  1. So when was the last time someone got lynched for being Polish in the US? How about the last time passed a law to prevent Polish people from being allowed to do things like marry or get basic health care? How about the last time a law was passed to keep Polish people out of schools? When was the last time someone burned down or attacked a Polish bar? How does the Polish suicide rate look when compared to the rest of society? When was the last time a library was sued because a Polish person was about to read a story to kids? How many people are called pedophiles for simply being Polish? When was the last time a President tried to keep the Polish from serving in the military? I could keep going, but if you see being Polish as equal to being the LGBTQ+ community in the US in 2023, you are ignorant of the world around you... at best.

  2. I used to like him but man, he meant what he said. The mistake, from his perspective, was just saying it on air.

  3. “Screwed up and said something he shouldn’t have” LMAO lip he called an unidentified location the f** capital of the world. He didn’t slip up words, he said something with his full chest and didn’t expect the mic in his fucking hand to be recording. super disappointing take from you

  4. It’s not the fact that he said something stupid, it’s the fact that when you listen to what he said, it’s really really difficult to believe he didn’t mean it. This was not a case of stumbling over a word or improper context, he was quite articulate, he just didn’t think anyone was listening. It doesn’t matter what you think about second chances — it’s really hard for a fanbase to swallow that its broadcaster is a homophobe, whether he apologized for it or not.

  5. We already know they screwed up. If anything this is proof Getz wanted to do it sooner but was overruled. No. He has the best stuff in the entire organization and deserves a chance to maximize his talent.

  6. Comparing Jones to Rutherford is peak soxtalk comps lol. Just like that year where every infielder with a good glove but not amazing offense was basically Yolmer Sanchez so we didn't need to get them.

  7. He fell out of the top 100 in the prospect ranking I saw earlier today

  8. With the pitching that you mentioned I don't see why they can't contend. I'm expecting big years offensively from Robert Jr, Eloy, Vaughn, Benitendi and even Moncada. I'm hoping that Montgomery is the Opening Day shortstop. If everything clicks it should be an exciting year.

  11. This isn’t cancel culture. This is got caught on a hot mic saying reprehensible s%*# and fired for it culture. Again, nobody owes him a job, and if they want to hire him they can

  12. But he managed to stay professional and make the call on that Castellanos homerun right in the middle of his apology. 🤡

  14. I was told Joey Ortiz would be immediately be a top three defensive SS in the majors by someone over at the Hangout and he didn’t even crack the best defense prospect list (including honorable mentions)…🤔

  15. Hi Brooks, can we do an AMA with you on here?

  16. Just seeing all these names, this is a glorified AAA team besides Robert. It makes the 2023 Sox roster look like the 27 Yankees. It’s just so frustrating because so many of these guys are old and/or won’t have any trade value.

  17. As Balta pointed out in another thread, we hilariously have more starting depth than the competing window. Now, is it good depth? Eh. But...I'm gonna list everyone. * means they'll certainly have some sort of innings limit. Cease Fedde (I guess he's OD starter if Cease leaves) Kopech Touki Soroka Flexen (I honestly forgot him until I hit post, truly looking forward to him) Shuster (L) Scholtens Nastrini Martin* Crochet* (L) Burke* Mena Eder Bush The big irony here for Hahn is that he acquired all but Fedde, Soroka, Shuster and big Flexen

  19. I really don’t think it’s about forgiveness. It’s just not really tenable to expect a fanbase to accept that their pbp guy is a clear homophobe. Sure, he deserves to be able to make a living, but at this point he’s just not a realistic candidate to be the public face of a sports team like that. At the minimum, practically every homosexual member of the fanbase will be constantly aware that this dude doesn’t respect their existence, and that his continued employment is a tacit endorsement by the team that it’s okay to hold those views. More realistically, that extends to any fan that feels sympathetic to the cause on any significant level. There’s just not a case to be made that you should hire that guy for that job. I think we talk too much about “deserving” jobs in situations like this, when it really has nothing to do with it. He’s not being “cancelled” for his “slip,” he’s just no longer a job fit because of what the “slip” showed everyone about him.

  20. Love excusing someone for being a shitty person in the name of "cancel culture is bad."
    4 points
  21. s%*#, is Thom homeless now because the White Sox would prefer to hire a different PBP guy without all the baggage? No one is saying he should go to jail or be condemned to hell, but unfortunately when you’re a public figure who says something stupid & hate-filled for the the world to see, the repercussions are going to a bit higher and you may no longer be entitled to multi-million dollar paying broadcast roles. This isn’t cancel culture, it’s common sense.

  22. He can absolutely get a job, just not as a big league baseball team's broadcaster. There are 30 of those jobs available. They are the most prominent public representatives of the team. The White Sox just let a guy go because the owner didn't like how he chewed. There are far more than 30 qualified broadcasters in the world. He is not entitled to one just because that was what he did previously. You are totally allowed, as a public facing business, to evaluate a guy who has made this level of mistake and hold that against him when evaluating him. There are hundreds of professional people coming from broadcast schools with sports experience who do not have these kinds of public statements on their records. There are hundreds of former players who may have an interest at getting into broadcasting. Find one.

  23. Right? Cancel culture was the whole "DINGER" fiasco a few years ago with Marcus Stroman being knob. When a broadcaster draws too much negative press because they said a slur and it was clearly meant to be an insult, what team is going to want to keep them around? It's not like Glen Kupier, where he fucked up, gave an apology that didn't read like "my pocketbook!" and had the Negro League Museum back him up. Glen Kupier tried to make amends for what seemed like an honest mistake. Brenamen's was said with purpose and he made no attempt to make amends.

  24. And it would be inappropriate for a broadcaster to make one of those jokes as well. And totally appropriate to have him lose his job and no longer work in the industry if he chose to do so on air.

  26. FWIW, fangraphs in their update a few weeks ago has Jones as the Yankees top prospect (55 FV) and as someone else pointed out previously he’s probably a better fit for the Sox timeline than Dominguez. Fangraphs has Hampton at #5 (50 FV) and Lombard at #7 (45+ FV). That package plus a lotto feels about right. You’ve got two top 100 mlb prospects, one with massive upside, and another fringe top 100 guy.

  28. Good, I don’t think that will go well.

  29. If it were that simple don't you think Rosenthal would qualify it by saying something like "some league executives believe Chicago will get a massive haul, while others believe a more realistic expectation is X" so he doesn't have egg on his face if it turns out that going out on a limb was a bad idea?

  30. Don’t forget, we still have a bad manager.
    3 points
  31. This is 100% the right idea. He's already arb-eligible, so only 3 years of control remaining. The best you're going to get from him if you don't try this is a reliever for a couple years. If he hurts himself doing this - oh darn you lost the trade return for an oft-injured reliever in 2025? Not a big loss.

  32. I'll believe in when I see it. And I mean not as a 2-3 inning guy.

  33. As I said in the Cease rumor thread, I like a rotation of Cease, Fedde, Kopech, Crochet and Soroka. If Cease leaves, there's 5-6 guys to shuffle through for a 5th man. I actually haven't felt this settled about an off-season in a while. At least now, the dumpster dives make sense. They're happening in context. We'll have positive WAR SS and 2B. If they pick up a RF, a few guys regress to the mean, I can actually see them challenging for a .500 record.

  35. What outside pressure? You think there are people that are campaigning to make sure he isn’t hired or is it more likely that the entire league saw one of the highest profile announcers go off script in the worst possible way, get rightfully fired, and say “I want no part of that”? like come on man, the risk in pissing off a portion of your fanbase for hiring a bigot is not to be ignored and teams understand nowadays that they can’t just sweep that under the rug

  36. Cancel culture isn't fucking Marty Brennamen not being able to get another job after making a hateful comment on an open mic. Cancel Culture is a group of religious fanatics trying to cancel an entire group of people out of the United States, and barring that committing literal hate crimes against them. Your so-called "cancel culture" is a response TO the ACTUAL cancel culture of the United States. Your "right to beliefs" should not extend to the literal extermination of a group of American citizens. That's s%*# that happens in Iran and Russia, not the US... or at least it used to be so.

  37. If your point is that Yankees prospects bust a lot, sure they do, like many prospects. But Rutherford never had the pure power that Jones has, nor did he ever develop it as anticipated. Quite like our own Ryan Sweeney years ago.

  38. He isn’t owed a job. If I said what he said at my job, I would expect to be fired and not be brought back ever. Teams are free to hire whoever they want but Thom now brings a HR issue with him. He said it now he has to live with it.

  39. I'm not familiar enough with the players but any package that has one of the best position players and one of the best pitching prospects is acceptable.

  40. f*** this. So queer peoples should just get over the hated couched as ‘phobia’ from people like him? It’s not as if there aren’t political efforts to erase Trans peoples from existence or anything. Or roll back the rights of gay peoples everywhere. Rights as humans they always had but were stripped of by the bigoted ruling masses. He is deserving of a second chance in your opinion because you’re a straight white male and your privilege shields you from ever having to be on the receiving end of what he did? f*** That. Do better.

  41. Professional ‘screw up’ that revealed who he really is. A simple apology doesn’t exonerate him for what he said. There is no putting the Genie back in the bottle after that. As for second chances, he is free to making a living in any other industry he likes, but he shouldn’t be awarded the opportunity to spew hate over the airwaves ever again.

  46. What in the world are you smoking? Right now they're a 100+ loss team easily and you have them winning 81 games. Fedde blows. Kopech blows now. Crochet has never thrown more than 65 innings in a year and that was in college. Soroka blows. If the Sox trade cease, they contend for one of the worst rotations of the past decade easily.

  47. Jerry Reinsdorf, the McCaskeys, and Bill Wirtz were the owners of 80% of the teams in Chicago at one point. You could make a very good argument that any one of them would be on the Mount Rushmore of terrible owners in professional sports history. Then you can throw in past owners like Charles Comiskey. Don’t pretend Chicago fans don’t have it bad.
