He actually was much better defensively than advertised. He still isn’t the hitter Schriffen makes him out to be. He did have a glorious stretch, but per usual, regression to the mean occurred.3 points

Hopefully Ishbia is 100% in charge so we don't need to worry about seeing Montgomery leave. If the Sox land the #1 pick in the lottery, Roch Cholowski is going to make all this moot.3 points

I'm sure every team is showing interest in every young guy with some talent and projectability on the Sox roster. I really doubt any of them will be traded.3 points

Soldier Field is in an AWFUL location. It can't be overstated how bad the experience is getting in and out of there.3 points

“ And if something should happen to Vargas, they have Curtis Mead, who could take over at third.” What???? On what planet does Mead have an skills at all? Getz needs to stop trading for org guys. Especially from tampa.2 points
-
I could see that. Vargas doesn't seem to have the bat for 1B, and his defense is too rough at 3B to stick there. Like you said, he's kind of a complementary player rather than a lineup fixture long-term.2 points
-
I don't think they would. Ishbia is going to want to own the new stadium. Working with the Friends of the Park is nothing but a disaster.2 points

I don't see Vargas having the value to make him worth trading rn, to be honest.2 points
-
I'd trade Vargas at any time. He has a very long swing. Decent defense at 3B isn't going to change that. I'm not saying he's a bum. He may have a season or two where he out peforms. I just can't see him being a core piece on a good team.2 points
-
Oh, this is Scott Merkin taking fan questions, and weighing the pros and cons. Of course they have to listen. I'd assume that Teel, the two Montys and Shane Smith are the only untouchables at the moment. But for the way Vargas gets talked about as a clubhouse leader, and unrealized potential, I'd think they'd have to be blown away by a package to move him.2 points
-
I mean you have to listen.....doesn't mean you have to trade anyone. we are not in a position to hug .230 hitters.........If other teams overvalue him and want to over pay then why not2 points

It’s kinda wild that our owners are telling the pope of future white sox plans, lmao. I’m not a religious fella but I understand the meaning and importance of the pope and having one with a direct connection to Chicago is crazy, and to see the overall reaction to him has been equally as crazy.2 points

I definitely expected a little more from Canario, but maybe he's just who he appears to be: fodder.2 points
-
The sad thing is that Getz just traded for an outfielder who is probably not any better and gave up a possible #5 starter and his last piece from the Cease trade. At least Canario would have been free last year via a waiver claim or cash considerations. Had he sucked with the Sox instead of the Mets and Pirates, it wouldn’t have been much is a loss. You had mentioned Canario’s poor strikeout rate as one of the marks against him so I am curious what you think of Pereira’s. Meanwhile, Canario has still out-bWAR’ed Pereira in their short careers thus far. Yet you said you liked the Pereira acquisition.2 points

Vargas will never get beyond solid starter, IMO. Like, in the next 4 years, if he has a primary position, maybe he has a 3-4 WAR year, or two. The end. I believe the Sox will be pushing the upper 70s in wins this year, and be competing for the last wild card spot in 27, so no, don't trade him. He's a place-holder. But Bonemer, Carlson, 2026 1st rounder will be moving him off of his spot in the coming years. I really don't think the Sox are building for a window. This is the "steady flow" of talent Hahn always dreamed of. If they can draft and develop guys like Bonemer, Vargas will become expendable. I don't think the Sox should trade Vargas. I think he should be a Sox regular (if he earns it) until he's pushed out. I'm just saying that of course he should be getting interest because I think he has one more plateau to reach as a hitter.1 point

Vargas made a pretty big jump from 2024 to 25. If he makes another jump than maybe he hits .265 with 22 HRs and 80 rbis and .770 OPS. That's a decent player to have in the lineup. Are you really going to get anything back in a trade better than that.1 point

If we live in a world as Sox fans where as a bottom 1/4 payroll we are worrying about some 1 WAR guy playing making 7 million a year a few years down the road we are completely cooked, just move to Nashville now.1 point

Jerry must’ve imported tons of cheap second-rate Christmas lights from China at pennies on the dollar. Sounds like similar spending as our White Sox offseason. ”You can’t spend a dollar if you only have fifty cents.” https://lightofchristmas.com/locations/chicago/1 point

I don’t know how much this actually has to do with the Sox, but tonight we went to the holiday light show in the parking lot at the stadium. It was…pretty embarrassing. I don’t fault them too much, as it’s the first night and there are bound to be kinks to work out. But it felt like half of the lights were out. I wasn’t even upset. I was embarrassed for whomever runs it1 point

At least zero in-game power... That's always the test of every corner hitter, having at the very least gap if not home run power to the opposite field on a neutral field without any wind.1 point

I still hope he breaks out. It’s amazing how a guy can crush it in the minors like he did and then look completely clueless in the majors. But like Fathom says all the time, it just seams like he has zero power.1 point

Carlos Quentin was coming off a - 0.8 bWar in his age 24 season in 2007 and needed labrum surgery on his non throwing arm that October who was a former big prospect that the Sox traded for and he put up a 5.3 bWar in 2008 but never put up those kind of numbers again. Kenny Williams was GM then.1 point

I don't know how long Carlson would take to get here, but I have to imagine we are talking probably 2029 for a raw high school bat, even with his supposed gold glove type skills defensively. Caleb Bonemer is probably more of a late 27 to early 28 track if he keeps going, so I don't think that is a worry in the near future, but could definitely see that happen in a couple of years.1 point

Bingo. That'd be a terrible location for a Sox stadium. I'm not sure why it keeps getting suggested as a new Sox home. It would be a traffic nightmare and it's a 20 minute walk to the nearest L stop. They'd also need to put at least a retractable roof on the thing with those ice-cold winds blowing right off the lake in the early part of the season. That could add a few hundred million to the price of the structure. Not much night life around it and the Friends of the Park would never allow an entertainment district to be built next to it either. They'd be much better off staying at 35th & Shields than moving to the Soldier Field site. If Ishbia is really going to bankroll a new stadium, it's either going to be at the 78 or on the site of Old Comiskey Park with an entertainment district around it. If he's really going to privately finance a new stadium, I'd have to think the 78 site would be his first choice. But we'll see, it's not my money.1 point
-
Yeah, I can't see anything else bigger ever being done on that site. If anything they tear down the Bears monstrosity and restore it to it's historic self.1 point

No way the White Sox will do this … not until he’s ready to pitch in the majors, when/if that ever happens in his recovery. He wasn’t an elite prospect in the first place and he still has to beat out a lot of guys like Thorpe that Getz will want to show/prove the return on his trades was worthwhile…especially with the Dylan Cease return way under water as of today.1 point

It was Vuc's master plan. What's everyone gonna talk about? Clingan's boards or Vuc's game winner? Absolute vet move by Vucci Mane to blow the lead to setup the game winner.1 point

Last year at second base Sosa was worth -10 DRS (ranked 30th at the position) in 745 innings and a -3 OAA per Baseball Savant. If we're talking 1B/DH reps I'm all for it, maybe even a LF trial run like ss2k5 mentioned. He's just been horrible at second base and there are better defensive options at the ready. I think Meidroth profiles better as a UTIL INF option anyways and Antonacci will get a shot at 2B at some point in 2026. Let Lenyn focus on mashing and only picking up a glove in case of emergency.1 point

Why is he odd man out? Why isn't Meidroth the odd man out? That's the entire point of my post. Sosa hit 17 more homers last year, often times clutch homers. Sosa improves every year. I keep saying it, even with his mental lapses, he was a 46th percentile defender, barely below average. It's much more likely Sosa will be a average defender than Meidroth ever hit 15 home runs. I'll go further: I would say it's much more likely Sosa will hit 30 home runs than Meidroth hit 10 next year (wouldn't you posters agree?) Someone brought up Sosa's not taking walks. Come on, that might be of all things last year, the one area Sosa improved in the most, especially the 2nd half of the season. Is there any reason to think he won't take even more walks next year, again he improves every year. Actually, I and the board sort of had this conversation last year before spring training. After the trade with his walk metrics, many people already had Meidroth at the starting 2nd baseman for last year. I would bring up Sosa's five homers in September in 2024 and tell people, "Guys we need his power."1 point

I’d buy low on a guy like Kjerstad if they don’t want to play him. f*** it.1 point

That was always my assumption but it is nice that someone with his position and financial where with all has publicly said it. And like I posted those three or four people who keep insisting the Sox are moving should give that ludicrous notion a rest now.1 point

I have a hard time listening to Bernstein because it’s not really live. I still will check it out here and there, but I still listen to the score because of the updates and breaking news1 point

The ESPN 1000 is solid nothing has ever really stood out. The SCORE is much better at providing content that is informative. ESPN is more conversational chat that doesn't do much for me. Harris and Rahimi are both sidekicks neither can lead a show. I always thought Jurko and Bernstein would be an interesting grouping similar to Boers and Bernstein1 point

Mully and Haugh are still good. I just wish they were on later than the early morning slot. Harris and Rahimi have to be the worst sports talk on the radio and I can’t believe they can’t figure out a better duo.1 point

We are nearing the end of year one of the Reinsdorf/Ishbia option agreement. Only 3 or 4 more years to go.1 point
