  1. Newcomb + Burke vs. Williams on the mound. The Sox enter the series just a 1/2 game up on the Guardians. Winning at least one game is absolutely essential. If we go 1-2, we’ll be tied in the loss column, but will have secured the season tie-breaker. While the Guardians would technically be up 1/2 a game on us, we’d effectively be up 1/2 game like we are today due to the tie breaker. At minimum, we can’t leave Cleveland without at least securing one W. If we can somehow leave the series with at least one W, we do have an easier schedule to end the season. Both teams play three games against KC on the road. Both teams play bottom three teams at home with us getting the Rockies and the Guardians getting the A’s. The big difference is we have four games against the Tigers at home while the Guardians have three in Boston. Obviously you still have to play the games and Sox aren’t playing well right now, but every little edge matters at this point. Finally, we really need to come out focused tonight. This is the game we have the best shot of winning IMO. Burke has had two stinkers in his three starts and appears to be wearing down, but remains our most talented SP and the guy I’d put out there in a win or die moment. Williams is obviously very good, but the Sox face two lefties who have dominated us this season the next two games. It really feels like if you don’t win tonight, then you’ll be facing an uphill battle the rest of the series. Venable must do everything in his power to win the game tonight. Let’s fucking go!
  2. How about you fucking win a ball game today?
  3. Biggest win of the year and now we have the tiebreaker. Sox up 1.5 games. Thank you Newcomb, Burke, Teel, Vargas, Clutch Benny and Hagen. Huge shot in the arm! Also it's a big deal that we didn't have to use Taylor, Hudson or Hicks.
  4. Biggest win of the season. Do that two more times.
  5. Don’t worry Gavin, neither of those runners will score
  6. Teel is such an upgrade behind the plate
  7. Great inning! Peters with the AB of the year was the key and simply amazing.
  8. It absolutely baffles me how Will never trusts Sam against lefties but always trusts Braden when his splits are way worse.
  9. We need to take 2 games. The rubber meets the road now. No excuses. We did this to ourselves and we'll have to grit our teeth and climb out of this mess somehow. They need to leave CLE up 1.5 games. They aren't as good as home. The bats need to wake the f*** up. The Big 3 need a huge series.
  10. No news yet but word is that @WBWSF may be looking to interview, as Jerry already has his resume.
  11. You can't sweep unless you win the first.
  12. The division lead is 1.5. It is 2 in the loss column. With the tiebreaker on our side, we have to lose 3 more times than the Guardians for us to lose the division.
  13. thank god for Tristan Peters psychologically the entire completion of the game changed there
  14. Biggest win of the season. Gotta take at least 1 of these next 2.
  15. I honestly don’t understand why it’s a big deal, he garbled the word and clearly didn’t mean what he said. It didn’t even make sense in what he was saying
  16. That would be retired by the organization
  17. Castillo won’t get meaningful innings rest of the way
  18. Can we get 1 more run for the Pope please?
  19. Sit the Montgomerys in these next 2 games against lefties.
  20. Hagen might be our best bullpen guy right now
  21. Acuna can do no worse, definitely better with the glove.
  22. I’d bench Colson and let Acuna get his first playing in forever. Send a message!
  23. I’m disappointed in you, I wanted a “it should have been 7-0” post
  24. From 1B he should have been basically standing on 2B waiting to see the result and I don't think he would have even made it that far before it was obvious what would happen
  25. Peters could be a Sox legend at this rate. Stupid send but oh well.
  26. letting Braden hit there should get you fucking fired
  27. Grichuk is the only reason we're not on a 6 game losing streak.
  28. ever notice how this org never brings young players back once they go through something like this? they're just bad forever until they get traded to the Brewers
  29. Given the concerns about abuse, I must note the word "opine" has been suffering serious abuse in this thread while its homophone "pine" suffers from neglect. The thought about the Whiteness of the Sox draft picks crossed my mind but I think it will be hard to look at the Sox draftees and get too terribly much out of it. About 80% of all players drafted in the top 5 rounds (by all teams) in recent years are non-Hispanic Whites, per this study: https://sabr.org/journal/article/examining-dusty-bakers-hope-is-help-on-the-way/ Sox took an obviously Hispanic player in the first round just a few years ago in the form of Jacob Gonzalez. Less obvious (from the name) is Billy Carlson, whose mother is Mexican. I believe Roch Cholowsky's mother is Indian-American. So IDK, it's possible he has some particular biases that affected his player evaluation, but in today's MLB you're going to see a lot of White guys among any team's draftees. It's fair to raise the question given the other things he's accused of. But there are other people involved in the draft decisions too.
  30. Nothing is cake the way they are playing. They are playing like one of the worst teams in the league
  31. I had a feeling you’d be starting the game thread today, and I was hoping for it. Well done. Let’s fúcking go.
  32. Find a way to get a win tonight, please!
  33. Sam led of the 6th with a Triple yesterday, then Teel walked, and we had Vargas up. That is the guy you want but he could not get the job done and of course Mune did nothing. I think it's time to start bunting moving guys, stealing bases, squeeze plays.........whatever is needed because the typical approach of waiting for SLUG is not happening, especially in moving runners and with guys on base.
  34. Lockeroom talk will never go away. Sunday mornings, my wife and ai go for a real long walk. Yesterday we were up by Wrigley before there gane. The vendors on the street were selling SMFDB -PCA shirts. People were buying them all proud. I had to tell my wife what the letters stood for. She now hates the Cubs.
  35. There are absolutely ways this CAN fall apart, but judging by the agencies and cooperation between the directly affected parties, the odds are pretty good that this happens. What form will it take by the time we get there is probably the biggest question, but with Ishbia cooperating with Amtrak and the like, I am not sure what could stop it, except maybe a Worldcom/Enron type financial meltdown.
  36. Here’s the way I see it: Yes, it’s unfortunate and embarrassing for the organization that there’s a history of appalling behavior among staff. Yes, Shirley’s resignation does not magically undo what those affected experienced. Yes, sadly, I do think this kind of thing continues to go on across the league, whether unreported or without repercussions. BUT at least Shirley is no longer one of them. It’s one less shitty scumbag that people have to be subjected to.
  37. Maybe this is frowned upon today? Dude this is one of the worst posts I have ever seen you throw out. Honestly what the f*** is this thread
