  4. Would you say that he was...LIGHTS OUT?!?!

  5. It really needs to be said, while the Giolito no hitter is incredible by itself, but to get 13 strikeouts and still only throw 101 pitches? That is insane. 30 swings and misses. It was the very definition of domination.

  6. Think of the silver lining - a lot of people have been stressed as hell due to this pandemic and Lucas Giolito just gave them some momentary happiness.

  7. I'm really happy for Giolito. It couldn't have happened to a better guy.

  8. Tough to say. We don't know how much he loves the city and team and how much importance that has on him and his family. It also takes two to tango. But seriously, If I'm the Sox, I extend him. You do a 60/40 split and have each catcher DH on their non catching days. You send EE to the moon. If Gio keeps putting up games like his last two and McCann is catching him, you just simply don't fuck that up.

  9. Test 3,2,1... I guess there’s worse things an announcer can say when they don’t realize they have a hot mic.

  10. I think Collins is undervalued by Sox fans. He put up excellent OBP numbers in the minors, has power, has shown the ability to catch (at least on a part time basis), and still has that draft pedigree (1st round, 10th overall). He's also never really had a legitimate opportunity with the Sox, so I don't think his spotty MLB numbers to this point should be held against him. I could see teams being very interested in acquiring him.

  11. Goins is a 32 year old pinch runner with 6 career stolen bases. You really don’t need to know more than that.

  12. Imagine being mad about this when Ryan Goins was playing third base in one of the two or three most important games of the year thus far.

  13. There's a lot of people saying it's not a great idea, but they are floating other bad ideas. Here's one for example: This guy would like to trade Kopech, Cease, Stiever and Thompson for Zac Gallen.

  18. Stone just said he's never seen a connection/bond/relationship like the McCann/Giolito one in all his years in baseball.

  19. For the record, defensive positioning saved that no hitter on the last out. It was perfect.

  21. Not a pitcher on this roster I could have wished it for more than Lucas Giolito.

  22. Heuer for 2 months of a struggling (to put it lightly) Ray would be terrifying. The most anyone should be trading for Ray is minor league depth and/or cash

  23. lol sounds like they told Stone he better do some ass covering.

  24. It is the next 17 games, not the next 12, that are against the dregs, except for 3 against Minnesota. Need to go 12-5. That would lock us up for a playoff spot of some kind.

  25. He literally got claimed by the first team that had a chance.

  26. I think he found his form and perfected it. I said it years ago - he is a total stiff. People talk about his stuff but he never showed anything but pure crap stuff at the major league level. People can say it was his command and yes that was bad but so was his stuff. If it weren’t for the fact he was an Uber high draft pick he would never get the run he had. Whatever he had in college hasn’t exsisted in years. If he is going to do anything, he needs to forget whatever adjustments Sox made and go back to his college form and rebuild what he used to do (even if it increases his injury risk) and see if he can find his old stuff. Without that he is a guy with an A+ attitude and D stuff and command.

  31. Don't care about the record over next 12 games. Really we are competing against almost nobody for a playoff spot. Toronto : probably your 8 seed. too bad pearson couldn't stay healthy - with ryu and roark, anderson etc they had a shot at being average enough to keep afloat with a young talented offense. Then they lost bichette too. But either way, they're probably the 8 seed. After that: Orioles - which i mean, they have some sticks, but they won't have the sustainable pitching to get through. Cobb, Means, Millone, Woj can all have flashes, but none are going to really keep you in the hunt - maybe with Toronto, but not much better. They'll play mostly .500 ball but have like a 5-6 game losing streak and finish 27 wins or so. Texas? They should have a better offense than they do, but they rank near last in almost everything offensively. No Kluber hurts. Minor losing some velocity hurts. Gibson hasn't pitched even league average. This team has the most talent of the fringe candidates however at 11-17 they'll need to battle to get to .500 in short time Angels - same. That offense should produce, but that pitching staff is woof. Teheran was a bust. Ohtani down. Bundy has been nice. But they'll need someone like Pena and Sandoval really to step up. And Canning to stay healthy. Either way their bullpen sucks. offense can maybe get them some wins but at 9-21? Good riddance ... they'll never go 21-9 to finish .500 playing the likes of houston, oakland, dodgers, dbacks, padres. Boston/KC/Detroit? - not happening. Maybe Detroit could have a case if Skubal and mize came out strong and Boyd bounced back... but at 11-16 they'll need to do that fast. That offense has some vets, but lets be honest... So at 17-12 plus these 12 games? even if its just 7-5 we're then 24-19 with 17 games left. Go 7-10 and we finish 31-29. Not sure which of the teams i Just listed are jumping us. So long winded saying of - i really don't care about the record that much - we're in the playoffs unless we shit the bed. So what I want to see? I want to see run PRODUCTION. not this hit home run shit. I'm not trying to be the old man yells at cloud here, but this reminds me of the twins last year or the cubs a few years back. the long ball is a good way to win and lose games, you don't want to rely on it. I'd like to see some more get em on, get em over, get em in. I think Madrigal helps there. i'd like to see a healthy yoan.. I'd like to see Eloy learn and grow in LF. I'd like to see RF figure itself out -- or raelly I'd like to see a trade by Monday. Mazara aint it. He wasn't going to be. He didn't cost anything, but he's not it. Engel has grown on me, but he's not it either. He's a nice 4 of and pinch runner and defensive sub. I'd like to see Rodon come back. I'd like to see Lopez figure out a role - whether that be starting or in the pen or as an opener.

  32. I'd trade Collins a NY minute at this point. Dude doesn't even play. If someone actually wanted him, you trade his ass immediately. Even next year when McCann is gone, Grandal should be catching damn near every day like he has every season until this one. Collins has no real role on this club moving forward other than just depth. Now, I wouldn't just give him away. I am talking about another club that actually values him in a trade.

  33. I genuinely cannot fathom some of the reactions to this, both here and on twitter. He's a gold glove caliber utility infielder who fits well into the clubhouse, doesn't cost anything, and provides valuable insurance to multiple positions. He is EXACTLY what we needed for the next half of the season, given that Leury is out, Madrigal got hurt, and Moncada is perpetually banged up.

  34. The problem with this is Cease doesn't need to be as good as Lynn in one individual season; not even close. Lynn has 1 year + 1 month left of control. His value is projected around 4-5 fWAR. Let's give PV (Present value) fWAR an increase in value of roughly .4 times - just because the Sox could technically win this year with their roster. That means, Lynn's fWAR is worth roughly 7 fWAR on the high side. He's making roughly 12 million over that time; a nice 1.7 million per WAR. A heck of a bargain. Cease is projected to be woth 2 fWAR next year and .3 the rest of the way this year. Putting his PV at 3.22 fWAR at a cost under 2 million. .62 million per fWAR. Obviously we need to give greater weight to the 7 fWAR over the 3, but the value in their deals aren't that far off. The major difference is while Cease has 3.22 fWAR in PV, and Lynn has 7, Cease has roughly +9 addition fWAR in FV. Putting his entire deal at 12.22 fWAR compared to Lynn's 7. Even with the emphasis on PV, there isn't enough value difference between the two to warrant even a straight up swap IMO.

  35. He will take Delmonico's spot when he's ready to go. I do agree, there is not much opportunity here. Surprised he came back actually. But it's for a month at best. The money is probably the same everywhere, he might as well go to something familiar.

  36. And the Angels have anchored themselves, not once (Pujols), twice (Upton), thrice (Rendon), and now the biggest whale (Trout) with mega deals that aren't producing enough wins. At least the Sox cheapness has kept them from going off the deep end like this. Balance is key.

  37. 8-4 puts us at 25-16. I would be pleased with that result.

  38. How long till the Sox hire Delmonico to work in the FO?

  39. That author trying to goad Cease / stievers / Collins is laughable. Hahn would get fired immediately. Now that deal for DeGrom...sure, but Mets are not accepting anything without either Kopech or Vaughn

  41. Part of it is the quality of the hitters. Go back and look at college highlights. His stuff moves so much that the college hitters swung at pitches way out of the zone. The problem is his pitches still do that but ashe moved up the levels the hitters got better and just dont swing at the pitches. He went to driveline and they straightened him out some but when he did that his stuff was very hittable. He never found that middle ground of the pitches moving but not enough to fly way out of the zone.

  42. So this was caufield calling the dodgers great apparently. Guy asked if trading Verdugo for betts was a bad move hahaha Let's review. Caufield calls padres the best young team In nl and the future best team in the NL. Someone points out the dodgers. Caufield says they're "weak" in all these places. I point out the dodgrrs arent just old and great but young and great too. Caufield said he never said the dodgers weren't the ones to beat.... So moral of the story is caufield just wanted to bring the padres and tatis up again.

  43. Its just frustrating to see people continue to disregard half the game. Plus, the Reds just signed the dude and are trying to win. They aren't going to trade him.
