The more money I see free agent relievers sign for, the more I can see a team wildly overpaying. In that scenario, I'm totally fine with it.4 points

There's no world in which he's a top 10 prospect in the Sox system4 points

Can’t we just once think of the poor owners? ? Dombrowski was purged during Jerry and Hawk’s White Sox 1986 Cultural Revolution. The Sox went from Dombrowski to just plain old Dumb, which is where we find the Sox today. Dombrowski won a pennant (2022) and World Series (2018) the past five seasons. Wouldn’t want that level of success on the South Side.4 points

I think it’ll end up being wrong. He was actually excellent at throwing runners out until last year. Using the total stolen bases should keep in mind Charlotte had the worst pitching staff in the INtL league AND the new pickoff rules were in effect. I know his arm has been considered below average, but hanging a 30 on it…I doubt they’d spend time on a catcher with a 30 arm.3 points

Honestly, I want every team to sign Correa to a contract this off-season at this point.3 points

Has orchestrated 2 World Series winning teams in his tenure, helped build four different franchises into pennant winning teams (five overall) etc. If he isn't a good GM by your standards then I wonder who is..3 points

Elon's been continuously saying Teslas will drive themselves and be robo-taxis "next year" for years knowing that FSD was only going to maybe achieve high level 2 autonomous driving, meaning there's gotta be someone in the car while FSD operates. Not to mention they're charging $15k for it now and the beta isn't fully public. Not spending $10k on FSD was the best decision I made regarding my Tesla purchase. Elon's basically an owner who says they will sign the next big FA, fail at it, and then say the same thing year after year, only to end up not signing the big money guys.2 points

Hernandez is a healthy Eloy-lite, with 1 year left on his deal. They flipped him for a cost-controlled reliever. Varsho was a top 40 prospect; entered the majors and developed into an excellent fielder with pop; they dealt a great prospect, but from a position where they have depth. Blue Jays aren't unlimited spenders; seems like they leveraged their assets to give themselves a good chance to win.2 points

I know you probably talk to AJ every day and he told you the exact reason he left and of course it’s because the White Sox are so terrible in every way and not worth the time and effort, even though you seem to spend hours a day telling us how everything they do is wrong. But maybe the White Sox told him he was going to be a slightly used back up, which really could have hindered his earning potential after 2023. To be honest, if it was me I still would have taken the $13 million. But that is one of many reasons he may have turned down the option. It doesn’t always have to be the White Sox are so terrible in every way…..2 points

Dombrowski has never been a good GM. Just a reckless spender.2 points

Give me Duvall for the 4th spot. Reyes and Billy can stay in Charlotte for depth.2 points

If the Sox don’t add a solid 4th OF then they aren’t serious about competing next year. Can’t rely on Gavin Sheets or Billy Fucking Hamilton to fill in when one of our starters goes down. And that’s assuming Colas comes up and is able to be semi-productive from the get go.2 points

I've said this before several times in other posts. This is what you get with Steve Cohen as one of the richest billionaires in the US as the owner of a MLB team. I am so jealous the Mets have an owner who isn't cheap, bought the team as a fun hobby, not needing the team revenue to survive and seriously wants to spend ridiculous money to attempt to win a championship at all cost. I am hoping someday in my lifetime we get a Steve Cohen type rich billionaire owner, once the loser Reinsdorf sells the team. The diehard and loyal Sox fans in the 3rd largest US market deserve it. I understand this doesn't guarantee s%*# that the Mets will win a World Series title. However tell me one Sox fan right now who wouldn't take Cohen as the owner over our POS Reinsdorf. At least the Mets are spending the money and attempting to put a competitive team on the field, as opposed to our cheap and demented owner.2 points

Dude, the last 2 things are basically Vaporware. Neuralink is giving monkeys brain damage and the Boring Company's biggest achievement is a Tesla tunnel in Vegas. Give Elon credit where credit is due for Tesla and SpaceX, but you don't gotta defend him like he's gonna share his billions with you.1 point

Varsho bat is nowhere near Teoscar. It seems like they traded offense for defense pretty much all offseason. Also while Varsho metrics on defense last year were encouraging it's literally like 50 games or so. He has far from established himself as a gold glove caliber OF though the asset the Jays gave up (top ten prospect) demands that he be one. If the trade becomes an .750ish OF with power who doesn't get on base with above average defense they got taken to the cleaners. Anyways I wish we got in on Mareno to me he is going to be the next star at catcher. I was extremely surprised the Jays gave up that much control since Jansen is about to be a free agent and Kirk can't catch. What looked to be a surplus really isn't. Anyways to me this was one of the more lopsided trades this offseason.1 point

Let’s make a bet on Vaughn. I take the over on 20 homers… you take the under. Twenty even is a wash. You suggest the terms brother.1 point

I said this much earlier however. The ex GM who suggested the trade seemed to think Liam and Crochet was fair. Since that time we've seen the price of relievers go higher which in turn makes Liam worth more . I don't know if the Yankees would throw in another arm along with Torres but Gleybar Torres is a fine player and more production is needed from the everyday lineup to remove high leverage innings from the pen and give them a cushion to work with. The addition of Benintendi and Torres put 2 more solid bats in the lineup and we've would've been better last year with more consistent and healthy bats. I'm good waiting to see how things shake out with the Yankees and Dodgers and our own "will he or won't he spend more mystery". A difference maker at 2nd base isn't cheap. It's funny people remember how good Liam was on a .500 team but never seem to bring up that the Sox scored 3 runs or less in around half their games and lost Abreu. This team needs more power and there are plenty of people here who think it's not likely to come from Grandal, Moncada or Benintendi and have their doubts about Colas too. It also leaves Anderson and Vaughn who aren't yet 20 HR guys. That leaves the 2 most often injured guys on our team to produce power Eloy and Robert.1 point

Colas has received positive reports in the scouting community about his defensive ability this season. He's someone who can handle CF but someone you probably don't want to depend on as your everyday CF because he doesn't have the speed you'd like your CF to have. He wouldn't be Rob Mackowiak out there. With that being said I wouldn't want to depend on him as the backup CF. Someone needs to be brought in to take care of that. I'd want to let him focus on RF and learning to hit at the ML level.1 point

I am not interested in making a fair comparison trade for Liam. He plays an important role on our team. He is not easily expendable at all. If we trade him at all...it only makes sense if the acquiring team overpays for his services.1 point

Yes, people keep saying this, but I don’t believe the CBA or Boras can drag Cohen into court to enter into a contract that hasn’t been signed/executed, one where the normal process took place (player takes physical, physical reveals issues, contract possibly re-negotiated as a result (the likely scenario here)). Could see Cohen getting fined by The MLB or some other punishment (loss of draft picks) for “free agent tampering” if it comes to that point, though it would be more for revenge on behest of Reinsdorf and his other fellow Angry Tankers than any principle they may hold, as if.1 point

Correct. Which is what a team like the Sox has to do. You can’t count on mediocre drafting, poor player development, and consensus FA evaluation to win you a championship.1 point

The interstates are spotty to bad. There were shutdowns a few times last night. It has quit snowing, but it is blowing pretty badly. Take your time.1 point

The best answer is maybe? Right now if Robert went down for a stretch, presumably you have a 4 man outfield of Hamilton/Reyes/Colas/Benintendi and you figure out based on matchups. Not sure if Colas is survivable there, you can probably live with Benintendi there for a few games but nothing more. No that doesn’t feel like a championship plan.1 point

Leatherstockings golf course if that's your thing. Boat ride on Otesaga Lake is nice also. It's the area written about in James Fenimore Coopers...Last of the Mohicans. Nice trip!1 point

I don’t know if they’re going to go with the replacements they signed, but I’d say that someone who can legitimately fill in as a CF would be quite important as well. Not only do you have to assume Robert will miss some time, but boy it would be nice to be proactive in resting him rather than playing him every day until he winds up with a grade 2 sprain.1 point

That's betting this team's success on Colas making the team and not having typical rookie struggles.1 point

I am sure this is trash like the rest of them, but you are damned right that the Sox should be looking for the moon from the Mets. Asking for top guys in blocked positions is actually a pretty smart strategy to try to get something done too.1 point

We can always trade Liam for fair market value...holding out for overpay is absolutely essential.1 point

Always good to get another viewpoint…but longenhagen gets the least live looks of any of these guys and much less of a scouting network than law. That said if you take the negative on Sox system you are more likely to be right. Yet not sure a Sox fan that follows their prospects will learn anything for his writeups.1 point

I’ll play. Most confident in Eloy as less injury risk as a dh (primarily) and shouldn’t have negative defensive value in equation as opposed to zero as dh. Unfortunately, Grandal has to be my least confident as he is older with natural decline, injuries have maybe caused chronic knee issues (affecting offense and defense) and if comparing to previous avg WAR he has a higher bar to clear. I would be happy with 100 games caught and 2.0 WAR. Prior to last year, he had ten consecutive years with a ops+ over 100.1 point

Looking at the Dbacks again, they are actually a very interesting trade partner. Along with Thomas, Carroll, Varsho and McCarthy already in the majors they also have a pair of interesting 25 year old lefty OF’ers in AAA that they drafted in 2019. Dominic Fletcher- Plus defender in CF who has hit .296/.368/.467 with 32 hrs in 290 games from A-AAA in 2.5 years. Drafted 75th overall out of Arkansas https://www.mlb.com/prospects/dbacks/dominic-fletcher-666150 Dominic Canzone- Sounds like an average LF only(has also played 1B), but his bat is the big selling point. Advancing through every level of the minors in 2.5 years he’s hit .297/.360/.533 with 44 HR’s across 231 games. 8th round pick out of Ohio St https://www.mlb.com/prospects/dbacks/dominic-canzone-686527 Not sure what a potential deal would look like, but it makes sense for the Dbacks to trade the glut of OF depth they have for something else. With TA, Montgomery, and Sosa ahead of him (with Romy as more depth) I wonder what Dbacks OF’er we could get for a guy like Popeye?1 point
