I know we still stink, but it's fun to watch a team that tries. Compared to last year it's night and day.6 points

Nice game from Martin, we hit for some power and had some good ABs. A bad Reds team but whatever, we're playing some decent baseball the last week. We keep this up we might f*** around and win 58 games as @flavum noted in the game thread. Extend Getz?4 points

Great pitching and defense by Cannon and the Sox won in the 10th inning that brought their May record to 6-6 which is 1 more than they won in all of April . Cannon went 6 scoreless after Brandon Eisert started the game and pitched 1 scoreless inning. It's the 3rd start in a row that Cannon has not issued a walk . He lowered his ERA to a very respectable 3.60. With the score tied 1-1 courtesy of a bomb from Elly De la Cruz off Steven Wilson in the bottom of the 9th, the Sox started the 10th inning with Baldwin as the Ghost runner on 2nd base. Elko grounded out to 3rd and Rojas struck out . Matt Thaiss PH for Taylor and worked a walk. Meidroth slapped a 1-2 pitch into RF to score Baldwin with the go ahead run. Up came Miguel Vargas who promptly deposited one into the left field seats for a 3 run HR to give the Sox the final margin of victory, 5-1. Booser came in to mow down the Reds in their half of the 10th with no hits, no walks and 2 K. Quero went 3 for 4 with a walk and drove in the Sox 1st run with a single. Steven Wilson picked up the win along with the blown save.4 points

That's just it. They counted on one group and didn't develop/acquire anyone behind them. They had a pretty good run bit when they got injured/worse there was no one behind them. To have sustained success, they need to develop/draft others. With the limited resources available from JR, they need to focus on this. This takes time. I know everyone wants to win this second and will not allow any time. That's just not realistic.4 points

And it can't be easy to be traded from the only mlb org. you've ever known; he's already from a different country and may have language issues (not sure how English fluent he is); and then to go to the Sox with their record and who were being badmouthed by players and media. None of that is easy.2 points

He's certainly had a sustained solid month of play on both sides. He's looking closer to the guy the Dodgers thought was worth calling up at 22 then the one that they traded away. I give him a lot of credit because everybody talks about having a transformative off season few if any guys ever do it. He did, he's a different player. He still has a long way to go to be considered even an average regular but just looking like a below average one is fine for now.2 points

My grandmother-in-law was SO excited for the Orioles to be good again, so while I enjoy the schadenfreude watching the prospect hugging backfire on Elias - especially after all of those O's fans came here and argued they should only give up a Cal Ripken bobblehead for Cease - I'm also very annoyed at them for dicking around.2 points

AL Win-tral? Every ALC team has a winning record in May. Sox now just two games behind the O's, who they visit at the end of the month.2 points

This team has more quality at bats in a single game than they would for two weeks last year.2 points

I wouldn’t call 4 earned runs and 3 earned runs “real clunkers”. He’s had one real clunker, when he gave up 7 ER against the Tigers early in the year.2 points

They could, but I think they look better. More happy team. Will has made some rookie mistakes but overall I feel he's got a good grip on the clubhouse and players respect him.2 points

While this may be true, i still think they should continue to try him as a starter until he cant. UCL reconstruction and lat injuries are not uncommon for any pitcher.2 points

There definitely are some positive signs, starting pitching except for that blowout in KS last week has been outstanding, team ERA is at 4.01, just about at the league average. There still is work to be done with the offense, hopefully Benintendi returns soon and Robert and Vaughn start producing on a consistent basis, if that happens this team could get to 70 wins which would be amazing after what we saw last year.2 points

What the Astros did was far worse than what Rose did as far as integrity of the game goes. Did those players get punished at all? Nope. So lets not pretend MLB has any serious standards.2 points

Selig told Pete he'd remove the ban if Pete would admit his guilt, stop gambling, and not do gambling endorsements. That was too much to ask for Pete. Manfred made a similar offer. I suspect that Hall of Fame voters will pass on letting him in and I won't lose sleep over it. Major ethical lapses that affect the integrity of the actual baseball games should get the absolute highest scrutiny.2 points

I’m completely out in this front office if Grant Taylor doesn’t come to spring training in 2026 as a starting pitcher. I understand the innings restrictions and using him in big league bullpen to end 2025. If they’re already convinced that he’s best served as a high leverage reliever though, they’re morons.2 points

Open it up to the steroid era too then. If we aren't going to have standards, don't have any at all.2 points

It never seemed clear how Workman would be able to stick for too terribly long once the team got healthy. Of course, there's no guarantee the team ever would/will get healthy enough to push out the last marginal guy (hello Amaya and Palacios). Sox grabbed the kid to take a look and see what happened. He proved untrustworthy in the field and the infielders all got healthy. Goodbye to Mr. Workman, hope all works out.1 point

Did the Sox "deserve" to win? I don't know, these games tend to turn on very narrow moments. But you're supposed to win some games like this. Last year's team basically never did. Winning your coin flips now and then is how it's suppose to go. Even better when a lot of young guys are involved in the key moments.1 point

5 road teams got walked off today and despite being 4-17 away from home, the Sox weren't one of them.1 point

6:14 is to honor Pete Rose. I have my own opinions on that. Never cared for him as a player or as a gambler, but to each their own.1 point
