  1. I get your point but this is a professional media organization. What an individual owner does or does not do has no bearing on the preparation and job they are supposed to be doing.

  2. Mehh when you have an owner that actively doesn’t care about the team you can’t expect the rest of the country to. I too often wish I could pretend like the White Sox don’t exist

  3. Who cares? Wait until you hear about their SEC bias...

  4. Berman gave a more wholehearted congrats to the Red Sox when our Sox sealed the series. It was pathetic. ESPN can suck a boner.

  8. I think Monty eventually ends up in LF. He already has had some back problems early on, and Roch and Bonemer can easily fill in on the left side of the infield if everything goes according to plan.

  9. Berman is such a jackass. Ha! I forgot that David Wells was the pitcher for that at-bat. Two ex-White Sox involved in that play!

  10. This has been a long-standing problem with ESPN. I mean, they actually had an announcer for the Sox-Boston ALDS series actively rooting for the other team! Ohhhh noooo!!!! Everybody's safe!!! The Sox being forgotten and ignored over the last 10 or so years has been self-inflicted, but the way ESPN constantly disregards the team pre-dates the current franchise problems.

  11. If Baldwin shows a big improvement in the OF since he's a switchhitter keep him in the OF as much as possible. l know plenty of guys need a lot of looks in ST but I'd be playing Baldwin every day out there. Getting off to a good start is pretty crucial this year and I'd like some of these young guys to know where they stand and hit the ground running, especially Acuna and Baldwin.

  12. Instead of “bullpen days”, we’re gonna start having “Rule 5 days”. Paez pitches the first inning and Alberto pitches the second. Then the R5 veterans come in with Smith going innings 3-8 and Vasil closing it out in the 9th.

  13. Yup, perfect stop gap until Braden is ready.

  14. Unpopular opinion, and I know his defense something to be desired, but I prefer Sosa over Meidroth if it comes down to one has to go. Meidroth just screams Nick Madrigal to me.

  15. Complaining about 2005 snubs is getting old and kinda cringe we just need to win again. Its been forever.

  16. funny how small market habitual losing teams sign to flip and waiting for their competitive (just around mediocre) moment to arrive. It's just a rinse and repeat. We are so conditioned to that. We would make perfect Marlin fans. Maybe some of you are young enough real winning will happen in your lifetime. The sign to flip takes less than 10 posts to show up. Quality pieces as we think. But what exactly are those? How many of those exist on the farm as of now?

  17. This feels like a completely different sport than the AFC game.

  18. This is why I laugh at Passan for even mentioning the word contender in his post. Good sining, positive move? Sure. They are still closer to 100 losses than .500, and a far cry from 'not contenders yet.'

  19. Feels like the Pats just had the least deserving path to the Super Bowl of all time (both regular and post season). Hope they get destroyed by the Seahawks.

  20. I don't disagree with that. But they need to stop saying it's a "taxpayer-funded stadium". The stadium itself is being privately financed. The Bears are putting a lot more private money toward the stadium than other teams like the Titans, Chiefs, and Commanders are. Sure, there's still a ton of public money going into infrastructure and there's a legitimate argument as to whether that's a good use of tax payer money and they'll have to answer to the voters whatever decision they make. But when politicians go around to the media saying they're not going to give the Bears a "taxpayer-funded stadium", it seems to me that some elected officials are trying to turn public opinion against it.

  25. I don’t see the Bader fit now that we added Acuna. Cheap corner outfield who can be a stop-gap for Braden makes more sense now.

  27. If you’re projecting ahead like that, then what about Bonemer? Could be Caleb at 3B, Roch at SS, and then Colson in the outfield or at 1B. Then again, maybe Bonemer moves to LF.

  28. In the "old days," I would agree with you. With today's 5-inning starts, if we are lucky, it's practically mandatory.

  29. Starters are going shorter than ever which forces a bullpen to play a bigger role. Let me ask you this, what value is there in having a 5th bench piece vs. an extra reliever?

  30. Sounds like Benintendi is going to be used a lot more in the DH slot to keep him healthy and hopefully improve his defense when he has to play LF. For Baldwin, I think people are way over-reacting to bad defense that is the result of being new to the position. Way too early to say he can’t get decent in OF with more reps.

  32. In about 3 weeks, the 60-day IL opens up. There's really no need to start cutting guys, especially the Rule 5 dudes. They'd at least want to get a live look at them before waving goodbye. Hudson wasn't exactly lights out in his 2025 cup of coffee, and Ramos took 3 cycles through the option list and still hasn't established himself at AAA. The Sox also got a long look at Mead last year. I threw out Iriarte. Those are 4 guys who could go if they don't trade somebody this week, and if they don't wait until spring training to use the 60-day. I'd also think they'd want to hang onto Lee deeper into camp. They're going to need catchers, and the World baseball tournament's going to create a bunch of playing time. They'll need bodies. Maybe a trade of Sosa or Cannon is brewing.

  35. Regardless, he’ll probably be more in their price range. Like I said, if guys like Baldwin hit and Montgomery comes up, he’s likely shifting to the bench anyway. And regardless if Acuna or Baldwin hit or not, they should still be in.

  37. one year ago, posters like @Look at Ray Ray Run were saying the Sox could have none in the top 100 this winter. Looks like a solid system that’s about to get a whole lot stronger this summer too. And there’s finally some young talent at the MLB level again as well. Could be the makings of a solid young core ready to compete once Ishbia $ infusions commence in a few years.

  38. MLB Pipeline update is out, pretty different from BA's in both ordering and positioning. 36. Braden Montgomery (BA #73) 40. Noah Schultz (BA #26) 71. Billy Carlson (BA #92) 73. Caleb Bonemer (BA #27) 88. Hagen Smith (BA #91) So no top 30 overalls in Pipeline but 2 in BA. No 90+ guys in Pipeline, but 3 in BA (counting McDougal, who didn't make the Pipeline list). Pipeline has Sox tied for 9th in "prospect points" (100 for rank 1, 99 for rank 2, etc.)

  39. One thing to note regarding the rotation: thanks to fangraphs/roster resources fancy new contract incentive tracker, I noticed today that Sean Newcomb has a ton of incentives tied to number of games started as well as IP numbers that are well into the range of a full time starter. I have got to imagine that he signed his deal with the understanding that he’d, at the very least, be considered strongly for a role in the rotation out of spring. While I don’t think that guarantees him anything, I do think it gives me some hesitation toward the idea that they’re going to go and sign another veteran, at least to a guaranteed mlb deal.

  40. Change and success are two different things. Getz and Co. haven't had enough runway to see if those changes will pay off yet, and I'm not saying it's going to be an automatic failure or nothing Getz does can be good. But you, and I, don't know how much has been "poured" into player development. There have been a handful of PR stories about the importance of player development to this regime, and that's a good thing. But how much was spent? Are those investments just getting them on par with other teams that have been doing it for the last 10+ years? It's good to be hopeful as a fan. Not trying to deny anyone that. But it's been 20 years since 2005 and they've won the AL Central twice since then. And Jerry has been involved every step of the way. And he still is. So color me skeptical. Don't feel like it's a terribly difficult stance to understand.

  41. ...And? It was seemingly the first time they tore things down with intent behind it and wanted to build something with sustained success. We applauded them for that, and a lot of us (myself included) thought the core looked incredibly promising. What happened? Nearly everyone on that list didn't reach their expected potential, to varying degrees. Passan listed out 12 names in his tweet, and anytime you're talking about 12 young players, you know the hit rate isn't going to be above 75%, at best. That's just how the game works. The problem was those 12 names listed were basically the entire roster. There was no fallback, no reinforcements being developed in the farm to supplement the roster, no pipeline. Why did those things happen? Lack of resources in player development and Front Office employees being given jobs they had no business being in. I have yet to given a reason to believe either of those things have significantly changed under this new regime. And until I do...I'll remain a skeptic.

  42. This is 100% accurate. Wild we needed to get to literally the lowest expected payroll before we could spend a whole 10 million dollars on one player.

  43. Really good Elijah Evans interview with new W-S hitting coach Adam Sinkoe just dropped. Sinkoe is super impressed with Jaden Fauske. He's another guy who could be a Top 100 guy if he breaks out in Kanny. Sinkoe also has nice things to say about the work Wolkow has done in the offseason. Worth a listen.
