WTF. I get that they want someone to throw innings and protect younger arms, but c'mon. Clevinger is a glaring example of everything that is wrong with this franchise. They don't care about what the fans want. They don't develop young talent. They don't prioritize winning at the mlb level in any way shape or form. They've let Tyler Alexander put up 13 losses in about 2/3 of a season. For the $1.3 mil they save by letting Civale go, they're exposing themselves to millions in bad PR. Oh yeah, and they have plenty of milb relievers who deserve to get their feet wet in the majors AND who are Rule 5 eligible over the winter. Instead they're carrying Clevinger, Bryse Wilson, and Owen White on the roster for God only knows what reason. I'm not part of the firs Chris Getz crowd, but fire Chris Getz.5 points

I cheered on the final out and my 9 year old son said, “You’re so dumb. You should have bet a hundred thousand dollars on it.”4 points

While both teams are probably really happy, the White Sox got 4 players, three of which are contributing to the ML roster and the other is flying up the prospect rankings. Whenever you can trade 1 player you have no intentions to keep for 4 players who will be here for several years it’s a massive win.4 points

Right now the Sox are in no position to trade young talented hitters. They traded Semien because he couldnt field either. Sosa can reach a higher offensive upside. Let the young guys play and reach something like a career year before you consider trading them. Of course then you want to keep them but keep the minor league talent flowing in if he's still not in the OF or a better infielder.3 points

Leasure had a really solid August, carrying over into September! No extra innings, no Bryse, maybe this means No Clevinger.3 points

Another recipe for losing baseball: 1-8 w/RISP, 2 errors, 5 bb. No wonder they’re gonna drop an amazing 230 games in a two year span.3 points

In case anyone missed Eloy, Chase did a fair imitation of him running to first.3 points

Really excited about young positional talent. The number of players historically that can play a solid SS and plausibly hit 40 bombs in a year is probably very, very small. IMO, this lineup will be ferocious when Bonemer is at 3B and Braden in RF.3 points

Getz isn't GM apparently, either. Because Clevinger being on the roster again is something no fully rational GM would do. It's either JR TLR or the minority shareholders running the team...or JR is that afraid of tampering charges dating back to the Covid season with Clevinger and Z.Plesac partying in Chicago. But go ahead, try to spin something about his veteran leadership and how he deserves this shot again after keeping his nose clean at Charlotte all season long. Apparently they cared more about how Benetti ate a hot dog than the impact on female Sox fans of bringing in Clevinger around all their rookies...heck, the majority of Sox fans outside a few crackpots are disgusted by this move.3 points

You realize what Luis Robert did in 2023, right? Did you miss his performance that season? Because my comments were prior to 2024. Nobody at SoxTalk was predicting a complete collapse at that point. Moncada had over an 800 ops for the Angels within the last week and Vaughn led the Brewers to the NL Central title...other than Jimenez falling off completely last year, but you were the one shining that it wasn't fair to judge Chris Getz when all those guys got hurt, right????? You didn't use the injury excuse about 1000 times last year?3 points

I would love to hear what the actual point of this is, plenty of other arms they could've promoted instead.3 points

Imagine posting multiple times and busting a nut that your favorite baseball team is actually going to win 50+ games in a 162 game season. 🤣 Jerry has truly won. Owner of the year!3 points

I don’t say this often but Sosa is a fan favorite or should be and trading him would piss me off on a subjective fandom level.2 points

To be fair, both those guys were in AAA 2 weeks ago. Also, Katz mostly works with the starters. I think they gotta fire Matt Wise after two awful years from the bullpen2 points

All season actually , all through his non-linear ( not a surprise) development. Im just glad that many of the prospects came to the big leagues and succeeded this season when someone here said " the odds are nearly 100% that a significant amount of these guys will fail, and fail hard. They are all so young, and development isnt certain, nor linear. " Now if Im being fair maybe he only meant some of the pitchers you mentioned and not the even younger position players who were set to make ther debuts this year. Thats not counting Hagen Smith or Schultz who many thought could be called up at the end of this year. I didnt think so because again that would be an ultra fast linear progression which rarely happens with early 20s pitchers . I find it incredibly odd that so very few mentioned Quero,Teel, Sosa, Vargas, Meidroth, C. Montgomery in their reasonings about our record this year. Has a lot gone wrong ? It probably couldnt have gone much worse for pitching depth purposes with all the injuries and it's showing more and more the later we get in the season. Also a lot went right Colson, Teel, Vargas, Sosa, Quero have all performed better than expected. Perez has pitched well in his short non injured time Houser came from nowhere as did Shane Smith, Vasil ,and Yoendrys Gomez. And we added the Pope to our squad too. Can't be all bad.2 points

That was the point of this thread to pick a side on whether you thought things were improving enough to pick the over. Now of course you're going to cry about it being a weird flex . LOL you never quit. It's not the result it's the reasoning behind it, but some people don't understand that apparently. Every time anyone shows a little joy or happiness you're here to squash it. Lowered expectations from your point of view or unrealistic expectations that cannot possibly be met after losing 121 games without any money put into the team and JR intent on leaving as much money to his heirs as possible. The thing is you never quite say what you expect to happen only that everyone else who sees progress isn't unhappy enough. At least we have realistic goals based on an objective view of what is going on with Reinsdorf and the Ishbias.2 points

Sosa hit HR #18 today. His first 9 took half the season (81 games) but he got the next 9 more than twice as quickly (38 games). He's also very nearly doubled his RBI pace from the first half to the second (31 RBI in 81 games vs. 30 RBI in 38 games). Some of that is probably a result of the generally better team offense. Some is improved plate discipline as he's dropped his K% from 23.7 to 18.7%. Taking 8 walks in still 38 games isn't much, but it beats 8 walks in 81... He also just seems to be punishing "his" pitches more: 9 HR out of 24 XBH in the first half (14 2B), 9 HR out of 12 XBH in the last 38 games (3 2B). It's a big jump in ISO from .150 to .204 while simultaneously improving his AVG/OBP a bit. Will be interesting to see if the trend keeps up to finish the season or if it's just a hot streak in a (still solid) year.1 point

Anecdotal evidence is information based on personal accounts or isolated experiences, rather than systematic and reliable data. While it can be compelling and relatable, it is considered a weak form of evidence, especially in a scientific context, because individual experiences are not necessarily representative of broader patterns and can be influenced by cognitive biases. Anecdotes are not proof but can sometimes be useful for generating ideas or illustrating concepts. Yet despite all the huffing and puffing about it's the Sox so expect bad, the guy leading his men up that hill died on it because he didn't even put any real conviction into his own words. Didn't even trust his own opinion because he fully admitted he was on the fence about betting either the over or the under. You'd think that if most of your posts in this thread say "been there done that many times before" surely you must believe your own words otherwise what's the point of wallowing in the s%*#. It's pretty easy to take one side or the other on an over/under line especially when you're not betting it you're just taking your data points or your anecdotal evidence and picking a side. Fear of being wrong I suppose.1 point

I think so considering Crochet only works every 5th day. Imagine if they got 2 pitchers and 2 fielders instead?1 point

really? You haven't seen enough of those? It's the buffoonery of baseball. I guess you could follow that AA bench warmer who can't even live up to the dumpster dive player and say "at least we don't have Robert". No shortage of weak trade returns to satisfy our trade fenzy from over exposure of being a habitual losing small market team.1 point

Great stuff but if he can't control it mox nix. Gonzales OTOH has impressive stuff and a clue as to where it's going.1 point

Yeah, you just knew he was going to immediately be this successful in the majors after two awful minor league seasons in a row, right? What a freaking joke of a comment, trying to shove it in peoples’ faces as if you just always knew Montgomery would tear it up upon his call up. 🤣🤡 No one is eating crow because no one — including you — thought that Montgomery would have this type of immediate success after two bad seasons in AAA along with his back issues. Unfortunately for your usual Getz agenda, Montgomery was drafted by Hahn, so we can thank him instead. But please give us your thoughts on Booser and Gilbert whom our current GM actually acquired and traded prospects for.1 point

If that’s true, it’s a massive problem. It’s not an offseason decision. It’s a July decision.1 point

There sure was a lot of hand wringing over that guy back in the spring. I think crows would go extinct if everyone decided to "eat crow".1 point

Looks good for both teams, but who can really say? Crochet could get injured, Montgomery could bust, etc. All four players performing at the major league level would make it a big success...but Crochet is one of the best pitchers, if not the best, in the league for a while if he doesn't get hurt. I think as it stands, both teams got what they were looking for. I liked it at the time and still do. Really like Teel, but didn't love getting another catcher because Quero might end up a better hitter and neither guy looks like an elite defender/game caller. Plus Korey Lee is more than serviceable as a backup. I liked Mayer and obviously Anthony as the 'big' piece. Getting Anthony would've been a huge steal whereas Mayer probably would've been an overpay (Kyle is at .779 OPS in 205 PA, Mayer at .674 in 136 and keeps getting injured). I might've wanted Bleis too, but he's had a really tough year, .550 OPS at AA. Getting Braden was awesome and I don't think Boston knew what they had with him. Still could bust, but I think he's going to show out like his brother from another mother, Colson. Wanted to draft him in the first place. His injury was overblown and I think we got a steal there. Meidroth and Gonzalez were basically just 'some guys' but really nice tertiary pieces. Meidroth has been up and down but has been better defensively than expected and still looks like a potential leadoff hitter. At worst, utility infielder who puts the ball in play and actually looks very good at both SS and 2B. tbh, I don't think it would have been crazy to send him down at some point or even start him at AAA next season depending on how spring training goes. His command of the strike zone hasn't been as good as advertised. Wikelman has also been pretty good in limited time. He's looked better in MLB than in the minors which is interesting. That seems true of several Sox players. I think he'll start striking more people out, his stuff looks good, but the walks are a little scary. All in all, I like the trade and I'm happy Garrett is doing well!1 point
