Man I do not recall Gordon supporters as late as 2013.5 points

I guess I just don't understand the need to immediately get up from something that hurts and possibly do more damage. This rub some dirt on it, get up walk it off macho BS should 've stopped happening a long time ago . Is sports the last bastion of male judgemental bullying of the supposed weak garbage ? We have no right to call anyone soft based on our observations of body language. It's just a biased judgement based on no inside information. We don't share pain receptors or brain function. Concussions used to mean nothing. How is that looking now ? You got your bell rung . You'll be ok .4 points

I think he’s talking about the way he acts after a minor injury. Perhaps “dramatic” is a better word than soft. Sometimes he looks like he got shot in the leg, and it turns out to be more minor than the bruise I got on my thigh when I walked into the corner of my coffee table.3 points

Now we are complaining about hypothetical errors, since we cannot complain about real errors.3 points

My girls team won their third straight tournament and won a season long championship. We start the state playoffs next week. The defending state champs are in our district, were hoping for the second spot which advances to the next round.2 points

The cuban is still the best and easiest. Looks like most of that food is suite level and stadium level. Tuesday evening cuban and two drafts for $20. As Russ taught us, let's roll2 points

Agree…unless you plan on playing Eloy in RF against all LHPs and that seems insane to me. But this is Rick Hahn we’re talking about so who knows.2 points

So Seby and Burger and then two of Romy, Leury, Billy, Marisnick, Haseley I guess? Burger over Sheets is a curious choice, and like I said Burger and Alberto are completely redundant so don't see them both on the roster. I am sure fathom isn't blowing smoke and has heard that, but sort of a I'll believe it when I see it thing on Burger. He makes less sense on this roster than really any of the aforementioned guys, imho. Yeah, at the end of the day hopefully whoever it is doesn't play much. We're debating the very back of the 26 man roster, but such is what you do as we're all anxious for the real games to start... Definitely will be some guys available via waiver claims over the next week.2 points

Been catching up on stuff, totally obsessed with Yellowjackets. Second season starts this weekend.2 points

I feel like they can do anything with that spot and it feels like a waste honestly. None of the 4th OF NRIs played well enough to earn the spot (besides Haseley). A "real" 4th OF is something I thought would be a slam dunk for this roster. Now it's kind of Leury/Eloy getting time in the OF instead and then having an extra bench spot. Edit: we'll see how it shakes out by OD but I still think they add a real OF (no info, just a feeling as guys get cut or opt out of minor league deals towards the end of camp).2 points

He’s exactly the problem at that salary and 625ish OPS and lack of payroll flexibility attached to him. He, Grandal, Jimenez, Robert, Benintendi and TA7 have to produce with how much they’re making. There’s no way around that harsh reality.2 points

I gotta tell ya...this was awesome. I also can't remember the last time baseball fans were like "THIS IS AWESOME YOU GOTTA SEE THIS" and not "Yeah well it's an acquired taste"2 points

The Sox fan base is toxic as hell, as evidenced by Caulfield's heel turn when being as negative as possible became the cool thing to do.2 points

Just to get the record straight since people love to glom onto me calling Moncada “soft” the other day. I am a Moncada supporter. Probably one of the bigger ones around here. You’ll rarely see me badmouth his actual play on the field. He absolutely should play damn near everyday and still has a good bit of upside. His defense gives him a nice floor. He is without a doubt the best option at 3B for the next two seasons while his contract is guaranteed and at the moment there isn’t anyone particularly close. Certainly the folks that think Burger should play over him are nuts. None of that excludes Moncada from being soft. I mean, we’ve been watching the guy for 6 seasons now. He acts like he sustains a serious injury every couple weeks. That’s just who he is. I call it soft, others may term it something else. None of it is a reflection of his talent. Here is to Yoan staying healthy and living up to his potential in 2023; I know it’s in there.2 points

Moncada hit .435 in the WBC, with a ton of power, and that was met with silence. Which is fine. But then someone collides with him in the outfield which somehow means it's time to start taking shots at him again. I don't get it.2 points

I’d wager large sums of money that Sheets makes the OD roster. Our biggest weakness has been hitting RHP and they will want to use him to give Eloy & Vaughn breaks at times. He’s also a viable pinch hitting option for Andrus & Seby late in games. I don’t like the fact that they’ll use him in the OF way more than he should, but having a LH power bat on the bench is important and Haseley is not a real option despite a nice spring.1 point

Sox with four starters on the All Wuss squad a new record. No worries about PT for the 4A guys.1 point
-
Only way I can get behind that is if they decide to bring both Burger and Sheets for a couple of weeks, meaning they want the extra year of Colas. Doesn’t seem likely though. Not enough at bats for Sheets or Burger here and if you actually need them, it means someone is hurt anyway.1 point

Yeah, meant Seby, said Romy. I think Romy has earned a spot....in Charlotte.1 point

Soft implies weakness, or a lack of toughness. It’s such a masculine tough guy word used in this context, one that should really be excised from usage. No one really knows how hard Moncada works, or his pain tolerance. Some athletes can play through pain better than others. Baseball is a grind, and to play everyday, banged up, sore, and to do it again and again is anything but soft. Moncada is definitely dramatic when dealing with pain and injury. But that doesn’t make him “soft”.1 point

My son called me to make sure I was watching. The last time I remember doing that was calling my uncle during the 86 Masters1 point

Seby, Sheets, Alberto and Leury is my guess. This will result in Eloy/Sheets playing way more OF than we’d all like.1 point

Lol this isn’t complicated. Perhaps you should watch closer. The WBC incident is the latest in a long list of examples. He’s almost always fine; almost always looks/acts like it’ll be a season altering injury.1 point

Soxtalk circa Gordon upon call-up in 2009: Hall of famer Soxtalk circa Gordon 2010: He just got jerked around! You can't expect someone who played shortstop to handle...second base or something! Soxtalk circa Gordon 2011: Gordon can't handle the majors mentally Soxtalk circa Gordon 2012: DFA Gordon Soxtalk circa Gordon 2013: DFA Gordon Soxtalk circa Gordon 2014: I am so glad we traded Gordon Soxtalk circa Gordon 2015: You know...Gordon might be the best player on this miserable, miserable team. He plays a pretty nice 3rd base!1 point

He’s pretty cool. Raw because of his army commitments, but you see him on the field and can’t help but be intrigued. He was rumored as a second round pick but he’s definitely a guy that could be a much later pick. Could be years before he’s productive.1 point

The Athletic today had a story basically echoing your comments that even a "minor" injury given their histories and what happened to the team last year gives fans cause for concern. Eloy has made it clear publicly on numerous occasions he hates being a DH and the Sox attempt to keep him happy and engaged may have something to do with why he is playing some outfield.1 point

No one here has any real idea how these guys are going to hit this year. Grandal went from the best hitter on the team in 2021 (155 OPS+) to its worst regular in 2022 (64 OPS+). Moncada went from a 116 OPS+ to a 76 OPS+ Luis Robert went from 154 OPS+ to 109 OPS+ Eloy went from 99 OPS+ to leading the team with 140 OPS+ Elvis Andrus was the Sox' 3rd best hitter while he was with the team at 116 OPS+ Andrew Vaughn elevated from 91 OPS to 111 OPS+. Tim Anderson only played 79 games. ********* That being said, if you project each player to be the best version of themselves, here's the order I would use: 1. Anderson. Still the sparkplug of the team. 2. Robert. Biggest upside of anyone. Speed should put him near the top. 3. Moncada. His best version is better than Benitendi. 4. Eloy. The HR masher. 5. Benintendi. Gets on base for Vaughn. 6. Vaughn. Key RBI spot 7. Colas. Lefty could move up if he mashes. 8. Grandal/Zavala. Grandal might deserve to be higher, but plays the least. 9. Andrus. Need him to reprise last year's numbers for the Sox1 point

Considering Colas cost himself a year waiting to sign with the Sox, I think you have to give him the job if he is deemed ready. Between that and covid, this is a guy who under different circumstances may have been in the majors a year or two ago. He made it, albeit briefly, all the way to the major NPB league at, what, nineteen? This guy is a major league player already most likely. Sox ought to break from the norm and stop dicking around. Send a message to the team they are looking to win from day one.1 point

Probably just focusing on a return helps Liam cope better with the whole treatment for cancer. Whenever he comes back or even is he doesn't, I just hope he is healthy in himself.0 points
