  1. Reminds me of when we lost Eloy for 6 months trying to rob a homer in the WBC final for the Dominican Republic... oh wait that was in ST. What about every other ST injury that happens all the time??? I'm bummed about this too but what are we doing here? Players get injured in any setting. We just had a prospect get drilled in the head in a backfield game today. Should we stop the minor league backfield games????
  2. It’s like a hammy pull. No one is thinking he needs his leg amputated. It’s a sport in which injuries happen, just like in ST. It sucks but it is what it is.
  3. But how is it “totally meaningless?” It’s not the MLB, it’s a different baseball entity. Just because you’ve decided YOU only care about the MLB season doesn’t mean the rest of the baseball world needs to. The overwhelming majority of all professional players don’t ever get to the World Series, meaning that this is likely the most significant championship they’ll ever get to play for. There are thousands of fans around the world, some from countries whose cultures hold baseball in higher esteem than the United States does, who care much more about this tournament than anything that happens in the MLB. I couldn’t possibly care less about the NFL, and every year I feel the media shift away from baseball pennant races toward NFL camp coverage, and I hate it. That doesn’t make that coverage “totally meaningless.” It’s just not for me.
  4. And this is why you wait to do anything with Lee when he has zero trade value.
  5. It’s some of the most compelling baseball happening anywhere in the world, behind only mlb playoffs and certain pennant chases. If you’re a baseball fan, or even just a sports fan, the value is self-evident. The very game he got hurt in was awesome. If you’re a White Sox fan over a baseball fan, I’d see why you feel that way. But it shouldn’t be difficult to imagine the other side.
  6. Teel was still in uniform walking around high fiving teammates after the game, so unlikely to be too serious
  7. Could've been worse. And luckily for the White Sox catcher is the one strength you have to help offset it. Quero is our guy for the first month of the season back there at least.
  8. Come on man lol, you know what the metaphor meant. I am fully aware they aren’t my kids
  9. Can get injured jumping off the back of a pickup truck.
  10. If we get to dictate other people's reactions, I dictate that you don't get to be angry about people making a joke.
  11. In fairness it’s the biggest game Teel will play in all year (well until tomorrow - if he is able to go).
  12. Hays HR scores Meidroth (BB) and Colson (1B), Sox 3-0
  13. Angels radio taking about how Fedde was in Korea last year...must have read an article from his first stint here without checking the date. Easy 1-2-3 for Kay, who continues to have more velo than I expected.
  14. knock on wood we are quite healthy as a group, if this is the worst spring training setback, we good.
  15. He’s not? I thought you named him after you.
  16. What do you mean they didn’t get one guy? They absolutely got Crosby, and if they had buyers remorse and cancelled the deal because they didn’t want to give up picks, that sucks because they went ahead and changed the entire landscape of free agency from that point forward, and now they are forcing the raiders to have to go back and figure this out after they committed a bunch of money post-trade. Legal, sure whatever it’s in the rules. But this sucks and they are slime balls for sure IF the reason is they realized that keeping the picks is better and came up with a physical for the Out
  17. I saw Herbie last fall. 85 years old, former crack addict, and he hops around the stage like 25 year old.
  18. Saw him in Glendale on Monday. He was out on the field during BP/Defense, but not a participant and had no gear with him. He stopped to sign some autographs and someone asked if he was healthy and he replied "getting there".
  19. I confess I'm not fond of the WBC just for the reason of injury potential as well as guys having to play hard (in theory) for something totally meaningless but over and above that what bothers me are these rosters. You've got guys who weren't born in a particular country playing for it because their grandmother on their step-mothers side had a distant cousin who lived in said country for a year or two. (I know that doesn't make sense but just trying to make a point). If you are going to have this exhibition series at least make the rule to play for a nation you have to be born there and be a citizen of it. Stop stretching things to try to field a roster. If you don't have enough legit players from your country you don't play, aren't invited.
  20. Yep. My son played an entire first half of football with a knee injury. He wasn’t pulled until the team’s trainer checked him out at half time. They all still thought it was just a grade 1 or 2 knee sprain. The trainer told him to ice it, see if it gets better after a few days, and then have a doctor check it out if it doesn’t. He walked around on it for a week until a doctor checked him out and told him he had a full tear of his ACL and damaged meniscus and needed knee surgery.
  21. This is a simplistic way of looking at it. They did not break any rule, you are correct. Ethically, we're having a different conversation. And decisions have consequences. Teams will be more hesitant to trade with the Ravens. Players may be more hesitant to agree to terms with the Ravens. It also has created much more of a mess for teams than people realize. We know by reporting that multiple teams were in on Crosby. He was one of the first dominos to fall, trade was agreed to and the multiple teams that were involved in the talks pivoted to signing and agreeing to terms with other players to fill their roster. With the salary Crosby has, there has to be some planning involved in getting his contract to work with the rest of the roster. For a trade of this magnitude, and with the current injury state Crosby is in, medicals should have been reviewed before a deal was formally announced.
  22. He's Italian he'll probably be back week two.
  23. Antonacci looked very good in the field and the bases too. Meidroth is going to have to perform or Antonacci takes his place once the Sox get the extra year of service time.
  24. Nope I was rooting for team Italy the whole time. Aint no White Sox on team USA !
  25. Actually it was funny, and more than likely true.
  26. Or Opening Day...but I'd go with WBC from a historical stand point. At least since Japan/USA finale. Teel also learned a ton from Cervelli and Posada about preparing as a catcher. That wouldn't have happened. Or bonding with Antonacci and mlb players.
  27. Promoting baseball across world and Italy/Europe, specifically. But that's why Skubal bailed and NFL went to flag and skills competition.
  28. I'm all aboard the Antonacci train.
  29. Is there anyone who has looked sadder to be a Cleveland Brown?
  30. Really sucks but the silver lining is it gives a little time to see if Lee is tradable.
  31. Pereira 1st hit is a single .Steals 2nd.
  32. Hays 3 run HR ! Meidroth walk, Colson single. 99EV 387 ft.
  33. He hurt himself running the bases. A DH has to run the bases.
  34. Sox losing their best player to injury? Water is wet
  35. More of an indictment of bWAR than anything else IMO. Not properly accounting for how singularly bad on defense Benny has been relative to e.g. fWAR. Spread is 0.2 vs. 1.4 there. And for the record 2025 Lenyn was a vastly superior defender than 2025 Benintendi. There's a difference between below average and Adam Dunn
  36. Annoying but could be worse. Still 2 weeks until Opening Day so hopefully he only misses 15-20 regular season games.
  37. I don't think Teel is able to go less than 100% effort tbh
  38. Especially since the reports are that they didn't seem to try to act in good faith. They waited to request records and they sure didn't try to negotiate a fix. It's also not their first time pulling a stunt like this. It might be "legal", but it sure seems to be unethical or immoral at best. It's definitely not going to do much for their standing or trust going forward with their peers who all seem to think this is BS.
  39. Do you mean Brooks Robinson?
  40. Looks like USA advances if Italy wins or Mexico wins and scores 5 or more runs. Late scoring by USA helped.
  41. Weird how they are doing these moves in such small waves.
  42. Haven't we all agreed to that. JR only approves spending when they look like they are close to competing. Thats not happening yet. Plus with the lockout looming, he isnt spending this year.
