’t trying to win, that closer should be utilized on a guy who has stuff and if successful can turn into a trade chip.

  19. Pass on Bader! Not against Giolito though if they can afford him.

  20. I agree. Plus I think prospect hugging will be at an all time high this deadline going into 2027. Fantastic job though by Getz bringing in a capable arm for the backend of this bullpen. Lots of losses last year due to not having reliable arms in the 8th and 9th.

  21. Passan said its the right direction and it is . No one is dancing a jig and envisioning playoffs. But maybe a path to a few more prospects and a bit more consistent winning while the foundational base thickens and prepares to one day be good enough to help the new owner be happy about what he's getting.

  22. I don’t really agree. If you believe in his arm and give him more high leverage opportunities than previously provided, then it’s reasonable to expect his value to go up if pitches as you project him to. Yes, relievers are volatile and there is no guarantee this works out, but closers are always over-valued as the deadline and this is a smart gamble a rebuilding club should take.

  23. Shut up Jeff ! Winning the off season means squat ! We lost Luis Robert out of our great OF and now it's pitiful ! 😜

  24. Leasure was pretty damn good over the 2H of the season. Him and Taylor are your two setup guys.

  25. You've become such a reply-guy, I should start a Patreon. While Robert was here, I certainly reserve the right to hope for the best for him. I've always said he's a 2 bWAR/162 games guy who will not play more than 2/3 of a season. Now that he's gone, I get to look forward to the next set of dudes. I sure hope I have your permission to think this. That would mean so much to me.

  26. Yeah, great chance for them to only spend 5 million of the dollars. I said it last year and the year before. Signing a player with the idea to flip them has never made sense to me and so far, it's basically never worked. It's something fans of rebuilding teams dream up, but doesn't have a lot of history of success or consistency. While relievers see value spikes at deadline, it requires a guy to be elite or truly change who they were before you signed them for their value to exceed their contract they just signed by enough to cash in.

  27. Why the fascination with Robert ? Yes speed and great defense is fun to watch but the bat had 60 great plate appearance in July. The other 4 months he was sup . 600 or sub . 700 OPS and another month he didnt play. And it's been that way for a while.

  28. They will add another OF in some capacity. No way to do they go into camp with just this group. Doubt it will be anything over $5M and might be as a NRI with above league minimum contract if they make the team, but they will add a vet to be part of the spring training mix.

  29. Pal, please stop. There are so many receipts out there. You change your mind based on one thing and one thing only.. Getz! More excited to watch luisangel acuna play than luis robert lol

  30. Bob always gets his guy! Happy for you! Ive retired from being happy about a 100 loss team investing in their bullpen over and over. The idea they'll flip these guys basically never works. He's a quality mlb arm and we know they need more of those though.

  31. I'm probably the biggest pie in the sky guy here, and Robert wasn't promising. At this point, I'm more excited to see what Acuña and Pereira can do.

  32. The overall guaranteed amount is the same I think is what he means even if the AAV isn’t.

  33. Excellent addition. Huge flip potential with that second year.

  34. I agree, but if he gets the closer role and has a really strong first half you're looking at a pretty nice asset to move who will have an additional year of control at only $10 million

  35. I do think they will another starter. Another 1 year deal on a low cost veteran to help eat innings. Same for OF. I don't see them adding anything other than a spare part type who can take at bats

  36. Profile looks decent. Walks too many guys but has pretty electric mix looks like. Hopefully he does solid and is flipped at some point.

  38. 2 years $20 millions, Robert was 1 year $22 million. Like I said, practically the same.

  39. Interesting. I am usually one of those "bad teams shouldn't pay relievers" sort of guys, but there is an opportunity to build value here, so I am intrigued.

  42. April 23, 1990 - It was an unusual event even though it happened in an exhibition game. Utility player Steve “Psycho” Lyons played all nine positions for the Sox during the annual “Crosstown Classic” game against the Cubs at Wrigley Field. Manager Jeff Torborg moved him all over the field during the contest won by the Sox 6-5. Outfielder Dave Gallagher threw out the potential tying run at home plate to end the game

  43. Guy had a .203 BABIP against in 2024. A righty reliever who doesn't miss bats and doesn't generate ground balls usually doesn't have a lot of staying power. He's basically been awful but for that period of good luck. Still a fine free add obviously.

  44. Where’s Brent Lillibridge when you need him?

  45. And its not as if his April & May were even much better than Billy Hamilton with juice. Maybe by LOOKING so much worse without Robert he meant they didnt look as tall, dark and handsome.

  46. There really isn’t any OF worth signing right now for the Sox. Bader is a bit too long in the tooth and is going to get overpaid due to last season. Conforto is blech. Maybe a guy like Hays is worth signing but even if he performs well for the first half, you aren’t dealing him for much of a return. May as well give these guys at bats.
