  1. Tex why are you trying to validate his firing? This sucks

  2. On June 9th I was charged a full years worth for an Athletic subscription. I was able to get them to completely refund me. They claimed to understand my frustration, but didn't even really put up much of a fight and only offered me a discount to continue the rest of the year. I obviously took the refund and cancelation instead. If anyone is in the same boat, reach out and get your money back.

  3. Sorry. I work my ass off at a dangerous job for a fraction of the paycheck they bring home. If I'm going to spend my hard earned money to go to a ballpark, pay exorbitant prices, and watch a game I'd give my left arm to play for a living, then I expect effort. Not jogging on ground balls, not sloppy lazy mistakes, not lethargic overall play and mentally lazy at bats, not flipping off fans. If this team was busting its ass constantly and still failing I'd stand and have their backs every time. The effort put forth by a good chunk of these players on this team is disrespectful to fans like me and kids in the stands as far as I'm concerned, so we have every right to expect better. I don't think it's too much to ask of grown men playing a child's game for millions of dollars. They don't want an angry crowd, do better.

  4. Burger the only person worth watching on this damn roster

  5. I will say, even after criticizing ESPN, Kurkijan has already given more new insight on this team than we have gotten in a while.

  7. The pirates are a tiny market. The people who fired James have very likely never read a single piece he wrote and could not pick him out in a crowd of 2. He was cut based primarily on engagement which is absolutely team driven.

  8. I feel for the guy. It can't be easy keeping track of all those birthdays. How can he play baseball AND juggle two families?!

  9. Oh that’s already happening, this set of cuts was the shot across the brow to all of them. All of the big names will get their money though, for sure

  10. For the first time in my life when I was at a White Sox game in person here in LA… I found myself heckling our players. Since I was closest to third base, Yoan got an ear full. ?

  11. I don’t even necessarily disagree with the overall point of your whole post, but I always laugh when the kid’s game line is used. It almost always feels like it goes against the overall point trying to be made. ”I’m booing because I paid a lot of hard earned money to watch them play this relatively insignificant children’s game and they’re not playing it right.” We talk about kids looking up to professional athletes, we talk about professional sports being a business, but then in the same breath we downplay its importance by calling it a child’s game. Again, I feel what you’re saying overall, but I just find it all kind of amusing. If anything, it just illustrates the weird complexities involved with being a sports fan.

  12. Because replacing a beat writer midseason doesn't work very well, really makes the other person look bad, and Fegan would need to work on his contacts with other teams. And maybe they did, but perhaps he doesn't want to relocate. If he's one of the worst beat writers on the staff, everyone else is beyond outstanding. This guy is really good. I would say the best beat writer the Sox have had in a long time, and they have had several real good ones.

  14. TA knocks up some woman whose line of work is social media "influencer". How stupid is he to now be complaining his business is on social media? Just another case of not being accountable. I loved the guy. Now, I've had about enough.

  23. Even if the team was/is bad, many appreciated James' in game and pre/post twitter reporting. While I was a subscriber, I really enjoyed his in depth features on players and other aspects of the team you weren't going to get with the weak Chicago (tv, radio, print) or in-house media.

  24. Giolito isn’t the guy who is going to come out and say he wants to leave. In my opinion they pissed away any chance of extending him when they argued with him in arbitration over what was it again 50k?

  25. Giolito made it clear on numerous occasions that he is/was willing to sign an extension to stay here. If he ends up leaving, that's entirely on Jerry for not paying up.

  27. Tex, honestly, what point are you trying to make in this thread? Fegan wrote good articles and properly covered the team. He lost his job and a lot of Sox fans are rightfully annoyed. Long form drivel driven rants on this board are obviously not a replacement for good coverage of a team. Do we need Jim Bowden's constant brain droppings sent as push alerts? Not really, but, that'll drive traffic because it's tagged as "former GM previews the trade deadline!" and then it's 10 completely asinine proposals from Bowden that won't get made in a million years. Like, if you want to be that nihilistic, we can just say "what is the point of hiring broadcasters? To narrate shitty baseball?"

  29. Aside from feeling bad for James in all of this, its a loss of the only real, constant coverage of the team that wasn't state media

  30. What a said day for White Sox fans and mankind. I followed each of his rehab games, and it doesn't appear he can hit anymore. Billy was one of if not the most likeable guys on the 2021 and 2023 White Sox, and I will appreciate his efforts on behalf of the Sox. Wherever he ends up, either retirement or one of the other 29 MLB organizations, I wish him all the happiness and success down the road.

  31. I never viewed him as a leadoff hitter and thought it stagnated the offense. Yet another flaw of the White Sox organization. putting players in a position that they think works but in reality are not well thought out. He will play SS and bat leadoff all year and then when they don't pick up the option will they then realize that they should have addressed this much sooner. The organization is a complete dumpster fire because Rick Hahn is fucking imbecile and KW is living on a lighting in a bottle season.

  32. Something isn't unsustainable when you are doing it for 3-4 years straight. Anyways, at least 2 major ad campaigns have been launched off his back and even this year MLB is still featuring him in national commercials, so some people must find him exciting regardless of everything.

  35. Outside of Pittsburgh , there are very few people who give a rat's ass about Pirate news. They have no superstars. They don't generate interest. Just like the White Sox. Win/Loss record doesn't matter as much as interest, although the White Sox are one team that W/L is a good barometer of the interest.

  36. Nah all I’m reading is you saying “yes I see why the company did this” without acknowledging that this company’s original mission statement was to provide coverage exactly like Fegan was doing. This s%*# absolutely sucks ass and we are in here like “yea well nobody watches them and look they are reassigning other writers too”. What does rosenthal even provide anymore? Puff pieces. Bullshit. He gets to announce trades that he certainly wasn’t the source for. s%*# that probably comes from Fegan himself, and we accept the corporate reasons for letting Fegan go. we are losing our print media piece by piece and convincing ourselves it’s right

  37. I really doubt his salary, considering his previous employment, was significant enough to be a deciding factor in his layoff. The guy got laid off because he covered a team not many people care to read about.

  41. Jimenez was hammering the ball In bp today. Him and Burger were two guys I saw who showed easy power. Sheets is warning track power in bp. I didn’t see Roberts take bp, but presume he also has plenty of power. Yoan should be traded if they can. Don’t care how good his d is. I give up on him. He will crush it when he goes to a good org but it ain’t happening with Sox.

  42. Sox back in the tank, what's that three in a row? Team is so soft/uncompetitive. White Sox lose a tough game and go back to being patsies. Three in a row and counting. Sox are such a bad road team; .500ish at home. Should be interesting to see how long this losing streak will be. We diehards are such dummies.

  43. As someone here said earlier, these guys look poised to go on another long losing streak. They are absolutely lifeless.

Of course nobody would give half a s%*# about his off field issues if he was still hitting 300/330/480 and playing 145 games a year. He wants it to be one way, but it's the other.
