  1. I remember in July or August of 2005, the Angel's coming to Chicago and dominating. The Sox should have packed it in right then. Why are people so panicked? The team is missing 4 regulars. 3 will come back soon. A 2nd baseman will be added and a reliever. If they can stay healthy, I like their chances.

  2. Yeah, I'm not buying this. Great teams beat good ones. Great teams execute their pitches. Great teams get hits when their teams need them. Great teams make the plays when they need to be made. Missing the fucking plate with your foot is little leaguer shit. Bitching about the umps when the other team is royally kicking your ass is weak sauce. Wanna win? Make the fucking plays. Tag the plate. Don't fucking walk the yard. Get hits. Stop giving up homers every fucking game. Stop bitching at the umps. Stop letting good teams beat you. Then there won't be any "Murphy's Law," or whatever other excuse we can gin up.

  4. Truly one of the most predictable threads in Soxtalk history. The Brewers pitching staff has been the hottest in baseball, and the Sox we’re facing their Top 3. In addition, the Sox are missing 4(!!!) offensive starters from their lineup. They’re on the road, and the Sox bullpen has been a mess lately. I mean, what did you think this series was going to look like? Yes, the Sox will almost certainly add a few bullpen arms at the deadline. They need to. But aside from that, the season rests on the additions of Eloy, Robert and Grandal. I don’t think people truly understand what a full, healthy lineup will look like and how it changes the entire makeup of the team.

  5. What this series is telling us is that the Sox are only a playoff team because the rest of the ALC isn't trying and the Twins pitching staff collapsed. What I keep seeing is that the Sox are not playoff caliber in any aspect of the game. Their offense isn't good enough, their SP are bum slayers and their bullpen is terrible outside of Hendriks/Kopech and sometimes Crochet, who is very hit or miss. I don't think that Eloy/Robert/Grandal will save them either.

  6. Ray ray, Caulfield is a diehard Padres fan. I think he knows how their organization will use their players.

  7. You know Tony can just tell Hahn that they need a setup without potentially punting games right? These dudes aren’t 1st graders incapable of having a conversation.

  10. Goodwin made an out fairly recently. Double switching him out of the game so you can get the defensive improvement + have the possibility of Kopech for 2 innings was an obvious decision to make.

  12. Hahn isn't trading Vaughn for a relief pitcher...I doubt he would part with Sheets either. If that's what it takes to get a quality relief pitcher then the best move is to not make one.

  13. Meh. It's not who you play, it's when you play them. The Astros looked unbeatable against us, then couldn't beat the Tigers or O's. The Brewers have lost more games than us playing in a NL central that doesn't look much different than the AL central. The window is wide open. No reason to shorten it by selling the future prospects.

  14. The call was right, but unlike any other base, once the umpire signals safe at home, the play there is over. So if there was any doubt you missed the plate, thar safe call would end it. They should make the play unreviewable if the umpire signals safe. It is basically the same thing as calling a guy at 2nd our even though he was safe, having the play reviewed, admitting he was safe but since he was called out and came off the base to go back to the dugout, was tagged then so he is still out. It doesn't excuse Moncada from missing home, but it is a call that stops the action of the runner, and fielder as they made no attempt to tag him.

  15. Normally I don't think anyone would care if Hendriks comes in for 6 outs on occasion. It's everything that came before- leaving Goodwin in, no double switch, letting Kopech in to hit, having him come out for only 1 more hitter after.

  18. This is another thing that hasn't really changed since last year. It's a low IQ baseball team.

  19. I'll be surprised if they win more than one game in the playoffs. I'd feel differently if the majority of the pensmen weren't gascans. I could buy them being good when their 3 bats return if it was only the offense that was failing against good teams but the entire team is failing against playoff quality competition.

  20. What is your ratio of panic posts after series losses versus positive posts after series wins?

  21. This is so fucking comical. Every single time the White Sox lose a series this absurdly terrible hot takes come out on this forum. Yes the team with a 113 run differential despite missing 1/2 their starting position players for much of the year isn't actually good. Jack, you should consider watching another sport. For the 1000th time, a series in baseball tells us nothing. The sox just beat the astros, what did that series tell you jack? Get a fffing grip and learn how to enjoy a season without having absurd hot takes everytime they lose a series.

  39. Eloy's judgment? You mean a 24 year old player that wants to make every effort to bring back a a home run? OK< it was pre-season, but that is what competitive athletes do - they compete. It could be a game of pick-up basketball in the alley, it doesn't always prevent a guy from trying to make a play. If you want to mock him for that, well go ahead. Never forget, White Sox fans claimed Avi Garcia was a lifetime DH after he was injured diving for a ball. Now AviG is a pretty valuable member of an NL team with no DH. I think Avi has something like 17 HR ... before today's game. Unfortunately, the Brew crew are tougher and Rowdier than I thought.

  40. Baseball is different than the other sports. The season is so long that having your team just be good and win is more than enough for me. Yes, I want the World Series, but if it doesn't happen I'm okay with that. I golf 3-5 times a week, ride a Harley on days I'm not at the course after work, and I live on the Chain O Lakes. Boating is a huge part of my summers. But nothing is worse than your baseball team sucking. Summer is just better when the Sox are winning games. Win 90+ games the next 6-8 years and continuously make the post season and I'll be pretty stoked. If they get eliminated, I'll be upset and disappointed, but not for long. I'll be applauding the team for the great summer and looking forward to what they can add to get better.

  41. I know everyone is different but I don't understand this attitude. Results matter but doesn't mean you can't enjoy the process. When you travel to you ignore everything until you get to the destination?

  44. What's their run differential against the teams they've played that will be in the playoffs? Their run differential is inflated by the shitty ALC.
    2 points
  45. Jack i could not care less what your thoughts are on the quality of the team. Its entirely irrelevant because your entire life is consumed by negativity. The White Sox have the 2nd best run differential in the AL despite missing possibly 12 fWAR.
    2 points
  46. What's their run differential against teams over .500? I'd bet it's negative. They're 18-27 against teams over .500 and 2-11 on the road. They're not even competitive. It isn't just one series. They're beating up on shitty teams. So?

  47. Wow. That is the most pessimistic view you could take. Adding 3 all-star caliber bats won't help them.

  48. Yep. Key is coming back. Bullpen would be a greater concern in my opinion.

  49. What this series is telling us is it sure would be nice if the Sox could get anywhere near full strength

  50. The way it seems to me is that there were two steps to the review. 1. did he tag the plate the first time. No he did not. 2. did he come back and tag the plate after missing it? No he didn’t, but the umpire told him not to by signaling safe. So how can you assume what Moncada’s behavior would have been had the ump not signaled safe? You can’t. The default ruling for an ump at the plate should apparently be that you don’t signal safe unless you are 100% certain, because if you signal safe and he missed the plate, you will almost always trigger this response because the player is trained to get out of the way when safe is called so that they don’t interfere with an ongoing play.
