  1. Literally, no one will say we should have done that.
  2. Playing any team in the playoffs is a problem I'm willing to deal with this year.
  3. A kick in the ankle is much better than a kick in the balls. Thank you.
  4. People watch Romo bat .100 with no power or walks for months and suddenly you're not happy with a guy who is a little below average at the plate
  5. Even if I don’t like the move, I can usually understand the thinking behind it. It usually at least makes some sense. I just don’t see it here. I’m confused more than anything.
  6. This “teams don’t get credit when players work hard and player development is fake” is the worst bit on a site that includes Greg. Getz if anything deserves credit for going after players that show they’ll work hard and not make (very good) music videos
  7. Chris Getz is bad at this. People mistaken the ability to hire smart people for draft purposes with being good as the sox GM right now. This guy has gotten taken to the woodshed in almost every deal he's made, and the ones that weren't bad ended up successful because the player put in a s%*# ton of work 2 years after the deal (vargas). Every new move solidifies this for me. He doesn't know how to value MLB talent or assets. Just my opinion of course.
  8. As a package, the Sox did what they had to do. They upgraded the 25, and didn't give up any of the vital pieces going forward. I will definitely quibble with the amount of returns, but they did improve for 26.
  9. Is it bad that I like the Bart trade and is one of my favorites? Maybe it's because I hate Romo so much
  10. It's much more fun when your favorite team is buying and not selling. Of course it would even be more fun if your team wasn't owned by Jerry Reinsdorf.
  11. I certainly remember when the White Sox were the stupid franchise who couldn't rebuild right like the Orioles who were filled with sweet-swinging blonde boys en route to a World Series. Oops! Turns out everybody is stupid
  12. Yeah I’ll take spending Jerry’s $ on Castillo over giving up Bonemer for Soriano/Detmer
  13. C. I would vote F but I’ll give them credit for not moving any of our higher rated prospects trying to chase this season.
  14. well here is the good news: We still have Billy Carlson coming off a glowing write-up from Law, Bonemer still smashing the ball in AA, Wolkow has more time to put it together, Fauske in kanny, adding Roch Cholowsky in WS+, landon thome and Cole Prosek. And I didn't even mention Tim Elko
  15. And we will still win the division and better yet, the Guardians will be out a few prospects in the following year. We'll look back at this as a win ;)
  16. Sox will go as far as their young core will take them and that's how it was always going to be. So far, my feeling is we aren't going to look back and say the main problem was the Sox not doing enough today.
  17. This is found money. Anyone within a sniff of replacement level makes the team a lot better. They did it.
  18. We gave up Duncan fucking Davitt who most people here didn't even know he existed prior to the callup. Literally nothing and improved the catching position.. I get you wanna b**** to b**** but at least make it make sense.
  19. Ok that’s fine, he also has the crochet deal which is good value. He makes a lot of deals and stuff is gonna bite at our margins. If I had a text thread with Getz though I’d tell him to target good players and stop targeting bad ones.
  20. You know what's stupid? I've been posting on this board for three years and it's the same group of people who are always wrong, who are also the whiniest and who are also internet bullies. At a certain point, you don't even need to watch baseball to have opinions on it, just say the opposite of whatever the groupthink on this board says and you'll probably be correct.
  21. Go bury your head in the sand and praise every trade because “it’s something”
  22. He'll be collecting Social Security before he becomes a free agent.
  23. C. Every trade seemed like an overpay for dudes they have to work on to build the value they traded for. But they did what they said they would do in the way they promised. Each of the 4 trades makes them better. I hate to lose Adams, Boston Smith and Gabe Davis, but the mere fact the Sox traded them shakes me out of my stan-hood. I don't like losing Pereira.
  24. While I love the surprise of how well this team is playing, this isn't a give up prospects kind of season. After decades of watching horrible overpaying and head scratching trades, this seemed more restrained, and forward looking. I appreciate the willingness to take on a bad contract over giving away prospects. They showed a willingness to really dive in and be active. I think it's a positive sign of the direction the franchise is moving. I don't believe there was a realistic blockbuster trade, and again, I wouldn't give up 2028 for 2026. Process - A Immediate Impact - B Future upside - A if Castillo rebounds into a solid #2
  25. Pereira and Doyle both have the same 13.3% walk rate vs. LHP in the majors this season (small samples for both). EP K's a lot more (40% vs. 27%) while having a lower barrel% and hard hit% but better surface numbers. His .462 BABIP, a 90 point gap between his actual and expected wOBA, and a 30%+ HR/FB rate vs lefties suggests there's room for some regression in those numbers. In a weird coincidence, both guys have 43 ABs overall in AAA this year so at least their small sample sizes are easily comparable: Doyle: 17-43 with 5 2B, 2 HR, 8 BB and 19K Pereira: 10-43 with 1 2B, 4 HR, 6 BB, 15K Don't know enough about Doyle to speculate on if he made some changes while rehabbing at AAA, but he was super productive in his most recent stint there to end July: 10 for 21 with 3 2B, 1 HR, 2 BB, 4K. (Pereira was 4-25 with 1 2B, 1 HR, 2 BB, 10 K in his rehab stint around the same time). Pereira obviously took a bit to get going until his great day yesterday (2-11 since returning with 1 2B/HR, 0 BB, 7K) Doyle hasn't been back up as long but is 2 for 6 with a 2B, BB, and 2 K in two games. If they buy into the flashes with the bat and really believe in Doyle as a plus defender, it could work out. One assumes that must be the case given the cost. Hope they're right (though I also hope EP sneaks through waivers anyway). Wish the kid had options, this would bug me less if it was like a Junior Perez DFA instead.
  26. felt like quero has been doing better, must be about defense
  27. This feels eerily similar to Christmas when I was 9 and all I wanted was a PS1, only to be gifted a Sega Genesis.
  28. We're still better than both of those teams. I think by alot.
  29. You have to be realistic here. Your not getting a C a lot better than this without giving up quite a bit. They gave up nothing for him. They still have all their top prospects which is what we all wanted and they are at least somewhat better today at Catcher than yesterday.
  30. Bart is fine. Never made sense to trade for a starter (imo) given how high the org is on Teel. Bart a nice back up catcher.
  31. I dont know that they are much better then Friday, but I also think this is a pretty good team as is. The glaring hole for me was a starting pitcher and some sort of catcher with a pulse. I think they upgraded both positions. I will be annoyed if Quero is the one going down because I think he's shown some signs of life at the plate where as Romo does absolutely nothing well in my eyes.
  32. His wRC+ is like 40-50 points higher than both of our catchers and we gave up a guy we DFA'd anyway. Not sure how it's supposedly a bad move
  33. Oh I hate this. Even if I understood why they wanted Doyle (I don't), how the heck is this the cost?
  34. I wonder if we can include him in a package for a starter with a fastball
  35. We’re adding a catcher, Bob you f***.
  36. Getz has performed a miracle this season. I was as big of a hater as possible but I ain't going to get lit up over minor trades. So far we've traded Mason Adams and Boston Smith. Not exactly guys likely to become big league regulars, let alone stars, and gotten some pieces that help us a bit. People didn't want to trade top 5 org assets, well this is what that looks like.
  37. Vielma for me. But it's so hard to assess DSL guys.
  38. I follow the Mets as they are my local NYC team. This is a really good trade. And it means we can start using Taylor as our closer. We've flipped Dominguez and replaced him with someone we can actually use in high leverage situations.
  39. With Merkin killing all hope saying he’s confirmed no additional deals (in past years)
  40. John is actually growing on me. Did not like his style at all at first and he still has his cringe moments. However I think he has improved. That southside stand up needs to stop though, it ruins the moment. I thought he was done with it then he said it recently. While I’m starting to like the guy, I think I’d be fine if they went another direction, with someone who is proven to be good at announcing and someone that works well with Steve. I actually like Steve a lot.
  41. Hey John, often less is more. Let it breathe a bit. Most Sox fans are hardcore consumers of Sox games ....we don't need big picture musings about the team repeated in every single broadcast. Try concentrating on the action on the field.....it's an exciting team with lots of dramatic moments that should be the primary focus of the telecast. Remind your producers that fans tune in to see every bit of the action on the field..and have try not be on some side- bit while missing kay throwing a 3rd strike,I think? I have to mute it at some point sometimes...never did that with past play by play guys
