Wait I thought "something" was better than "nothing" and now people are complaining about it?12 points

I may be in the minority but I have no issue with them keeping Luis. They have nothing committed to payroll next year and no one knocking at the door to be an every day CFer. Also, I would consider keeping him through the end of his contract. If they aren’t contending for the division in 2 years with the talent they have already acquired then what was the point of it all. And if the offers are crap why would you move him for the hope that some of the players even make the majors let alone have the defensive and base running ability Luis has.9 points

Tauchman asked not to be traded. Has a daughter going through medical issues and his family is all lives in Illinois. Support network to help them out.8 points

Oh no. Chris Getz maybe asked for a desirable target in trade negotiations. It's truly unfortunate dialogue ends completely after one player is inquired about.8 points

Maybe the Sox hired a hypnotist to convince him that he's been traded to the Brewers?7 points

I hate Josh Naylor so much I can't cosign this. He is the definition of a guy we sign who comes here and has a 600 OPS, gains 95 pounds, and gets caught yanking it in a parking lot.7 points

f*** it, I'm in. Pick up the option, sign Josh Naylor for 1B and Kyle Schwarber for DH and go to war.7 points

What if this guy was just a Sox the rest of his career? I'd be OK with that. Who else is going to play center field? I'm sort of glad they didn't trade him, we weren't getting anything back and there's no point in dumping him.6 points

How is 34 games a 1/3 of the season? 34 games is obviously a small sample. You think this is a .500 team? Holy moly.5 points

I love how Soxtalk seamlessly transitions from prematurely hyperventilating about Getz not trading Houser to prematurely hyperventilating about hypothetical bad free agent signings that may occur in 8 months because the GM said they want to spend money on the team.5 points

Kudos to Getz for not showing to be a pushover desperate placeholder at his job. Other teams are sharks, and he did not give in on garbage packages. Could serve key in future dealings.5 points

Look, we can pretend this is nothing all we want, but each time we get nothing out of a group of retreads and guys who should have had some trade value with, we fail to acquire pieces to potentially move things forward quicker. This rebuild just continues to be worst case scenario after worst case scenario. Even we turn dudes careers around, we seem to fail at benefiting from it.5 points

The only thing that could happen at this deadline to make me think Getz is completely clueless is if Houser isn't moved. I'm not very comfortable holding on to LouBob but the potential upside of trading him seems so small that I can at least see the logic of holding on especially if ownership has signaled comfort with his option.5 points

I mean, if the return is similar to what the Twins got for Bader I'm holding onto him too.5 points

The Padres are basically a somewhat successful version of what Kenny and Rick wanted for the Sox.5 points

I have thought this since before the all-star break when the White Sox were already playing better: I don't think the Sox should just completely dismantle what they have right now. Especially, especially for a bunch of lottery picks. And lottery picks is an apt metaphor for what they would get back. The odds are low that they would get anything of value back, so why make trades just to make trades? I understand that Robert and Houser have to go; it get that completely. Trade both of them while their value is high; I get it. But as far as I'm concerned that's it; don't trade anyone else. Don't trade Tauchman. He is clearly the best RF they have had in what?? 8 or 9 years? All the people who say we should trade him, what are the Sox going to get back?? Be honest, a minor leaguer who has what? A 1-in-5 chance of every playing in the majors, at best? Probably more like a 1-in-10 chance. Keep him this year and keep him next year. He really helps the team win; he's important to this young improving team. . Keep Sosa. Again: he's the best 2nd baseman the Sox have had in, again, 8 or 9 years, at least. Yes, he makes bad decisions, but he hits. He hits. The Sox don't win 2 out of 3 games in this series and some other series since the break is Sosa isn't on the team. Keep him, the return won't be worth it. He's young too. He's going to improve just like all the others. Somehow, everyone seems to forget that about him. Keep Benintendi. I would argue that he is the Sox's best bat. He is important to this team and a vital cog in the lineup. His defense isn't anywhere near as bad as all the people on here complain that it is. We kinda saw a good example of that tonight. Plus everybody talks about how expensive he is? What? 17 million is not that expensive at all. And Jerry and the Sox management can afford 17 million. My God, if you eat Ramen noodles everyday for lunch and dinner, you can afford to go to Olive Garden once a month. He's not too expensive with what the Sox are paying everyone else. Keep him and let's keep this momentum going on through September and on into 2026. A know a lot, A LOT, of people argue on here that wins this year don't matter. Wins next year don't matter. I will never, never understand that thinking. When the White Sox win, it matters. I and a whole lot of people are happy. We're happy with the 9 -3 win over Philly and every time the Sox win. When they lose, we are decidedly not happy. Keep winning this year. That's why we should keep Tauchman; keep him for now instead of trading him for a chance, probably a slim chance, that the Sox might be better in the future. Keep Benintendi for the same reason. I have had more fun watching the White Sox this past month, even before the all-star break, then I have at any time in the last five years. Why would anyone willing want it to stop? I don't get it.4 points

With all due respect to Houser, whose brief time as a Sox I sincerely enjoyed...if I was a Cubs fan tonight, hearing that Adrian Houser was the "really tried, just missed" addition would just piss me off. Houser is the guy they should have gotten after their actual "really tried, just missed" SP fell through.4 points

Ok I respect not trading Tauchmann if he requested to stay in Chicago to keep his family centered as they deal with any health problems.4 points

You seem like someone who still throws their toys against the wall so outside of your expert opinion on that, what's your point?4 points

Candidly speaking, they should add to the team this offseason. Too many young players on the roster now to throw away a full year of service time on all of them.4 points

Mead: 24 years old but a long time in the minors due to signing young as an amateur out of Australia. Rays were going to have to make a tough decision soon because he's running out of options. Statcast shows us serious bat speed potential, will slot in as third-highest bat speed on the Sox after Robert and Colson. This is a prerequisite for power hitting. Other info from Statcast regarding raw tools: not a strong runner, comparable speed to a guy like Lenyn Sosa. Around league average, so it's not a major detractor to his game but probably means he's not an obvious candidate to convert to outfield. Also, his average and maximum throwing velocities in the infield are low, matching scouting report claims that he has a weak arm. Statcast defensive metrics have him within a stone's throw of average across his various experiences. A bit below average last year, a bit above this year (has played 2B better than 1B). The vast majority of his minor league experience is at 3B with some reps at 2B. He suffered an arm injury once he became a major leaguer which may have affected his ability to be a full-time 3B going forward. As a prospect, he had a reputation for serious problems with chasing pitches out of the zone but having a natural feel for hitting that helped cover for it, especially paired with his raw power. This season, he has drastically cut back his chase rate in the majors, well below MLB average. That said, it's not all roses — he's become more passive in general, taking a lot of strikes even down the middle. His rate of contact is quite high, just a tick short of the elite contact bats like Meidroth. His .317 xwOBA is close to league average, but he has had mildly bad luck in his actual results. At the time of his recent demotion, he was trending in a good direction. He has reverse splits this season but that was not the case in the past, so more likely a sample size thing. Once you get into the particulars you will see numerous differences but there are definitely echoes of the Miguel Vargas acquisition here. He's probably higher risk and higher upside.4 points

Judging from the Mullins return, lets just hold onto him. We have zero payroll going into next year. If he bounces back to a plus 800 hitter, he will be worth so much more. I know thats a big IF, but the alternative is the Cedric Mullins return which is blah anyways.4 points

Yeah I won't be crying if the Sox have a player with the talent level of LouBob on the squad next year with a contract that has no negative impact on the team's future4 points
-
A 40 FV prospect really doesn't do much for the Sox future. They could actually be a watchable team next year, and Robert is easily the most likely player they have or could acquire that could be a 4-5 win player. Is there some risk? Yah, sure - to JR's wallet. I don't think the risk of losing out on a back-end top 20 type prospect is really much of a gamble. Now, if they can get a legit interesting piece for him, you absolutely trade him.4 points
-
People are really concerned about a $20M contract option next year? What gives… Do you pay the Sox bills? There is no prospect Luis Robert is blocking. Plus, 99% of the roster is prearb/arb. Trading Luis for peanuts is not worth the risk of seeing if he can put together a bounce back year next season. Maybe he is apart of a 2026 wild card run. Maybe he puts up a big first half next year and he’s gone. Maybe he puts up a dud and is done after 2026 which won’t matter because there won’t be baseball in 2027.4 points

Tauch actively prefers to stay. He has an 8 month old with health issues and likes being near his family and support network. With him also being productive on the field and a plus in the clubhouse, I have 0 problems keeping him. Maybe I'd send him across town if Cubs want a reunion, but I'm not pressed at all about missing out on some fringe A ball player return. Not like he's blocking an OF prospect right now either.4 points

Given the relief prices out there, I'd be most disappointed to hear the Sox didn't entertain talks on Taylor (especially if they have him as a Pen arm, which it seems like to me they do).4 points

Power is hard to get. We have very little home run power in our org. Not that concerned about re-signing a RH bat only guy in 4 years. For trading Robert, who apparently we would decline an option on, being able to acquire plausible power for the corners where we are shockingly decrepit at providing, I think it's a good bet.3 points
