If you think he can be a mid rotation guy, you don’t trade him for two months of an ok rental catcher. If his ceiling is just a back of the rotation type, then the calculus changes. To me, it just comes down to his newfound velocity and how that changes things for him.

Look man, it feels like RF and 2B have been voids since Dye and Iguchi, so I'll take the dreams provided by Braden and Meidroth right now.

I like Adams a lot but he is exactly the type of player you trade at the deadline: a 25 year old mid-rotation to backend starter who has to be protected on the 40 at the end of the year. With the roster crunch the Sox are facing, they’ll lose a few of these guys for nothing fairly soon anyway.

As we know, they never got back. Rentals will come cheaper than players with control. They should be able to acquire help without giving up high-end capital. I've said the last few months, I don't want them going after rentals, they're a year "early" and winning the division/playoff success is just house money. I've changed my perspective on that after watching more of the season play out. The AL is BAD. The only team that actually scares me is a healthy Yankees team, and I don't know if we'll even see a healthy Yankees team in 2026. There is a VERY real world where the Sox earn a first round bye in the playoffs. If that happens, the path to the World Series isn't crazy at all. I'm not advocating for Getz to push all his chips in the middle of the table, pillage the farm system in order to get new bodies on the team for 3 months. But standing pat, being overly conservative isn't the play either. Sometimes the best pitch to hit is the first one. You can wait, but that pitch may never come.

thats a huge overpay. I don't see the Sox trading sandlin or any top 10 prospects for a mediocre rental who's being paid like an ace I would hope the Sox would just say they'll pick up the rest of his salary and offer them one or two in the 15-20 range

To me it's asset management over not just this season but the next few. Who are you getting that's going to give you say, 30% better production than what we have at the 4th or 5th starter spot not just this year but the next couple as well? Adams could be that guy himself, maybe not 30% better, but say 20%. The Dane Dunning trade come to mind, that one didn't really come back to bite us as he got hurt again, but it also wasn't a good trade by process or by results was just mediocre.

Stephenson is a good idea, but I'd expect more of a lotto ticket trade for him. Adams seems like a LOT for 2 months of a 0.3 fWAR catcher.

Fixing Carlson’s swing is a massive question mark. Bonemer is going to be a stud hitter in the majors. Carlson may have a higher theoretical ceiling simply due to how good his defense, but the odds of him achieving it are significantly less than Caleb doing so. I also don’t think “infield defense” is a massive need when you have Roch at SS, Colson at 3B, Chase at 2B, & Vargas at 1B. That’s a damn good defensive infield.

. Closer is not a weak point. Diminishing marginal returns . Closers play in c. half the games 1 inning per night. How did the Mason Miller trade work out of the Padres. He has been great and they still want to trade him because his greatness hasn't translated into wins. Now if we can start him, that's different. No reason to trade Bonemer or Carlson. There are no ace starters on the market. And even those like Detmers don't have that much control - 2 more years. You can't trade those guys for a Detmers. Get the 36 year old rental from the Mets. Find the long term starting pitcher in the offseason when the prices are reasonable.

I think they will find a way to also grab part of the BNSF section to increase the site dimensions.

The truth is that Hahn drafted Crochet and Getz is reaping the benefits of the team being so bad and cheap that they would have never extended him anyways so Getz got to trade him for a haul.

As of today the assembled Crochet return would also beat Crochet in a fight.

I'll take this seriously when it gets down to 20 and the Sox are still in 1st place and got a starting pitcher at the deadline who actually contributes, Mune gets back to hitting home runs and the resurgent Jordan Hicks last 19 innings over the last 28 days lasts into the post season. That WHIP is incredibly miniscule. Too good to be true tiny !

River Ryan being No. 41 makes me laugh. He's going to be 28 in August, Juan Soto is younger than him and has 1169 hits at the major league level.

If the Sox are big game hunting and willing to part with such a package, they better be seeing what top end starting pitcher that could get with that sort of offer.

The Sox are a top 3 World Series contender in the AL. They have to add starting pitching to solidify it, but they almost certainly will do so. Getz does not need to be reckless, but he needs to be aggressive at this trade deadline. No excuse not to add to the roster in a meaningful way. The 2 seed in the AL will get a bye to the ALDS, have homefield advantage in the ALDS, and will be awaiting the winner of the AL West champion (Seattle/Texas) vs the #6 seed. The path to the ALCS for the Sox is wide open. Be aggressive and add!

I think we are in thread the needle mode. We need to add, yet any additions will create a roster crunch so hopefully there can be some subtractions as well. Hayes and Pereira will finish rehab and don't have options, while Perez can go to the minors, you still have one extra player. Lottery tickets are better than nothing. This sounds crazy with our ownership but if you aren't maxing out your MLB budget, (we are opening a DSL facility and I believe adding a second team) gaining international pool money (only gives you the right to spend more of your own money) might help stock a second team with someone of interest. I have a feeling that some of our increased attendance revenue was involved in the ability to acquire pick #34 and spend the roughly extra 3 million so not sure how much money we add in contracts. If we add a pitcher or two plus a catcher upgrade over Romo, who goes off the 24 man besides Romo? If they don't have options, get something/anything for them. All this while not destroying the clubhouse chemistry/magic of which there is no way to quantify. I guess Schultz because of his options, may be sent down. Mason Adams is looking close and Shane Smith/Thorpe maybe do something. McDougal and possibly Hagen Smith have been mentioned as bullpen additions. You can squint and even see Iriarte, Pallette, Gonzalez as possibilities which all further complicate the roster. Whatever happens most will scream we paid too much. I will look at Jared Kelley (3 million) and Wes Kath (1.8 million) and remember there is a reason they are called prospects not sure things.

Call me crazy, but I think you can get by with below average catching.

You don’t trade for your top prospects for Mason Miller, the best closer in baseball, to convert him into a SP project in years where you plan on contending. None of it makes sense imo

Your first place Chicago White Sox win back to back road series! Once again, they never stay down for long. 7-2 since Mune returned without him really getting going yet. 3 wins and 1 split in their last 4 road series. Aside from yesterday, the pitching has been fantastic lately. 3 or fewer runs allowed in 8 of their last 10 games. If they want to keep up this pattern of win by a lot struggle to score win by a little for the rest of the season, I think we'll be happy with the end result. Cleveland loss went final earlier, so back to a game up. Add at least two more days to the count:
