I kinda hope the Sox use his prospect ranking against him because I immediately went "who?"3 points

The SP is going to be pretty damn bad. Maybe we can win some games 7-5 on the way to 66 wins.3 points

At a glance... Fedde's stuff didn't change that much last year. Velo about the same, movement pretty similar on everything if not a little bit better. Strikeouts way down, walks way up. A command issue? Maybe. I also notice that his pitch mix changed, especially to lefties. With the Sox, he was leading with cutters against lefties and changeups as the main secondary off of that. Sinker used for a different look or to grab strikes. After he left, he dialed back the cutter use, increased sinker use, and more puzzlingly started using his sweeper a lot against lefties. That's not something you see very often especially when a guy has a decent changeup already. In 2024, he allowed a .694 OPS to lefties. In 2025, he allowed a .922 OPS against lefties. Overall he didn't fare much worse against righties year over year although he did still see a drop in his strikeouts against them, suggesting there's more than just platoon splits at play. So maybe the Sox think they can get him back to a cutter-changeup focus against lefties and get him back to innings-eater status.3 points

Yeah, he us done by the end of June at the latest. Either he is pitching well and they trade him when the TJ crew is back. Or he is pitching poorly and they release him.2 points

Will be interesting to see the price here. My guess is it will be for about $1.5M with some incentives. Anything over $2.5M would be insane to me.2 points

Meh...Certainly not exciting, but if it's cheap (it will be), I don't mind it at all. Guy was quite good for the Sox. May as well try again.2 points

Fedde started off okay with the Cards, hit a wall, and didn't get back on track until Milwaukee put him in the bullpen. I suppose a major league deal keeps him out of Asia. I would have rather had him on a minor league deal. Oh well, fix him, then trade for another Vargas.2 points

I don't have a problem with this. Might as well see what happens with him in Spring Training. You really have to wonder what the asking price is for that long list of pitchers yet to sign.2 points

It seriously wouldn't surprise me to see a K-pop or J-pop halftime show in the next few years. The NFL is about expanding their audience. I'd go for this:2 points

That would be possible. It sounded to me like the claim was they pushed him into getting them.1 point

The thing Bruce is quoting Getz on is in the context of Getz being asked whether they're looking at playing Teel in the outfield or Quero perhaps some other place and he was poo-pooing those ideas specifically. I don't think it's meant as a statement about whether they might get some DH reps (although it won't shock me if they ultimately decide not to use the DH slot to give them ABs).1 point

Even if it did impact him negatively, its not negligence. Sometimes people have negative reactions and there is no way to predict it.1 point

I only listened to the last third, which was Jim and James' takes on where the Sox farm system is, now. They both put it middle third, but say the Sox have finally gotten to the point where they can see how far behind they are because of the failure of International. They won't catch up from the draft and Rule 5 guys. They need to be pumping Latino and Asian dudes through to have a stream of bullpen arms and utility guys which they just don't have now.1 point

FWIW, Giolito's underlying metrics had some flashing warning signs. FIP about a run higher than ERA and xERA about a run higher than the FIP. He didn't lose velo or anything but he wasn't striking out and generally things weren't trending better as the season went on.1 point

I don't hate it. Depends on the dollar amount I guess. I can't imagine it's much. I think it's implied it's a MLB deal.1 point

Going to be a fun camp. Let’s just hope for better injury luck than last year.1 point

Fedde better come out of the gate running or he will lose that rotation slot fairly quickly. Just a fuckton of young arms who will be pushing for starts soon enough.1 point

Which makes the case they gave him what he wanted last time, and he screwed up. Why at 90 years old would anyone think he can now get it right? Maybe Indiana will want them.1 point

Don't particularly care for this, but can't say I'm surprised. The other starters available out there are clearly out of the Sox price range. I'd be surprised if he makes to the halfway point of the season.1 point

And outside of a World Series title, it takes YEARS for fans to start showing up again. This last time with back to back playoff appearances, they really didn't. When things are bad, no one shows up. This location doesn't really add anything to the attendance or viewing of this franchise. Look at what Cubs attendance looks like in down years. THAT is a homefield advantage when people to go just see the stadium, no matter what the team looks like. Is this stadium easy for me to get to? Yes. Will it be easier to get to than one at the 78, also yes, but only if I drive. But the proof is in the historic numbers. People don't go to see the White Sox because of the park. They go to see them win. That's it. If there was a park factor, attendance wouldn't fall off to the bottom of MLB when they are bad.1 point

Yes - I am as sentimental as they come, I've been going to games in Bridgeport for decades, and it would pain me a bit to see the site of so many memories lay vacant. I would have loved if the ownership had more vision and created 35th/Shields as an entertainment destination; maybe that's still in the cards, and if it is I'd be open to listening. But I think it's a huge stretch to suggest the current location or ballpark are drawing fans on their own. The attendance figures reinforce that story. A new ballpark that's still South of the Loop but more connected to downtown and other entertainment options could be a huge boon to the team and would get even this nostalgic curmudgeon excited.1 point

I mean the only regret is that that Bears don't have the Patriots defense, because if Drake had the Bears defense, he would have been golfing a month ago.1 point

Nothing to do with the draft. Just happy tomorrow football is over. NFL sucks the life out of everything when it's going on. For me, baseball season begins the day after the Superbowl.1 point

The park lacks character and charm, both inside and in the surrounding area. It’s just unremarkable. It’s a perfectly functional and passable place to watch a game, but that’s waaaay too low of a bar for a MLB stadium these days. And because it’s so void of personality and buzz, it has to rely almost entirely on the game itself and/or the significance of it. What it’s lacking matters less when there’s a built-in excitement, like on Opening Day (as you mentioned) or if the team is a contender. But a good stadium doesn’t have to rely on those rare types of occasions to generate excitement.1 point
