Orrrrrr.....like.....they're interviewing a ton of different options like they said they wanted to do and most fans said they SHOULD do, and they haven't been updating the media on every step of the process. To this point, the Sox have done absolutely nothing worth getting upset about. They certainly have it within them to f*** this up, but to this point, they haven't. I continue to not understand how some people think this process has been some sort of disaster. Sox cannot control what blowhards say on the radio, nor should they directly have to address it.12 points

From what I know, the White Sox have interviewed lots of people. By design, we don’t know about them. Everyone has heard about Ozzie because of his kids and friends in the media. I don’t think we should believe that he’s some sort of front runner just because it’s public. I’d be really surprised if they hired Ozzie Guillen.6 points

Sox fans fear a disaster because their last manager search was a literal disaster. It is a legitimate fear based on their most recent history. I can't even be mad at people for it, because Tony LaRussa.6 points

I don’t know, but Long did manage some in the minors. And I’m sure he’s thinking baseball all the time in the dugout. He’s qualified. I’m rooting for him to be the guy…especially over Ozzie. But I’ll choose to believe Ozzie is already out of the running,3 points

Rob Thomson had some real good quotes today on Kevin Long. Basically how much confidence he gives his hitters. I’m sold on that guy being qualified to take over a team, especially when we need our core guys to hit for some power.3 points

What they have in common is one championship, failed for anything more even with a lot of promise. Then went elsewhere and were huge faliures.3 points

All you seem to want to do here is find reasons to be offended at what everyone else is talking about. We keep hearing your self-aggrandizing moral superiority on these topics, and excuses to look down on everyone who you don't agree with and label them. No is is substituting a managerial hire for some sort of meaningful occurrence, except for you. With so many people here who offend you, I am not quite sure why you waste your time on all of this so called "childish" behavior here, with all of these other way more important real life things you seem to think everyone else should be worrying about, while you seemingly also don't worry about them. It's laughable that you want to waste so much time on following people around to be offended by them.3 points

Oof. That's so childish. That's like people who take pride for blocking pro Biden / pro Trump followers. It's a managerial hire, for baseball. Entertainment. Let's get a grip on life here.3 points

I imagine the Sox interview with Mendoza went something like this…. Hahn: Can you bring with you Aaron Judge on the cheap Mendoza: Why the need? You have Sheets in RF. Hahn: You are now a finalist for the manager’s job. We will get back to you before Thanksgiving…3 points
-
It's unnecessary fear and folks just looking to drown in a cup of water. Tony LaRussa is not the main reason the White Sox lost this past season. Until we get a grip on that fact as Sox fans, we'll just continue to keep being delusional and not pointing the finger where it belongs. a) The players b) Health c) Rich Hahn. LaRussa comes in right behind that group. And the next manager hire will fall in that exact same place in relevance for White Sox success.3 points

I understand it's hard for some people to give the Sox the benefit of the doubt, but my goodness some fans are just insufferable. Getting on them for casting a wide net(including Ozzie) is just silly. Years past everyone would get on them for NOT running the gauntlet on interviews.3 points
-
I for one am happy that this is being drawn out with many options. Makes me feel like they are actively doing due-diligence and debating candidates properly. And the hires all the other teams have made are solid...but were not realistic to Sox signing anyways. Long makes the most sense based on needs...and it not being announced yet could simply be the Phillies asking for it to wait until after WS.3 points

Near as I can tell, it has something to do with Mike Ditka and dorks2 points
-
To say that "a couple of guys could have coached the 85 Bears" is probably true. However Ditka was hired in 1982, and it was those years that formed the 85 Bears. Ditka got rid of those that didn't have TWTW and molded the 85 Bears into Champions. To say that anyone could have managed the 85 team is selling short what it took to get to the Super Bowl.2 points

40 years of a backwards acting and backwards thinking organization and you think the fan base is off kilter ? The small outrage over a potential Guillen signing should pale in comparison to 40 years of wandering in the desert as a franchise. Reinsdorf hasn't exactly been Moses leading us to the promised land . All he does is limit the franchises' resources in so many areas to limit the teams capabilities of operating like a franchise that cares about winning. Name one part of the Sox organization that is up to par with the best organizations in baseball .2 points

There's a whole bunch of details out about Espada if you're interested. He's been a successful coach in a successful organization, worked under both Baker and Hinch. Here's an article from a couple weeks ago on his managerial future, if it's paywalled for you and you want to read it let me know via pm as I have access to that one. Jeremy Pena is a guy who has gotten a lot of work from him. https://www.houstonchronicle.com/texas-sports-nation/astros/article/Houston-Astros-Joe-Espada-manager-future-17492900.php Remember how last year in the playoffs the Astros seemed to have a guy right where every ground ball went off a White Sox bat, and every ball the Astros hit found a hole? That was Espada.2 points

Just in case anyone wants elaboration of my twitter usage. If I follow you for white sox baseball, and suddenly you start expressing very stupid white sox baseball opinions, I will probably unfollow you (unless you are kyyle). If I follow you for finance, and you express some stupid opinions about like, seed oils. I will likely still follow you unless it becomes a primary seed oil account.2 points

50% of your posts are you trying to dunk on someone when you don't understand their original post. I'm saying that in the event the Sox were wasting money in good faith prior to the lockout, I wish they would have tried to give it to Abreu. Not exactly a controversial take. Is it possible he didn't want to sign an extension? Yes. Obviously. I also agree Abreu was overpaid in '19. I was strongly against that signing. Turns out I was very wrong but this was definitely not a pro-Abreu post. It was a "if we were going to burn money on a veteran, I wouldn't have chosen Leury".2 points

Why are people freaking out about Ozzie when Harold literally said no one, not even Jerry, wants him to be the manager.2 points
-
There is another reason as well. Ditka and Ozzie have a few things in common, but the biggest is they led teams to Championships and no one since then has. And no one really has before them, either...at least who are alive. Wanting Ozzie back just because of what he did in 2005 is stupid. However, this fan base (same with the Bears) literally don't know what it's like to have teams that win on a consistent basis, and after time...giving consideration to a guy you actually saw have success with your favorite team starts to look pretty good, especially to a casual observer. I don't want Ozzie as the next coach. For all the reasons that have already been mentioned in this thread. But I can at least understand at the surface why people would.2 points

Really simply - it was stated bluntly he wouldn't come back, and yet he was allowed to interview for the position? How does the second part make sense with the first, unless the first is no longer true? It doesn't. After the last manager, you'll forgive us for watching for those sorts of signs that something really troublesome is brewing...again.2 points

Look, if a manager can't get the most out of his players, then they failed at their job. We KNOW that almost all of these players played WAY under their ceilings and potential after previously playing at a much higher level. We aren't just talking about 1 or 2 guys, but almost the entire franchise fell off. Sometimes a duck, really is a duck.2 points

The managers job is primarily to fix #1 and get the most out of #2. Instead Tony burned this team to the ground.2 points
-
Like I said, one of two things is happening. #1 there is a fight for the heart of the White Sox between Jerry and the rest of the front office. Jerry has Ozzie, and the other guys want to actually do their jobs and get as many opinions about what is going on in the organization so that first off they hire the guy who fits this roster best, and secondly they learn as much as they can about the outside view of the White Sox, and ways to fix the problems. Meanwhile, Jerry thinks he knows best, and may well overrule his front office, again. #2, the Sox are playing 4D chess and running a fairly sophisticated misinformation program where they are using their sources to get out false flags to successfully run a subterfuge around who they actually want to talk to. They are throwing guys like Ozzie out there to keep the "sources" and fans busy while guys like Grifol and Mendoza fly in under the radar, both giving them some cover in their own organizations, as well as allowing the Sox to operate the search without a lot of information out there about it. It also could be something where they are feeding these rumors to specific people to see who is a leaker, and to know who they can trust in the future, and who they cannot, but to also still get tons of misinformation out there to hide their true intentions. To be fully honest, I really don't have any idea what is actually going on. I am afraid it is #1, but really hoping it is #2.2 points

I agree with everything you said, except for the Ozzie part. There is no reason, at all, he should have been interviewed or even considered for this job.2 points

I’m waiting for an official hire before losing my s%*#. Don’t think it will be him but wouldn’t surprise me at all if it is.2 points

I am sure the Ozzie isn't seen as especially likely quote will get conveniently ignored by the large chunk of the fanbase that wants to be outraged at everything the Sox do.2 points

https://www.pinstripealley.com/2021/3/6/22316467/yankees-future-manager-carlos-mendoza-interim-mlb-baseball-aaron-boone-spring-training Grinder ... versatile ... paid his dues ... analytical and organized ... native Spanish speaker (Venezuela) ... Yankees Bench Coach ... Cashman gushes about him ... Mendoza seems to check-off a lot of boxes. Hey, the reality is virtually none of us know a thing about the personalities and leadership skills of any of these guys. The Sox track record doesn't give me a lot of confidence that they're particularly good at evaluating that either -- or even care about such qualities -- but I'm not personally negative about Sox interviewing candidates and these people failing to get the job. The positive spin is that above and beyond the baseball resume, they're looking for leadership qualities that separate that candidate from the pack. Of course, the Sox are gonna Sox, so the less charitable spin is they're looking for someone who is willing to take a below-market deal. For the moment, Mendoza sure seems like a viable candidate with possible upsides. Like the wealth of quality experience, including bench coach for a baseball lifer in the highest profile organization in baseball, that he has amassed for his young age (42).2 points
