  1. Hopefully they resign James McCann. I think he needs to be a bigger priority than what people are saying he will actually be. Figure it out, he's a major reason this team is where it is.

  7. The people ripping on Grandal crack me up. This is basically who he is. He's not that far off from his career numbers and like 4-5 days ago his slash line was basically identical to his career slash line. He's a catcher, and an elite one. He's not going to hit .300. He's an unbelievably good fit for this roster in terms of OBP and lineup balance, and is easily a top 2 catcher in the game. Stop complaining. James McCann has been really good this year when he's gotten the opportunity to play, much like he was the first half of next year. I'd love to keep him around past 2020, but chances of him wanting to resign to be in 30/70 or so timeshase with one of the best catchers in the league is doubtful. Its not that hard to figure out.

  10. Wrong again. Grandal has accumulated 0.6 fWAR this season, good for 3rd in the AL. Stop using bWAR for catchers - its useless. Yes. McCann has been better in the first 35 games. I am not denying that. He's also been far worse his entire career. The two aren't really comparable and we're talking about an extremely small sample size. I am not bad mouthing James - I like the guy. But people need to get a grip on Grandal.

  11. Heard Steve Stone on the Score this afternoon. Basically said what we all think: tonight is the end of the road for Lopez. If he doesn't have a good start, it'll probably be his last one.

  12. Then don't suggest that he doesn't want to play here unless you have information to back that up.

  13. It's doubtful that James McCann wants to return. He's going to go be the starter somewhere.

  14. I don't believe that was his point. I think it was more taking issue with the strong implication that "This is what this is. Post COVID fatigue syndrome. Ain't it a shame?". I mean, it's a bit of an absurd comment. Based on literally zero information or knowledge of what Moncada is dealing with. It's being assumed by some here for no reason. In fact, Moncada's issue has been described as a leg injury. Yet, this "Post Covid Fatigue" narrative is being pushed despite DIRECT reports from the team.

  20. Leaving a guy with an ops over 1.000 ops and one home run per six at bats against the starting pitcher has got to be among the dumbest things RR has done yet. That is just inexcusable. Hahn ought to hire someone to throw cold water on him and slap him across the face before he makes the lineups out each day.

  22. LOL! Yasmani Grandal accumulated more fWAR in the 2019 season than Saltalamacchio did in his entire career. This is an awful take.

  24. Would have been nice if we saw it last night when he watched a hanging slider right down broadway on a 3-1 count and then swung through the same pitch to end the game.

  25. has McCann said he wants to be a bench player for the next 3 years?
    3 points
  26. Yeah McCann is gone. After declining options on EE, Cishek and Gonzalez, they should sign Joc to a short term deal and bat him 5th and move down Grandal to around 7 until he shows his power has returned.

  27. Having two quality catchers is a good thing not bad. I consider them co-starting catchers with the other one being DH/backup. The mistake was signing EE, not Grandal.

  28. Grandal, a historically streaky catcher, is a few hot games off his career averages. He's a top 2 catcher in the game and elite at framing. We're also, hear me out, 27 games played into the contract. I've also been having this "fuck it, it's 2020" idea.
    3 points
  29. I've never understood why Grandal was signed to the biggest contract in White Sox history. McCann made the All Star team in 2019. I thought McCann would have been signed to a long term contract this past off season. Hahn has obviously fallen in love with Grandal and I simply don't see why. He's been having a hard time hitting his weight. McCann has done nothing but good since he's been in a White Sox uniform. I have no doubt in my mind that McCann will be playing for another team next season. I really couldn't blame him for leaving. Funny thing about this is the White Sox are stuck with Grandal. Nobody is going to take him in a trade with his big contract.

  30. Yeah have to be honest with yourself as a team. If you want to be a winner you have to make winner moves. And we've beaten on some pretty poor pitching teams. If we want playoff runs, your DH can't bat like Dunn and your RF can't have Madrigal power.

Garcia $0.3M; E. Encarnacion $0.0M; J. Dyson $0.0M. J. Fry $0.0M. Total White Sox Payroll: $130.7M Key Decisions: 1. James McCann: Very important in terms of defense, pitcher development and pitch calling. Grandal signing hamstrung organization in terms of not filling their biggest 2020 lineup hole (Right Field - Nick Castellanos better use of $$$, especially looking at the options in 2021 Free Agents). That said, it's likely he walks, Collins is the backup. Hope Lucas and others don't take a step back as a result. Decent possibility RONA continues and there's a total collapse of the FA market, allowing McCann to return with a reasonable deal. 2. Starting Pitcher: Do they rely on in house options, or sign one more SP (2-4) to add depth while the young core continues to develop. 3. Closer: Will they attempt to resign Colome or will they attempt to go in house and use $ to shore up middle relief or RF? Bummer injury impacts his potential promotion. 4. Right Field: Will they stick with Mazara, or contemplate a trade to acquire an adequate defender and bat? Short sample size so far, but nothing to indicate Mazara will progress beyond a below average fielder and corner OF hitter. Limited Minor League options at this point to fill this position. Wild Card = RONA: I don't see the White Sox being among the aggressive teams if RONA continues in 2021 and beyond, allowing for few/no free agents beyond ML Minimum Salary roster additions. They will likely seek continued salary reductions from players for next season.

  32. I had the same first thought. This doesn't surprise me...even just on TV it seems like a really good clubhouse to be a part of with some really young talent.

  34. I’m not sure why everyone is acting like this is a definite loss... good teams lose to bad teams all the time... and we are not a bad team, even with Lopez on the mound.

  36. And the only reason he is playing is because of injuries. If it wasn't for Yoan being ouchie, and Leury being out for the year, and Mendick slumping, Yolmer would be buried on the bench.

  37. Can y'all chill? Here are our 3B options: Jake Burger, Yermin Mercedes. I guess the team could get creative and get Laz Rivera and Yolbert Sanchez up to Schaumburg, but, let's be real here. Mendick is coming back to earth and is best used situationally. Yolmer is a good defender. We may all be squirmin' for Yermin to be sent down while we watch him butcher a slow roller down the line at 3B (which isn't fair to him, since he's not a 3B). Burger is coming back from tearing his fucking achilles twice. The team knows Yolmer, he's a good defender. Yoan needs rest in the worst way. Unless someone on this board that's complaining about Yolmer playing at third is going to magically summon 2006 Joe Crede, I'd like to know what magical 3B depth we're going to get that is acceptable.

  38. Lopez has talent. I wish his peers would convince him to try a faster pace with a more bulldog attitude. He comes off as afraid to throw the ball. It would be huge if he would turn into a competent #4 or #5.

  43. If Mazara has no power, I see no reason why we don't run Engel out in RF most days. I could see EE heating up at some point. I don't see Mazara doing so this year.
