I agree with this 100%. It doesn’t work with everyone but to some people gestures like this mean a lot. It doesn’t even necessarily mean he has to have an ulterior motive. From everything you hear about JR when you are actually one of his employees he is an extremely nice, generous and loyal guy....sometimes to a fault. He is an old school businessman that probably thinks if you make it a family like atmosphere people won’t want to leave. It has worked with guys like Abreu...he pretty much said in the off-season he wasn’t going anywhere no matter what the Sox said. Outside we think JR is a cheap owner looking to make money, but inside it is probably a different feeling.....maybe with an exception of how players feel about LaRussa.5 points

Ok, let me try to understand what you're posting here: 1. You're claiming that all of "The Media" reported that COVID-19 was not lab created. 2. You're now claiming that all of "The Media," both here in the US, and across the Western World, conspired together to "do a 180." QUESTION: Does that make any sense at all? Sub-question: Does "The Media" include water carriers for the previous administration, or is this just a ginned-up verbal device to sound as scary as possible to the weak-minded and naive? Now, you're calling for Dr. Fauci to "be investigated." A few quick questions for you: 1. What, exactly, would you "investigate?" 2. What purported offense has occurred here? 3. (Most importantly) Can you spell out what, exactly, would be Dr. Fauci's means/motive/opportunity to offend? (IOW, "Cui Bono?") 4. Do you understand the THE SCIENTIFIC METHOD, and how it works? Thanks in advance.4 points

The White Sox and Cardinals are not rivals... If anything the fan bases like each other more than any other two MLB teams. I've worn a sox cap to multiple Cards games in St Louis and I've been given more hi fives, cheers, and "fuck the cubs" than I can count.4 points

It boggles my mind the Sox get this player who is thought of as nothing but a great teammate and person. Who actually plays baseball well enough he won an MVP award. And there are Sox fans that still seem to live to whine about him.4 points

Geez, Ron your obsession about Jose is embarrassing. Truly your stance on Jose gives fans a bad name. Try to look at him big picture. If you are mad about the chewing tobacco, just ride that horse. You can continue to point out that's the reason you despise him if that is the reason. You don't need to be ultra critical of the player/hitter. It really truly does give fans a bad name. No reason to disparage the guy as a player. As ar as today, Stuff happens. He made the final out. Who cares? He's a very good baseball hitter and fielder. I'd give him an A and say he'd be a starter on every team or almost every team in MLB. Surprised you can't enjoy the Jose era on the southside. p.s. I love Yermin but isn't baseball strange? His BA is down to .304, which is still good but remember how long he was over .400? The regression to the mean has to happen for every player. I really do think hitting a baseball where they ain't is the hardest thing to do in sports. If I were a hitter, I'd rather figure a way to hit .350 with only 15 HRs and 80 RBIs than hit .275 with 47 HRs and 110 RBI cause it must be so frustrating to make an out. The sport is cruel to hitters. Excellence means failing seven of 10 times.4 points

This is hack-level misuse of this statistic, comparing a career counting stat total with the "awful" assessment in a single season. That would be like saying a player with 100 career RBI is elite because 100 RBI is a lot for one season. On top of that, even a cursory glance at his numbers would show you that a whopping -1.67 of that -2.11 came in 2016 alone, and that every other season he's been within -0.5 to +0.5. This is just a comically bad take and/or fabricated narrative; it's like how you'd expect cable political news to use data. Also, suggesting that we should be concerned about playoff performance because of leverage index is, at best, a complete misunderstanding of leverage index. And it's not a great statistic, anyway. It's really a different expression of WPA, which is useful in a descriptive way that same way RBI or runs scored is -- meaning it can be a really compelling part of say, and MVP conversation, but an incredibly bad number to use to make any sort of projection or assessment of talent. The reason this stat is rarely talked about is because it's been shown to have practically no predictive value, meaning it would be a bad idea to make decisions based on it, or similarly, to be "worried about him in the playoffs."4 points

I wasn't even referring to you specifically, but since you seem to take this Hendriks talk so personally, I figured I'd check out your posting history on Liam: From a game thread, so I can't quote it, but here's a gem: "I can think of 55 million reasons, over 486 games why a 32 year old who was ridden like a rented mule shouldn't have been this team's most expensive acquisition this offseason. His value was inflated, by insane usage patterns that included Hendriks pitching in 75 games in 2019, for the purposes of a pump-and-dump. What's worse, is if this is supposed to be what Hendriks is NOW, how much shittier will he be at age 33 or 34, when Father Time just curb-stomps him? [Just think: An $18 MILLION future middle reliever can keep this org from landing a SP to replace Lynn or Rodon next offseason.] OTOH, I can think of 6.25 million reasons, over a mere 162 games, why Colome would have been the superior FIT for this roster. [Given the self-imposed financial constraints.] There are/were other reasons why Colome would have fit better, if you count up all the closers-in-waiting that populate the MLB roster, and in MiLB for this org." A few more (there are plenty more, but I got bored reading Liam slander);3 points

5-2 their last 7 1-0 win over the Indians, 2-5 loss 3-2, 6-1 and 6-2 victories over the Yankees (most shocking series sweep of the season, arguably) 2-3 loss and 10-7 win over the Brewers Three above .500/playoff-contending teams. 27 RS / 20 RA (less than 3 runs per game)2 points

So, if there was a lab leak that caused all of this, does that mean the virus is real? I’d rather go back to it being fake news. Less scary. In any event, I’m going to run and grab a few cases of toilet paper from the grocery store before all the old people get up from their naps.2 points

You probably won't like what I have to say and frankly, I don't like saying it. There's a saying that goes you can catch more flies with honey than you can with vinegar. The nicer JR is to Rodon now perhaps it greases the wheels to resigning him. It's kind of like the family and friends plan they tried with Machado. JR is a smart business man. A small investment in the short term can pay dividends in the long term. I believe this move by JR can be genuine however I cannot eliminate the possibility of an ulterior motive.2 points

A common refrain from some Cubs fans is that the Sox are not their rival and that only sox fans care about it. Its obviously a deflection but seems that some Sox fans have been influenced by it. Nobody who lives in Chicago and been to a sox-cubs game could ignore the intensity of it. I guess if you live out of state you might not feel it.2 points

If you're going to respond with the same tone, I am not going to respond anymore. You can brag that you got me I don't care. If you seriously wanted to understand, I answered your questions but I think we both know that's not what your post was about. You and I are subjected to different rules and given this post and others from you I realize that you don't respond to my posts because you want to have a conversation or hear a different view point. So if it's going to continue with more of the same, I am done responding. All I am doing is speaking on the current event that is a result of an official government release as a result of the Freedom of Information Act. This release, among many other happenstances over the last ~16 months cast Mr. Fauci as someone who is either incompetent or consistently lying about significant matters. As an American, I am simply questioning why our government's highest paid employee is, in the best case scenario, completely incompetent. And if that's not the case, I would like to know what's causing him to have different public and private opinions and rotating, ever-evolving public opinions that change given the month, administration or "phase" of the virus. I don't understand why you respond to my posts so rudely and why you feel the corporate media entities and the highest paid government employee (a millionaire multiple times over) are in need of you defense? Why are you rude to a fellow American questioning them following the unveiling of their questionable behavior? Do you really think the billion dollar media companies deserve your fervor-filled defense?2 points

Jose Abreu is one of the best players in White Sox history. Outside the diamond I also believe his success and having him as an ambassador has/will continue to have long lasting implications with Latino players.2 points

This. Exactly this. I would have preferred the cash being invested elsewhere for this years team. At the same time, buying a closer on the wrong side of 32 hasn't exactly worked out for this team over the years. That said, congrats to him on this honor. Here's hoping he can keep this up and live up to the contract.2 points

Nobody said he sucked. People said that he wasn't enough of an upgrade over in house options to justify the money that could have gone to a better outfielder or better starting pitcher. I was on the fence. I saw both sides of the argument.2 points

I don't know about that. When Yermin was raking he seems to cover the plate so well and blast everything hard. I'd be surprised if he turns to crud. I feel for the guy cause he's been lousy since the incident in which he took too much heat for the alleged offense. I personally think he'll have a huge game very soon, like 3 HRs in a game or 7 RBI in a game or five hits in a game again or something.1 point

Maybe it's purely coincidence, but Yermin has been slumping since the homerun incident. Maybe the manager publically calling out his playstyle and putting him in the spotlight for a week wasn't the best idea.1 point
-
It must be all that damn jewelry weighing him down in the batters box. ??? Not surprised to see the league making standard adjustments to take away his strengths, while exploiting his patterns and weaknesses. It’s all going to come down to his ability (or lack thereof) to make the necessary adjustments. Yermin’s next 3-4 weeks will be interesting to witness.1 point
