I just got a text from the White Sox reminding me they are undefeated and letting me know Saturday would be a good time to get to the ballpark. I rip them plenty, but I thought this was really good, and if I didn't have something else going on, I probably would have done what they wanted.4 points

It’s really early, but I think the manager change will prove to be massive. Grifol was such a fucking joke of a leader that anyone would have been an upgrade, but I kind of think Venable is the real deal (again, I bit ridiculous to make claims after one game I get it). I just think Will is what you look for in a major league manager: leader of men, former player, up-to-date on analytics and modern in-game strategies, still young enough to resonate with today’s players, willing to work with the front office, etc.4 points

Avg EV in the opener of 100.1. Max 106.4. I think getting him off 3B is going to help his ABs. As much as we say pros shouldn't take their defense up to the plate it's easier said than done. He's not a great 2B buy any measure but he's not unplayable like he was at 3rd.3 points

Adisyn Coffey definitely looks like he could pitch in mlb. Maybe not a closer, but it’s good stuff and he throws strikes.3 points

His first win as manager…let them celebrate. Darker days ahead so enjoy the ones you can.3 points

The lineup yesterday made sense. The platoon deployment of Sosa and Slater made sense and worked out. The moves to the pen made sense. They’re not going to win many games but I’m expecting a professional baseball team and a manager who knows how to use his roster.3 points

Miquel Vargas should be the 1B. I’m really surprised they kept Vaughn. I’d honestly rather see someone like Rizzo or Tellez there3 points

Fans were generally shocked to see the first Opening Day win in 11 years. Lots of high fives among fans when Benintendi iced the game with that 3 run home run. We went to Bulls game after and that was epic. It will be a tough season for the Sox but that win meant a lot to me personally.3 points

We really don’t need more infielders unless it’s a dude that can play SS. Vargas & Sosa need a ton of run-way this year. Both can factor in at DH, but even then you got Meidroth & Baldwin as dudes who will need significant playing time and should be a big part of the 2B & 3B mix. Ramos hopefully should be pushing for time at 3B at some point as well. Throw in Rojas when he comes back and we are packed at those two spots and will already need to clear one 40 man roster spot to make room Chase. Point is any upgrades over Amaya & Maton is almost guaranteed to be short-term and the juice won’t be worth the squeeze. Canario is the far more interesting play because we lack compelling young OFs that could be push for playing time at any point this season. I don’t really have a great grasp on waiver wire strategy and when’s the best time to try to sneak someone through. However, the reality is that we have a spot to give right now in Jankowski and should at least claim Canario and then attempt to pass him through to Charlotte whenever Tauchman is about to come back. There is zero downside to doing this.3 points

While I would be fine claiming Canario, the guy would just K 40% of the time. I do look forward to the threads posted here in a few weeks when he hits a homer and someone takes a victory lap.2 points

With yesterday's tribute to Bill Melton before the broadcast it reminded me that I saw where former Sox broadcaster Bill Mercer passed away a few days ago at the age of 98. He was a broadcasting staple in Texas for decades including doing the Cowboys and Rangers when they first moved from Washington D.C. but he worked with Harry Caray on Sox broadcasts in the early 1970's. He had a good sense of humor. Had the chance to do a long interview with him in 2010. Bill didn't just do sports, he was on the scene for the JFK assassination in 1963 and was the reporter who told Oswald he was being officially charged with his murder.2 points

Why did SoxTalk turn into an Alexander Canario themed message board? How good is this guy that there are 3 threads during opening week devoted to talking about him?2 points

Lured Slater? Guys like Slater aren't getting promises in free agency, they're just thrilled to get a call.2 points

Doesn’t the player have to have over 5 years of service time to refuse the assignment and opt for free agency? These damn rules get so hard to remember…2 points

having some fun with it and at least pretending to be in on the joke rather than the butt of it is smart marketing imo from the Sox. Last year with the 1-9 start or whatever being outscored a billion to zero we had an storm cloud over us the entire season. baby steps.2 points

It would be very disappointing if they pass on claiming him. I wouldn't trade for him, but if its a free acquisition and the only requirement is to DFA Jankowski, you do it.2 points

What they did is a tradition for when a manager gets his first win. Grifol got it, too. So have other managers from other teams.2 points
-
I would give up cash, but Uncle Jerry may not feel the same. I wouldn’t trade an actual prospect though.2 points

They blew 36 saves in 55 opportunities. By far the worst rate in MLB.2 points

Vaughn is one dude on this offense I’m willing to cut bait on. I just don’t believe he will ever put it together, even if a new hitting coordinator in Fuller.2 points

Agreed. She seems to know what she is doing. But let’s be honest — if she was the female version of Garfien, she wouldn’t have the job. 🤣2 points

If they don't put in a claim for Canario it certainly won't be the end of the world. This roster isn't set in stone. They're gonna churn it all season. Guys will be coming up and guys will be moving out. They were close to two trades the last week of spring training which tells me it won't be long before both are executed.2 points

I'd understand this argument if this was her first job or something, but she is pretty decorated before working for the White Sox. It's not like she got this job JUST because her dad played here/she is related to Gordon Beckham.2 points

Don't want to overemphasize this because it was one win and the Angels are a terrible team. But the manner in which the win happened definitley felt like a statement win. Not saying this team is likely going to make the playoffs but it definitley felt like a statement of intent that this team will be worth taking seriously, even if they end up well below .500.2 points

Use them on who, exactly? Cal Mitchell? Veras? Terrell Tatum? There's just no even marginal MLB talent at Charlotte and likely Birmingham as well. Alexander Canario would automatically become their best outfield prospect (all the way down to A ball) if he's claimed/traded for. The very best option RIGHT NOW if you want a young outfield is probably transitioning Brooks Baldwin to the outfield.1 point

Every time I sit there, there is a fight. There is way too much drinking, hormones and roid raging going on in that section😂 Konerko Getz Kuntz! That’s what I noticed too. The pitching was great and they executed today. Play fundamental ball and make some plays and this team could go over 53.5 wins.1 point

Dang, there is another with the same number. That's great Congratulations!1 point

Haven't seen this many fights in the bleachers in a long time, excluding Cub games. Walked out if the bathroom and had to hit the ground as fists were flying and security taking down people. Was a great game to be at otherwise. Lots of fun.1 point

Did not watch the game but excited to see we won. Just watching all the highlights now. This team is not good but I think Lenyn Sosa is going to make a name for himself and a potential building block1 point

That's ok just think that if Booser was brought in instead of Clevinger maybe Trout or Soler hit a HR to tie it or grannie to go ahead. Maybe then Sox are demoralized and don't have the 5 run 8th . They end up losing a game late and we're hearing same old Sox and different people jump in the thread who were noticeable absent without too much to make fun of. But plenty of time for that soon. Long season.1 point
