I am also amused by the guys who keep claiming that for the Sox to contend we need major upgrade with our bullpen. So . . . your answer to upgrading our bullpen is to trade our guy who is 11 for 11 in saves for a guy who might or might not make the majors. Some on this board amaze me with their low regard for Abreu & Colome. A top run producer & a top tier closer are worth more than some scraps. The only reason to trade either at this time is for the overpayment received when a contender perceive them to be the missing piece. We can always wait until the offseason if nothing exciting is offered.

Colome needs to go. I've wanted Abreu gone for a couple years but I think he's more valuable to us since we won't get anything for him. HOU really could use him but I doubt we would get any real prospect for him.

Cease may have a lot of talent, but I don't know if he will dominate like many fans anticipate. Talent or not, he will still be a rookie. But if the organization thinks he's ready, they should not hesitate to call him up. That's a rebuild is about in the end. Better to call up a prospect than trade for one.

It seems crazy but it’s actually not that far fetched. Sox were ready to spend $31M on Machado this season. That money didn’t go towards any other signings after Machado signed with the Padres. Simply reallocate that same money to sign Keuchel and Kimbrel. A July/August promotion of Robert isn’t that far fetched either if they are in the race.

Or we could consider a three year offer to Keuchel & call up Cease.

Reading that a player went from Oakland, a place I really admire for their player dev as they seem to overperform prospect rankings quite often, to the astros and was blown away by how advanced it was is a real eye opener to me. I mentioned elsewhere, I just finished Astroball, I'll start The MVP Machine next week, it's hard being a fan of the white sox and just not seeing them in this conversation at all. They are trying to catch up to stuff that the these other top orgs started in 2012. Catching up is always easier than pioneering, but its hard when you haven't really added anyone to the org that knows this stuff. It's the same group.
