If Cease gives up a run today, the playoffs look like a fist round sweep, if the Sox even make it. He really needs to be Jacob Degrom for the Sox to have the slightest chance.Only a 10 1/2 game lead, which really is smaller since it is only 9 in the loss column. A 5 game series in Cleveland where there is no chance the Sox win a game. With Gio hurt, Rodon limited, Lynn with a bad knee, Kuechel really bad, Cease is all the Sox really have. They have gone backwards since 2020. Time to back the truck up. What a dreadful season.5 points

Man that’s just a terrible summary of how those 2 Months went. You even left out the two early October games. August: 12-16. September/October: 19-12. Started September with a 7 game winning streak. That team played 7 games above .500 the last month and went into the playoffs on a winning streak. As long as you’re sure there’s a stretch of 16-1 ball coming, you’re right on.3 points

stop gate keeping. Fans can criticize the team when they just LOST the season series to the Royals. That is pathetic. No way around it.3 points

They should have traded Kopech before the deadline when his value was at peak. Not many teams gonna want all of his baggage now.3 points
-
True, but in a lousy division with only one other .500 team. In 1977, KC won 102. If memory serves me right, Texas, who was in the Sox division at the time, won 94. Since the ASB, the Sox have been shut out six times. That sucks.2 points

As a Colts fan it's amazing to hear some of their players say they won't get vaccinated because they don't know the long term effects while playing a sport that scrambles your brains.2 points

The third time the team has been shut out during the past few weeks. The 1977 South Side Hitmen team got shut out twice for the whole year. I know it is tough to win on the road, but they were out scored 13-2 in these two losses to an under .500 club. I think there is plenty to be concerned about with this club.2 points

Singer's pretty good but I don't think he's this good. Our offense didn't even get 2 runners on in any inning today. Pathetic showing.2 points

Perez vs. Sox: .309/.324/.647 Perez vs. Indians: .159/.245/.364 The pitches we throw him are pretty similar to how the Indians pitch him. Around 36-38% fastballs (let's not pretend the Indians don't throw him any fastballs). But here's the difference (first is Indians, 2nd is Sox) We throw him a lot more pitches near the outside black as opposed to off the plate and low. His hot/cold zones vs. the Sox is all red whereas he only has 2 hot zones vs. the Indians. It's all about execution.2 points

There we go . Greg is the only sane person here. Celebrate the win and the players who made it possible ! Grandal only has 9 more PA's than Yermin Mercedes. That under .200 B.A. is a memory and he is now at .227. If he had played the whole season he might be up there with Salvy Perez in HR's. That .947 OPS isn't too shabby either. Robert looks so balanced and locked in. He has less than 200 PA's and the HR's are now coming. What a force he will be offensively and defensively if he stays healthy ! Abreu called Eloy and Robert " his sons" recently and even though he was speaking figuratively, the apple didn't fall far from the tree.2 points

Yeah, should have traded Kopech. They should have traded Moncada after 2019. Hopefully they will trade Robert and Eloy this off-season before it is too late. Fuck winning. Let’s get some prospects.2 points

Robert, Abreu and Grandal socked 10 hits. My gosh. Jose regular batting average up to .267. Not bad in the HR/strikeout era. Nice win.2 points

I am happy with the win, too, since it seems so hard to win in KC. Any multi-run inning for Kopech. Don't know what to say about his recent regression. It can't come from overuse. He made this game harder than it should have been.2 points

The concern isn't whether they are winning are losing over the last two months, or what they did or didn't do in 2005 or 1977. Also, beating a tanking Cleveland team is not even a minimal threshold during a "multi-championship window". The concern is whether this team will be healthy enough and playing in mid-season/strong form heading into October to be a legitimate WS contender. The legitimate concerns are: Rodon's shoulder is a concern, as is his innings count vs. previous innings counts the past few seasons. Is he out of gas? Lynn's knee has been bothering him for at least a month, and has won once since his July contract extension. Kopech has been very inconsistent since returning from the IL, and has regressed in terms of stretching out. Will he be able to contribute in October? Grandal has caught 6 Sox games in the past two months, can he catch at least 2 of 3 / back to back games in October, and if so will it impact his hitting or the defense he attempts beyond framing? Is Engel done, leaving defensive hacks Goodwin/Sheets as very possible RF possibilities vs. RHP in the playoffs? Does Tony have enough strength this late in the season, or can someone on the bench be assigned to assist raising Tony's hand in the air with four fingers raised to signal an intentional walk to umpires when circumstances dictate, or will he need a few more lessons before grasping this "new rule" in 2021 or 2022, and continue to blame catchers or missed pitches in the interim? Lucas and Tim are also out, but based on progress reports they are at the lower end of potential concerns at this point, and will hopefully be themselves in 1-2 weeks.1 point

The AL Central is a farce, THIS YEAR, Minnesota and Cleveland gave up early. KC and Detroit are not quite ready unless they play us every game, KC that is. We’d be fighting for a wild card slot if we were in any other division. our record WOULD NOT be our record if we were in a different division1 point
-
If they’re not healthy, then rest them. The problem is they’re not healthy. They’ve had amazing luck all year with pitching injuries until the last few weeks.1 point
-
There’s nothing that guarantees though that rest will resolve some of these issues (Rodon and Lynn specifically)1 point

The 2005 White Sox went 29-28 in August and September with extended losing streaks. They saw their double digit lead drop to 1.5 games against a talented Cleveland team by mid-September. The Sox also had losing records against The Red Sox and Angels that season. Is the current team struggling while Players are rested and on IL? Yes. Is it Hyperbole to say it’s over and they won’t win a playoff game? YES. Relax. One goal.1 point

Sox get a runner to 2nd for the first time with 2 out in the 9th. Absolutely pathetic effort by the offense.1 point
-
This team is in a bad division and they kinda don’t care about winning right now. Hopefully with a couple weeks left in the season they’ll be at full strength and they’ll know what happened last year can’t happen again.1 point

This has been my concern since the All Star break. Even mostly healthy they play like shit half of the time. Doesn’t inspire much confidence that they can simply flip that switch.1 point

Ok I understand they have a big lead and just want everyone rested and healthy for the postseason....but will they just be able to turn it on when the time comes? They are very streaky and not very good on the road. But that might just be my long suffering Sox Fandom talking....still excited to see them in the postseason for the 2nd year in a row.1 point

Burr can at least get through most outings without giving up runs. Foster seems like a lost cause at this point.1 point

I don't know 'bout y'all, but I'm on the verge of giving up hope on this game.1 point

Early data says the booster is incredible…I will be getting mine when they say to do so…but I know moderna needed to go back and get some data cleaned up that will delay their boosters…but early results in Israel have been extremely promising…as in 4 or 5 times stronger than the original vac (which was already amazing).1 point

I also wonder if Kopech’s lack of use has contributed to his recent ineffectiveness1 point
-
Crochet has gone from the guy Renteria needed to get a playoff win, to a guy who pitches once a week if he is lucky in 6 run games. He has been throwing pretty well as of late. Either there is some sort of injury concern or his usage is just stupid.1 point
-
Why bring in crochet now and not start of inning??? Wtf are we doing? This is fucking ridiculous and a shit show. Keep getting our ass kicked by royals.... Fuck this.... All the believers will hate me for this but this team is not going past the 1st round you write that down now. I have been saying it all 2nd half that this Team has an complacent attitude.1 point

I'm more excited by Hernandez than Colas. If the Sox want to be competitive year round like the Dodgers and Rays, then they need to invest more resources into the DR and Venezuela, instead of just focusing on older Cuban players. Juan Soto was the 25th ranked player in his class FWIW1 point
-
Pretty much, yeah. And then they try to hide them from other teams until they are 16.1 point
-
In their top 30, Colas at 22yo. Another guy is 18. Everyone else is 16yo. So to find these guys you are scouting and developing 13-14yo? Like going to the little league fields and going "yep he's a major leaguer, heres 2 million"1 point

That's the tough part, his grades are almost identical to #1, yet he is #26.1 point
