  1. Man, Josh Nelson has some really bad takes on Twitter.

  2. In that case, as soon as Burger became ready at 3rd, Moncada should be available in trades.

  3. He’s out there ripping Sox fans for not wanting to give up Burger for a rental (or at least Escobar), but then refers to him as 35 FV guy because of an outdated Fangraphs assessment. Sorry, but the dude lost 40 Lbs and has skipped two levels and is performing at a high level and had a 1st round pedigree to begin with. He’s not a top 100 prospect, but he’s also much better than the 35 FV designation he was previously given. Also, Josh doesn’t seem to get that the goal is to maximize value of your assets and not just given them away because they’re currently blocked. Just some really poor takes from the dude.

  4. I have no idea what physical issues he might have, which could explain why he is playing below expectations. I was simply asserting that this version of Moncada is hardly one of the 10 to 15 best players in the Majors. He's 42ND in batting average, 106TH in SLG% and tied for 193RD in Home runs. He is 52ND in OPS. He does have a great OBP. I'll give him that.

  5. This reminds me of the way the politicians worry about spending over $1 trillion, but have managed to spend $4-5 trillion in recent years. It’s almost not real. It’s the same way with the Sox budgets. We’re almost conditioned to act like its our own money. That we’re wringing our hands over $4ish million and worrying there will be no way to add a RFer and reliever is telling. Next year, it will be the CBA uncertainty. The whole mentality is not a championship-focused one. It’s more just being happy to get into the playoffs and maybe advance. It’s always this way. We added Grandal, Hendriks and Keuchel, now there’s almost no financial flexibility. Seems a foregone conclusion that Giolito and Anderson will eventually be gone, so why worry about window years 5-7 when we should be maximizing year 2? Even at the budget of the Cubs, it wasn’t sustainable and their last four years will be disappointing barring a major pitching miracle. We’re ONLY about $70-80 million behind them. But that was 2016-2018. It’s like we are supposed to be thankful we’re not running even tighter budgets like the Indians, Tigers and Royals. Austerity rules. But it will will unlikely lead to a championship since we have no niche or competitive advantage, other than Cubans (diminishing every year) and what, Katz?

  6. Tight budget lol. What a load of crap. This franchise desperately needs an ownership change.

  7. Moncada is hitting .275 with a .393 SLG%. He's on pace to hit about 30 2B, no triples and 11 homers, while driving in about 75 runs. He has attempted just 3 stolen bases and been caught once. He's a good fielding third baseman and takes his share of walks. I don't know how most people here feel about him, but he has certainly not performed like most expected, or up to his potential. Let's hope he starts to do that, and soon. He's hitting more like a prototypical second baseman, than a guy at the hot corner. He's one of the big reasons this team is not hitting the long ball.

  8. Fans calling players assets, capital, commodities etc is about as douchey as it gets.

  9. Jesus Christ, this guy says a whole lot of nothing using way too many characters.

  10. For this season, why not? The team is in desperate need to get more offense in there. If that's by plugging Burger (or anyone else) at 3B and moving Mocada to 2B, then go do it. It's no like we're relocating Mike Schmidt here. Nothing is owed to Moncada. If the Sox feel they can find a good enough bat to plug in at 3B and move Moncada to 2B, Sox need to explore every option.

  11. Would rather have Whit Merrifield than Escobar myself. He should be available with the Royals plummeting.

  12. They shouldn’t trade Burger because you can just tell from the way he plays that he’s going to be an everyday player. I can see him maybe replacing Moncada someday. Escobar obviously isn’t a long term solution, only a rental so why trade someone that will fill a need for us long term for someone who will only be here short term.

  13. To me, Jake Burger is going to have a MLB career as long as he stays healthy, and he is one of the better prospects in the organization. Trading him for a rental doesn't make sense unless it's a superstar.

  14. I am vaccinated but open minded. To me, given the vaccine availability in both quantity and the facilities administering it, there should have been a set date that everyone who wants to get vaccinated, gets vaccinated by. To everyone simply quoting the word "science" for their beliefs on the vaccine, why did the MNC pharmaceutical companies need to be exempted from suit if the science/vaccine is science is so well understood and the vaccine is so safe? If that were the case I don't know why they would be concerned with any potential suits. It's just a little strange seeing all the people shilling for the corporations/pharmaceutical companies.

  15. Desperation is a media narrative and nothing more. The Sox are in first place and their divisional foe is riddled with injuries to their strength (arms). The D Back are way more in need of moving pieces to acquire something for them than the Sox are to overpay for a middle of the road player.

  16. There is a lack of understanding of the relationship between Emergency Use Authorization and Full FDA Approval because Emergency Use Authorization has never come into play in such a widespread manner before, so very few people have heard of it or understand it. The time it takes to get full FDA approval makes it really inconsequential in the midst of a pandemic that is this severe and spreads this quickly. If we didn't use these vaccines before full FDA approval, the Delta variant would have wiped out another million or so people by now. Cancer patients whose life expectancy is measured in months rather than years use new drugs and treatments that are Emergency Use Authorization all the time.

  17. I know this is thread hacking but speaking of a player involved in a previous trade with the twins… anyway I feel like Sox should be trying to get Cruz (or Donaldson). Twins have the expensive fire sale goods we’d be all over except division Yada yada. Sheeeeeeet I’d welcome back Colome.

  21. 0 idea how he'll be as a pro, but what Jake Burger has done after 2 Achilles tears is unprecedented

  22. It's not just that, he just thinks guys are worth way more than they are. When I pointed out that Castellanos and JD Martinez were traded for a bag of balls with their contracts expiring he chose to ignore that fact. Castellanos was a better piece than Escobar. I think Burger has a lot to prove, but there's just no reason to move him when the cost for a guy like Escobar should honestly be whatever the Sox feel comfortable with given the way the market has moved for rental position players the last 5ish years. No one is giving up much more than depth and a lotto ticket for guys like that anymore.

  23. Everything aside - greg, thank you for overcoming your hesitancy and getting vaccinated. I'm sure if you had super adverse side effects, you would have let us know. From everything we have seen, you're still doing alright. Moreover, you have not gotten infected, or if you did you had no symptoms, which is another thing the vaccines help with. You may have helped make sure others did not get sick or die.

  24. This doesn't make sense. If Escobar is damaged goods and the Sox are desperate, Arizona should be dropping their price to get the Sox to take him before we find a better option.

  28. The sox have OF reinforcements coming back later this year in Engel, Robert, and Eloy (if they plan to put that Circus Act back out there). They have nothing to plug into the middle IF right now to try to win this season.

  30. Why do the Sox want to mess with another iffy hamstring?

  31. Isn’t Escobar a free agent after this year? So you’d really be trading for a rental. That’s a bad idea unless you’re talking about someone like Rutherford who you know isn’t very good.

  32. Might as well bring Burger up here too honestly. Its practically a AAA team up here now anyways and Abrue needs to rest and may be out a week or two. Sheets and Burger could infuse some much needed life in this lineup.

  34. Obviously I didn’t want Abreu to get hurt again, but ultimately this could be a good thing. Let him rest and heal up for awhile. We need him at his best down the stretch.

  40. He hadn't played competitive baseball in 2 years, and reported 6 weeks late to play, yet we're worried about him getting into the swing after 5 games. 5 games. Yes, that is overreacting.
