Who would have thought they would replace Amaya with someone worse, if that's what they do of course.4 points

Which makes it weirder that they keep avoiding guys with big tools and flaws for guys with no tools and still have flaws3 points

He didn't have to trade Semien, Bassitt and Tatis Jr. He didn't have to bank on signing Machado or Harper when he knew Reinsdorf sucks. He could've drafted better in the first round - of the 12 picks Hahn made, only Anderson, Rodon, Burger and Crochet have provided any value, with none of them still on the team. Jury's still out on the last couple, of course. Point is, he needs to look in the mirror.3 points

No. They may as well take back whatever they can get for him, no matter the pittance. Jerry isn’t going to approve Getz picking up Robert’s $20 million dollar team option for 2026, only his $2 million dollar buyout.3 points

I know we still stink, but it's fun to watch a team that tries. Compared to last year it's night and day.3 points

Nice game from Martin, we hit for some power and had some good ABs. A bad Reds team but whatever, we're playing some decent baseball the last week. We keep this up we might f*** around and win 58 games as @flavum noted in the game thread. Extend Getz?2 points

I've said this a dozen times or more but have some pride if that's the case. If you're being over ruled by JR and KW after they get out of the C-Suite cigar lounge session have some pride and quit. But he was happy to keep cashing the checks while talking out both sides of his mouth. If he thought he needed more resources or whatever bring it to the man that signs your checks. Don't make passive aggressive comments to the media and certainly don't be doing it long after you've been fired and placed into the dustbin of MLB GM history.2 points

With Dutch finally logging starters innings for the first time in his life, the waxing and waning of his stuff isn't a surprise. He's literally never pitched at this volume. It all about him building conditioning for a season while he learns how to make his stuff last 100 pitches instead of 50.2 points

I disagree with this. They tried to win and did make the playoffs 2 years in a row with paying young players early. The strategy only work for a short period of time due to no one else behind them. I will agree that they don't sell everything out to win. But its not like the GMs haven't tried to get creative under their resource restrictions.2 points

He's dead to me. Liked him once and then soured as his teams flailed and he kept up the corporate speak about "competitive offers" and blah blah blah. If you don't like the budget you have, just resign, don't try and make excuses in the press. He must be angling for another job in baseball if he's doing this interview. Doubt he got paid, the exposure is the pay.2 points

Apparently, Venable thought differently. They had a long stretch of games without a break until Monday. Catchers rarely catch day games after night games anytime throughout the season.2 points

Its very commonplace for managers managers to have a "Sunday" lineup on get away days. Especially a team that recently had a 20 some game streak without a day off. Ozzie was famous for it every time. Not all do it everytime but its common.2 points

Hey look at that! Hahn has taken a break from calling and texting people in the front office bitching and crying about getting blamed for absolutely destroying the organization he was in charge of. Good for you, Rick!2 points

At some point a team needs to hang on to the good and shed the bad. Can't be sellers every year or you will just keep going around in circles. I see some promise in the offense, defense, and starting pitching. I'd actually like to see them add a few good bullpen arms to the mix.2 points
-
All four starters have looked good at times, some more than others. Cannon and Martin seem like steady, #3 starter types while Smith looks be a true 1-2 starter. Burke, if he can get his walks under control, could be another solid piece. The bullpen has actually looked decent with a few bright spots. There's still no bona fide closer, but a team that might win 55 games doesn't really need one. Let guys like Vasil, Booser, and Wilson continue to get better at high-leverage situations. And, damn is it nice to see some young blood in the lineup and contributing. Meidroth, Quero, Elko, Baldwin, and Vargas need to continue playing most days. There will be ups and downs, but I'd rather watch them develop over other schlubs taking up space.2 points

Look folks. I can be as negative as anybody. But I'm here to tell you. The painful weeks are over. The Sox with Meidroth, Quero and this no name pitching staff led by what must be an awesome pitching coach, is a decent team. This team conceivably could play .500 the rest of the way. What I'm telling you is if Vaughn and Robert would actually emerge, and Beni get healthy, our team can actually contend. Wake up Robert ... start mashing like a superstar. Vaughn, cmon. Lead us to more victories. This team is no longer a doormat, baby. Just think if Elko hits AND Robert and Vaughn awaken for good. ... Hate to break it to some of the tank lovers ... no reason to trade Robert. ... And by the way I heard one of the national talk show yappers say the NBA commish DESPISES tanking and says it's against all tenets of what sports are supposed to be. The tanking, baby, is over. KEEP ROBERT and keep winning. Trying to decide if and when I relent and return to mlb.com.2 points

Record is terrible, but at least there are some signs of hope. I’d rather see young guys try and fail than vets fail and not try.2 points

With everything we now know and have seen, there were a lot of things working against Caleb in 2024. That’s not the case in 2025. While the roster isn’t perfect, no team is and he has the tools to take a huge leap forward. It’s on him in 2025. Go time.1 point

This post is SUCH a good example of the culture we live in. Father has concerns that his son is being put in a bad position, and because of the unique nature of sports, it’s a situation that players don’t really have any control over. Those concerns are rooted in objective facts based on the results the Bears franchise has had historically at the QB position. There is also historical precedent set by Eli Manning where a player (and father) have forced the hand of the team picking No. 1 overall, and Carl and Caleb decided not to go that route. These were concerns BEFORE Caleb was drafted, and what transpired over the course of the 2024 season was probably worse than Carl and Caleb could have predicted, with both Waldron and Eberflus being canned mid year, with the HC being called out by multiple players of his team for a lack of accountability and leadership, and Caleb wasn’t one of the players that went to the media. So with all those facts out there for everyone…you still come to the conclusion Caleb and Carl Williams are prima donna’s. Incredible.1 point

I just don't get why we need more utility guys like Baldwin Gray Lipcius Maton Workman, and now this guy. It's almost working backwards in roster contruction, concentrating on the last 2-3 spots on the roster and backend of the bullpen. You might get SOME marginal improvement.1 point

Lots of focus on the swing tweaks, but wow does Colson's approach look much more like it used to since his return to Charlotte. I think he's only chased maybe 2 pitches out of the zone, and I don' think I've seen him whiff or watch a strike at all. Back to fouling stuff off until he gets what he wants. Clearing his head for a bit might have been as beneficial as anything else he did in AZ.1 point

rick hahn is a rat. 100% had a connection to get into MLB Network to use this as a platform to get his name back out there around the league.1 point

It also means that Chris Getz is doomed to fail because Jerry isn't letting go of power as long as he in involved.1 point

Seems like the most likely explanation here is Capra is a more prototypical bench player than Amaya: plays multiple positions (including a few reps in the OF) and is a fast runner. But I assume Amaya could play 2B/3B, we just don't ask him to since he's the best SS defender on the team. But he's not a great runner. Move probably doesn't matter much either way. Capra had one great year in AA following the COVID season but otherwise hasn't shown much upside.1 point

It's really spread. The Sox are going to catch the Mariners whi most thought had the best rotation in baseball with 3 out of 5 starters on the IL.1 point

They could keep him, buy out his option, offer him a QA, and when he signs somewhere, the draft pick will probably be worth more than anything they get for him.1 point

No no and no...you play him at the position where he has the most value. And Meidroth still needs to show more than a 600ish ops.1 point

Bro why did you pull a 12 year old tweet from when Twitter was more innocent and people tweeted things like this. Once upon a time I posted on here that there was no way the Tatis trade would be that bad because how often do lotto tickets like that hit? Also James Shields would mentor Gio. Absolute crackpot s%*#, but it doesn't really have much bearing on my current view of the Sox; back then I was an eternal optimist, now I'm a lot more bitter outside of Pope Leo memes.1 point
