  1. Didn't they figure out this did nothing to shorten games?
    7 points
  2. It should start no earlier than the 13th. Gives teams another turn through the batting order to try to win it the old way.

  3. HATE IT. Absolutely hate that baseball continues to cater to people that don't like baseball.

  4. What I don't understand is if they love this rule so much, how come they don't use it in the playoffs?

  5. I’m in the minority, but I love this rule. I don’t see how it detracts from the game in any way, and it helps to make witnessing the end of games more accessible. I haven’t seen any downsides whatsoever; the only reason to dislike it is to dislike change in general.

  6. The last thing JR was going to do is give the new manager more to play with than he did LaRussa. I'm sure JR wants to win, but I don't think he would be too sad if they were mediocre again, and he can, at least in his own mind, take any of the blame for the team getting mired in mediocrity again, away from Tony.

  7. I'd rather end in ties than continue with this rule

  8. "Pitchers And Catchers Report" will always be the best four words in the English language, and nobody can take that away from me. I'm just going to hope that this group performs the way the 2022 team was supposed to, which would not be all that crazy. I'm also going to take solace in the fact that the small number of fun seasons the Sox have given us in the last 20 years have mostly come on the heels of offseasons that left the fanbase angry or nonplussed about the coming season's prospects. (It's those hype years that kill us.) Go Sox!

  9. I think its purely to avoid the handful of marathon games each season that obviously the players hate, the staff hates, and it ruins pens for weeks. But its rare, and it stupid to ruin all extra inning games for that. Start the rule in the 12th. I could live with that. I guess I "get it", but still hate it.

  10. My argument is they already had 9 innings to win the "old way", and weren't able to

  11. And goes without saying, mahomes is incredible. Mahomes and Reid are unstoppable together. The guy who is one of the best off script qbs in the league also has an offense where 80% of the time he has a receiver he know will be schemed wide open immediately that he can throw it out to. And when it all breaks down he can then scramble and throw for a 60 yard pass. Crazy good team.

  12. “Germans doing things with their arms that dehumanizes a minority is the kind of thing I fully endorse and I’m totally on their side” is certainly a take.

  13. Hopefully never. They have a marketable potential star who has embraced the Southside and its culture moreso than any other player to play here. Pay him and keep him as your face.

  14. In that case, Crochet will never win an arbitration decision.

  15. I am not opposed to ties, conceptually, but as someone who watches a lot of NPB games/has become an invested fan in a team, I can tell you that ties FEEL absolutely terrible every time, to me. I hate them. It makes it feel like the whole game was a waste of time.

  16. Soon to be announced....the first round of the playoffs will be pitcher's hand out....because it's a long season and people are tired.

  17. Then implement a tie....inventing a rule where a guy is put on 2nd is just dumb.

  18. I think the extra inning phantom runner is the dumbest MLB rule in my lifetime.
    1 point
  19. I like it except can the Sox actually move runners over.

  20. I agree that’s the closest thing to a problem. But I guess I feel like it’s natural for varying base running skills and batting order luck to factor into the game situation. Admittedly that’s just a personal feeling, but it just seems to line up with how the game already sort of works — like you’re in an extra inning situation, you have an advantage of the good part of your batting order is up, etc.

  21. why don't we just do it for every inning.....? so dumb.

  22. Sox obviously don't care about any player embracing the southside after not keeping Jose. When they reach a certain age the popular thing is to let the player walk even if he's a fan favorite and a complete stud. I was thinking the other day with Jose gone I don't really have a personal love for any of our players for the first time in a long time. There's usually one or two I will defend til death so to speak. Right now I'd be OK with trading any of them.

  23. Grab a couple cold ones and enjoy it before they f*** the whole thing up ?

  24. The one thing I really hate about it is who gets put on second. It could be a big advantage to some team all because a really fast guy made an out. While I understand extra innings aren't always that equal depending where you are in the line up, it seems odd to reward a team for an out. And if the rule is so great, why don't they include it in the playoffs. Pitching can be even more scarce then.

  25. I agree. No reason to burn a bunch of arms in a long season because of extra innings games especially if you happen to be one of those teams that goes too extra innings often. This isn't the old days when pitchers could throw so many innings. Most relievers are good for only 1 inning these days. You can't be a traditionalist if the game has changed and it has.

  26. Again, look at his FIP vs ERA. He lost almost a run per game due to defense. Teams know how bad the Sox defense is, and how much better their own is. His 2022 FIP was under his career average.

  31. Giolito is either hot or cold and no where near an ace.

  32. The line of suitors for Giolito come July if Sox are sellers will be long. Even if he doesn't really improve on his 2022.

  33. It wasn't a bad move by him, that's not what I meant. It's a good decision when you're that age and coming off an inconsistent start to your career to guarantee yourself money. That also, however, sets up a situation where he has only 1 real legitimate chance to get paid the real big contract. He should do so.

  34. If the season is lost but Giolito is having a good year, I can definitely see them getting something better than a QO for him in a trade.

  35. There was more excitement about the 2018 sox than this team. To be the contrarian, this could be a good thing. Our expectations are so low with the exact same roster that our expectations were so high with last year (obviously sans Abreu). As much as Jerry and offseason leave a terrible taste in my mouth, i suspect many of us will be hook line and sinker by late May in a good way.

  36. Problem is the crap owner did not fire the GM which led to him essentially trotting out the same unlikeable group of players from 2022, so it’s very difficult to shake 2022 and find any reason to back this group as is.

  40. Mike Clevinger has been working on his gum health and can now spit on an infant all the way throughout the scout seats. He believes that by the end of spring training he can clear the dugout from a standing position.

  42. A few players on this team could be called 'The Big Hurt' but only for the amount of time they spend injured.

  43. There's a clearly outlined "Administrative leave" setup they could use, but it does require that they actually finish this up promptly. It does not seem like MLB has any interest in doing so, if they were dealing with this then somehow it doesn't seem like the victim would go so far as to share the photos.
