Pro Tip: Start reading Sports Guy's posts as if he actually is Elias and is just talking in third person. It at least makes the thread more entertaining.10 points

If this were the Machado thread and we still had fun with the titles, the current title would be: Cease Rumor Thread: Mets Enter Talks, Hold the Mayo, Enter for Real Estate Advice10 points

I think this is a good time for me to point out that I am a real estate attorney and if you have any needs in that area, please reach out.9 points

If we don't trade with Baltimore does that mean our resident Baltimore fans go away? If so I'm liking the New York teams ideas alot more.8 points

I hope he goes to the Red Sox or Yankees, starts and dominates in the season ending game for the Orioles, then we can ask their fans about his 2023 ERA again and how they are enjoying their prospects.8 points

The Mariners like the Orioles were always a nonfactor. It's betwwen the Yankees and Mets.7 points

Nothing more productive in life than hopping on a message board to call out others for being unproductive6 points

The good news is that I think whatever fan base gets Cease, they’re seemingly going to be pissed off at the cost.6 points

I think my problem with it is that we have come full circle and they are going to try and sell the same half ass bullshit. Why should any of us invest with Getz? im just waiting til JR is pushing up daisies because it not fun. None of this is fun, we all have spent years on this site arguing celebrating discussing planning reacting and it means absolutely nothing because Jerry doesn’t care to win, and that bleeds through the organization. im not gonna sit here and tell people not to do all the stuff we have been doing for years, but I think at least in this season it ok for us to be like “you know what? f*** them. I did my part, I spent my money, they not only let me down but they embarrassed themselves and everyone with them along the way”6 points

17+ pages of posts today and absolutely nothing has happened. Never change, SoxTalk.5 points

It's going to be comical when Cease goes elsewhere for a ransom and all these O's fans wasted 6 weeks of their life accumulating hundreds of know-it-all posts on a White Sox message board. Only to become more comical when the O's pitching is terrible in 2024.5 points

I can’t state this enough….other teams know the Sox culture and defense was garbage. It’s a big reason we saw Lynn and Giolito bring back better than expected packages.5 points

To be fair, if we are going to go with fWAR, it has both the indomitable Kyle Bradish and the Boy Wonder Grayson Rodriguez as sub 3 fWAR pitchers in 2024 too. So from my vantage point, you're up s%*# creek without a paddle and you will need to pay a significant prospect price for SP, whether it's Cease or someone else. There's no way around it, unless you're fine with significant regression from last year.5 points

I think that’s why the Baltimore posters are so eager to trade Ortiz because his value will continue to get dinged the longer he stays in the minors at age 26-27.4 points

This is like going to another team's subreddit and constantly telling them how they're wrong. He would have been banned a long time ago in that situation. It would have been amusing for the first time or 2, but not when he's one of the top posters in a 180 page thread. Also there's having a friendly convo about this and then there's telling people they're stupid for having a different opinion. You don't go on another team's board and do that.4 points

Why do you guys care about the opinions of someone who has this much time to spend on other teams message boards? It was fine for a bit, but it’s gotten old. Just ignore him.4 points

I’m hoping the Yankees drop Getz the nut for Cease, Sports Guy slinks away quietly, and the Yankees obliterate the Orioles in 2024. Yes, this Orioles fan has made me want to root for the Yankees.4 points

I wonder if acquiring Jett Williams could fill the Madrigal sized hole in @poppysox's heart.4 points

But this doesn’t matter. I was told that there is no difference between 5 teams being interested in a player and only 2. The return will not be impacted whatsoever.4 points

Also, Dylan Cease now leads the league in swords. I don't see Coby Mayo leading the league in...shields...or something.4 points

And I'm wondering if the definition of "good" has changed. It seems our Baltimore friends are using good to mean barely adequate. We're all acting like GMs bank on a pitcher having a Cy Young season, and are sadly surprised when they don't. A player has a floor and a ceiling. Cease's ceiling is a CY contender. His floor is an above-average durable innings eater, one whose projections put him at the front of Baltimore's rotation. Seriously, if we're so stuck on the most recent season as the harbinger going forward, I'm not sure why the Orioles aren't signing Blake Snell, because he will surely win the Cy Young every season going forward, since he just won one.4 points

And yet Cease’s 2024 fWAR projection is tied for the highest of any Orioles pitcher. Since you already have a good pitching staff according to you, I guess that’s pretty good?4 points

I do feel the need to point out that amidst all these discussions, the White Sox have five former top 10 prospects, including two #1s, in their starting lineup next year. Can't miss prospect means nothing to us.3 points

Mayo is a "premium prospect" with "4+ WAR upside", yet Cease a question mark after averaging 4.2 WAR the past three seasons under cheap control for 2 seasons in a market in which mediocre and injury prone SPs are getting $14M+ AAV. This is why no one takes you seriously.3 points

Everyone is sort of saying the same thing, and it's what I was also saying last night. If Poles believes one of Williams or Maye could be a true franchise QB, and if he's right....then it's absolutely the right call to draft one of them at No. 1. The team as currently constructed, today, is probably an 8-9 win team next year. If you trade the No. 1 overall, given the salary cap the Bears have, plus draft capital, 10 wins seems very possible next year WITH Fields and this current group. But that still comes with the limitations Fields brings on the field, as well as him being in Year 4 of his contract. I see both sides and will accept either path, because these are not bad problems to have.3 points

That's their choice. It's good to know that you are that closely tied to the team and their inner circle.3 points

Yes because the original offer of the 2 @500k may have been at 400 k and they had to raise it to compete. You are treating the negotiations like each team had one offer and only one offer. That's not reality. The current package from each team is changing and the offers today will not be the same as tomorrow. More teams in, the more competition. If the Yankees sign snell the offers may go down as there is less competition.3 points

Truly, this video has never been more relevant, specifically at 30 seconds. (To our Orioles friends, Baltimore is cool, this video is just an internet classic)3 points

Do we want Mayo? I wouldn’t be thrilled with that outcome, personally. I think he’s going to mash but he’s a RHH 1B. I’m just not that interested in another righty corner player.3 points

Some positives on Getz so far: 1. He hasn’t done anything Hahn-awful. No trades for Salvador Perez. No big contracts. No “we are one player away” moves on a team no where close. Hahn always messed this up, never understood where his franchise was and thus even if he made good moves they cost him too much in the end. 2. Hard to complain about the specific front office people he’s brought in. Negatives or matters for concern: 1. The entire Jerry Reinsdorf press conference debacle. It showed a man completely out of touch and out of control with a GM who was unwilling or unable to step in. The “win soon” declarations, the CBA violation, none of this was acceptable and it was all a terrible sign for the organization. Not only did Getz not have the power to stop it, but he clearly did not have any understanding with Reinsdorf beforehand about things that needed fixed or changed - if Getz can’t control a press conference how is he going to react when the owner insists on drafting a college 1b rather than a high school pitcher? 2. Although the people he’s brought in are decent I’ve seen no sign that the organizational chaos has been resolved. They haven’t expanded their front office staff which was too small by a factor of at least two. Some problematic people are still here, just in different roles. There are signs that people in management positions don’t understand their jobs - your organizational number 2 person should not be talking about personally working with pitchers, he should have way too many other duties. There are numerous signs that the “yes man” culture is as bad or even worse - Benetti, Soxfest, the kind of fawning public statements we have gotten throughout the offseason, LaRussa somehow being an influence, the Nashville articles, Nightengale still having a role. Credit where it is due for not immediately screwing up like Hahn. But lots of reasons for skepticism.3 points

"I can't think of another example of a fan base which invested in a team for six years and were given jack s%*# in return." "What you guys have been subjected to over the past decade, the extreme tease and the pain that comes from that tease afterward. I think it's unparalleled in baseball." "I think judging somebody by his transactions in a year where he's (Getz) starting what may not be a tank, but may very well be a tank, is a very, very bad way to judge a President of Baseball Operations or a General Manager. I think you need to give him time before you render an opinion on his moves." - Jeff Passan 1/4/243 points
