  1. The Chicago area will not be getting a new mlb franchise if the Sox move to Nashville. The Cubs can and would veto it with the (is it 250 miles) rule. Also, as someone who has been a longtime reader of this site whom just started posting I like to say to supposedly sox fans who want them to move to Nashville…..go to hell and move with them. My family has been Sox fans for four generations. It’s so easy to spot Cub fans posing as Sox fans.

  2. It’s an incredibly stupid rule. I’d rather have my players comfortable than forcing them to conform because of an ancient team tradition.

  3. Had to bump this as it fell all the way to page 3, which quite frankly is unacceptable IMO.

  4. Outside of some of the basics (reworking streets, etc), I am opposed to further substantial amounts of taxpayer money going to support Jerry Reinsdorf's family and the other owners. They took the city and state to the cleaners in the last deal. Under no circumstances should the city of Chicago fund a new stadium for this billionaire. He can absolutely pay for it himself. It's the third largest city and media market in the country, this should absolutely be profitable for him. If he can't make it profitable, then he should sell to someone who can or go bankrupt.

  5. There’s no other ownership group that is both (1) willing to dip into the top 5-10 total payroll range relatively frequently and (2) not willing to spend even half of what the going rate is for a single star free agent. It makes so little sense it’s practically impossible that the next group would handicap itself in the same way.

  6. He doesn't believe in spending in the right areas. If you want proof of that, compare the size of the White Sox scouting department to other MLB teams, or compare their spending on minor league wellness and development to other teams. Both are dead last or close, and these are areas where spending a fraction of a MLB payroll (think like 10%) could make massive competitive advantage differences. If he truly was just cheap, he would pump money into those things. But it's not that he's just cheap, he's cheap and stubborn to the point that he only wants to win if it's his way. Unfortunately for us, "his way" doesn't work in the modern MLB.

  7. I think most of the folks on here saying they don't care if the Sox move aren't secret Cubs fans. We're all sick and tired of this team, more specifically the owner, jerking us around year in and year out. Most of the vitriol is just venting. There are very few of us who would be okay with the Sox moving. We're going to be miserable without a team to cheer for. We'd rather be miserable with a team to piss us off.

  8. The devil we know is an owner who has provided only 7 playoff appearances and one World Series appearance in 42 years of ownership. An owner who has outright threatened to move previously and appears to be teasing the same tricks again now. An owner who has never signed a superstar to a $100 million contract. An owner who is an aggressive antagonist of the players union and wants to suppress player salaries and "win" that fight, instead of winning actual championships. The fanbase is so down right now that I don't believe any potential future owner could make people any more apathetic than they currently are. My friends and I are in our 40's and have never been this bitter and disinterested in this team. We typically plan a weekend trip out of town to visit a new ballpark where the Sox play and this was the first season we skipped that option. At this point, I think any change would be better than the feeling of helplessness that fans have. If a new owner comes in and moves the team? At least, Sox fans can move on instead of being stuck in some sort of weird limbo with an owner who openly antagonizes them and does not try to run the team like a 21st century franchise.

  9. While the bulls offense is definitely worse without Lavine, it's made way for players that actually seem to care and lo and behold. I'm just done and wish we could get rid of him, but also we need to get something for him. Separately - For my son's fifth birthday I was able to secure floor seats to last nights game. This is the second time now I've been able to do so. I had actually never sat 100 level for bulls games until I was mid 30s, and this has been insane. It is so wild to be that close. My son had so much fun, we made the big screen/also tv, benny the bull patted his head and pointed to him, the players chatted toward him (continue to be amazed how nice pro athletes are at these games despite the intensity) Anyway here is the key: You should target games that may work for your schedule, but you won't be able to really buy ahead. You target shitty opponents during a weeknight. It won't work everytime, but I've now been able to take two of my kids to dates where we found extremely cheap floor seats. I've been able to buy both day before, so you don't necessarily need to wait same day but I'm sure it's even better. The floor seats are just behind the courtside ones, and 4-5x cheaper, but very similar experience. Free drinks, food service like on lexus section. I actually can't imagine how fun it would be with other adults, but these were the dream-come-true type games with your kids. He's been obsessed with the intro for months and you think he's barely soaking it in only to find out on the car ride home he basically recited the entire starting lineup. The first time I did this we were behind visitor bench, which was fun in a "get to hear the interactions" but the downside is they are 7 feet tall. This was on opposite side and so much better. Easy to appreciate Caruso's game on TV, but unbelievable to see so close. Great night!

  10. Real Sox fans don’t want them to move. Anyone who claims they are a Sox fan but don’t care if the leave Illinois should cease following them completely and move on.

  11. Considering the Reds have De La Cruz, Marte, Encarnacion-Strand, McLain, India, and Barrero - you have to imagine someone is getting dangled as a trade piece. Obvious candidate is India, but still feels worth noting.

  13. I see zero reason to think that giving Jerry Reinsdorf money translates to wins. In fact it is the opposite. Since 2012 attendance has been so low that he triggered one of his amazing clauses with his landlords that dramatically drops the fee he pays to the state. Did this extra money enable him to increase payroll and get better, pushing attendance back up? Naw not at all, instead he used it as a way to have no pressure to fill the stadium. His fees are low when no one comes, so he can employ an endless line of underqualified yes men and sycophants, and let the entire experience deteriorate for everyone. This has gone on for more than 10 years, so clearly it isn’t helping the fans or creating an experience people want. And hell, go back farther - he had such a secure revenue stream from his ballpark and parking lots and such low fees that he led the owners in violating federal labor law during the strike of 1994 to try to break the union rather than negotiating in good faith, costing the best White Sox team of that decade a chance at the playoff birth they would have gotten (and maybe spoiling one of the best World Series ever as I still want to watch those Sox against the Expos). They gave him all this money and the lack of pressure to create revenue allowed him to become a bottom feeder, a leech. He doesn’t have to win, he has very low ballpark fees and can endure on revenue sharing dollars, so he doesn’t have to interview outside GMs or listen to anyone who doesn’t tell him how great he is. Maybe trickle down wins isn’t a working political philosophy, instead it has left him to trickle down on the fans.

  14. It's 2024, not 1954. It is an incredibly stupid rule and always has been. Baseball is an international game that attracts players from all over the world. Requiring men from other nationalities and cultures to adhere to an antiquated "clean cut" standard is problematic to say the least.

  16. Embittered Sox fans aren’t simply going to latch onto a suburban expansion team. It’s not that simple. But trolling Sox fans is his schtick now, no matter how often his bullshit is debunked.

  18. If you are Nashville, why would you want Jerry Reinsdorf? He's a proven failure. His only specialty is ripping off local governments, therefore, taxpayers. His teams suck. He doesn't ever really go for it. Everything is 20th century. Give me an expansion team over him 100 time over 100. They will win sooner than he will.

  20. Bull.s%*#. Every year, teams consistently spend less and far out pace the White Sox, and in many cases it’s the same organizations consistently (Brewers, Twins, Indians, etc) Money/Payroll is far from the only issue with Jerry. It’s how he runs this organization.

  21. I understand why it's there (Steinbrenner's military school background). The other way to look at it is that you know the players either: a) REALLY want to get paid the big bucks and are willing to shave their faces to do it or b) are willing to make this "sacrifice to join the team; therefore, there's a certain level of buy-in that is already established and ingrained into the clubhouse culture. Is it dumb? Maybe. But I can at least see some of the logic behind it.

  26. I also heard a clip where Pedro praised the Diamondbacks, alluding to their postseason success and wanting the Sox to be faster, more athletic, etc like they are. The same Diamondbacks that lost the World Series because they didn't have enough offensive firepower. The same Diamondbacks that have recognized that and already traded for Eugenio Suarez. It's amazing how this organization is consistently steps behind. Next offseason, after they average 2.5 runs/game with a bunch of scrappy athletic guys, they'll talk about how they need more slugging, plate discipline and on base skills because that's how teams in the playoffs succeeded.

  27. Yup. And essentially he'd rather fail the "right" way than succeed the "wrong" way. Cool stuff.

  28. I don’t doubt that this all plays into it. I’ve heard that quote a few times and it makes perfect sense, and shows just how disconnected he is from the realities of modern baseball. The way the Royals won is the outlier, not the blueprint. At least not one any sensible baseball executive would follow. The business environment JR wants to thrive in doesn’t exist, yet his myopic insistence that their way is the right way keeps him from finding regular postseason success. It’s all so maddening. And we the customer are held hostage by the continual backwards thinking that cripples this team year in and year out.

  29. These are the packages I would accept from teams that are interested in Cease: Reds: Lowder, Petty, Jorge, Starla (I loved this ask from Getz) Braves: Kelenic, Grissom, AJSS, and Waldrep Orioles: Cowser/Kjerstad, Mayo, Beavers Dodgers: Rushing, Pages, De Paula, and Bruns

  30. Lowder is a stud. Him and Petty in the same deal ++ would be a great Cease trade.

  32. Yeah, this is the main reason the Orioles basically need to unload prospects that aren't named Jackson Holliday. They have young guys succeeding at the major league level blocking AAA prospects. They need major league pitching. They run the risk of those AAA prospects losing value as they get older / could begin to show flaws. The Yankees are flexing, the Red Sox also have a stacked system, the Rays are the Rays, and the Blue Jays have fat wads of cash. If the Orioles aren't gonna spend, they can't prospect hug unless they're convinced Hall and Cowser are gonna be aces.

  33. Ortiz is not good enough to be the centerpiece for Cease.

  34. I wouldn't expect either to be top 100, but regardless we only have two 60 prospects in that top ten, and the rest are going to be in that mix of 55s. The write-up of Quero was favorable, but there's just not a lot of impact in our system outside top two. All the type of input we've not really heard from any of our catcher prospects so great news. also, why we continue to stan for Ramos:

  35. No one has been better about trading their hyped prospects and keeping their valuable ones than Cashman. That said, the yankees are just going to be again an extremely weird team.

  36. Several of the Orioles top prospects are relatively old and they may be wise to cash in on them Joey Ortiz is blocked and turns 26 this summer Kjerstad turns 25 in February McDermott turns 26 in August The Orioles are a starting pitcher injury or two away from having a disaster on their hands as minor league pitching depth is pretty thin

  43. Honestly, I would welcome a Sox move. Get the stink of this loser franchise out of the city. Chicago can absolutely host two baseball teams, so MLB would almost certainly put a new franchise there, with a new owner. If Reinsdorf doesn't die anytime soon this is the next best option to get rid of him.

  45. Really feels like the Athletics 2.0. Alienate the fanbase as much as possible. - don’t sign superstar (manny/harper), but spend money on garbage to show they “tried” -hire TLR and promote based on nepotism -minor league coaches scandal -don’t develop minor leagues -stay in traditional thinking, don’t hire analytics -cancel fan events because f*** them -trade away fan favorites -hire kiss ass bad coaching -gun scandal -blame fans, threaten move -reinsdorf quotes on how to get second place -“let” benetti go -tell fans they are stupid and we will compete with a 100+ loss team -blame fans more, threaten move im sure I’m missing some, but they are alienating fans on purpose
