  1. Put me on record — this is stupid. Offense-starved team refuses to give a shake to a young cost-controlled player who can hit a little bit. Maybe the skeletons will suddenly fall out of the closet to make this make more sense but to me this is just Getz not liking Sosa's game on an aesthetic level and feeling unwilling to figure out how to use him.
  2. This seems like an absurdly stupid trade that I can't see the vision on from any angle.
  3. I’ll give Sosa this. He was good at going back on a pop up that we’ve seen baffle some 2Bs. And he could hit a little. Fielding in general? Not as bad as you guys are making it sound.
  4. It is absolutely absurd that you can see what has happened in Phoenix with his families investment in the Suns, including a WILD spending spree, and already be attempting to speak in absolute certainty about something like this, especially since the whisper was that the Murakami signing was because of Ishbia's checkbook. This whole argument is patently absurd when you look at the current 45 year long owner of the White Sox and realize that he LITERALLY used OPM to purchase the White Sox, has never been a majority owner of the White Sox, and it's never been HIS cash that did anything for this team in anything but a minority sense of the word. Jerry's wealth was built by pooling other people's money into real estate investments, including the CHICAGO WHITE SOX! Jerry is the definition of private equity. He came closer than any owner in the history of Chicago came to moving this franchise out of Chicago, and has literally stomped this original AL franchise into the lowest earning franchise IN ALL OF MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL. Ishbia doesn't have to be better than every other owner, he just has to be better than Jerry to seriously improve the status of this once proud franchise. Literally every nutjob fear tactic you keep using to try to scare people about Ishbia, HAS ALREADY HAPPENED! If you want the team to succeed, you should recognize this. It's like Roy Kohn is your ghostwriter using the old "accuse everyone else of whatever it is you are doing" tactic.
  5. Dumbest s%*# possible. Benentendi still here. Sosa should have been the full time DH. He will mash in that lineup. Getz proving to be worse than Hahn and that's saying a lot
  6. if someone asked me, would you rather have benintendi + low floor/low ceiling HS OF plus PTBNL OR Sosa, DFA benintendi, replace him with random AAAA dregs I would pick the 2nd option
  7. Meidroth hasn’t done much in almost 600 plate appearances to prove he should be a starting major league 2B. Perhaps the move should be for Antonacci to start at 2B and Meidroth move to backup infielder?
  8. He doesn't want the headlines of Sox cut their largest contract ever. He's a coward among other things.
  9. I think JR likes Cash Considerations even more than David Eckstein.
  10. Don't like this move but at least Meidroth and his incredible production will continue to play every day.
  11. Look, Sosa has no trade value. He's the exact type of guy that returns nothing on the open market, and that is pretty close to what we got back. Honestly, while I don't understand why we handled the guy the way we did, doing absolutely nothing to give him a chance to succeed, I am glad they finally got something for him.
  12. Sosa isn't very good, or even average. But his ABs will be replaced by someone less average, probably bad, really bad. Can we at least have a goal that MLB ABs should go to people that actually have a legitimate reason to wear a MLB uniform?
  13. Never really seemed like this front office was a big fan of Sosa. Not really sure exactly how much they were gonna get for him but they didn’t really give him a chance to boost his value this season at all
  14. Instead he gets years of the fans talking about it, instead of just tearing the bandaid off and being done with it. It's a sunk cost. Deal with it.
  15. They are eating the contract, in the same amount, and in the same increments, whether he is here or not. They are holding on to him in some fantasy world that someone eventually picks up some of his contract to save them a few bucks. You just saw his equivalent in Sosa (average hitter with no defensive position) with a minimum wage type salary get sold for absolutely nothing. It's a fantasy that will never happen. I would love to pull a winning powerball ticket, but I know the odds are 300m:1. Jerry needs to realize that the same thing is happening with Benny. He's the Springfield Tire Fire.
  16. I have no idea why this team refuses to send Benintendi packing.
  17. 2 points
f*** you Getzy.....you are worthless. If I was as bad at my job as you are, I would fire myself.
  18. You know the dialogue here is getting silly when there's suggestions about trying him in the outfield.
  19. The size info was out of date. That's probably how big he was the first time he played in a tournament sponsored tournament. He's being listed at 5'10" 170 nowadays and looks like he might be a tad heavier than that. Big enough to have earned a D1 football scholarship that he turned down to play pro baseball.
  20. The entire lineup has been, and Getz builds the lineup.
  21. Rutherford's stock was already falling, and we tried to catch the falling knife.
  22. Yea, get rid of Sosa for a bad clone of Acuna. Toronto Blue Jays took one of our best hitters in exchange for nothing. That is why they were AL champs last season and we weren't.
  23. Getz won’t be content until every hitter on this team is slappy like him and Eckstein were.
  24. Yes, trade the player that led the team in HRs last season and who is hitting better than any of his teammates right now.
  25. I assume the Sosa trade opens the door for an Antonacci call up
  26. No shot. There's no way a guy with his upside who was a 1.1 consideration is floated all the way to 41.
  27. The Sox have once again done the seemingly impossible: -.4 fWAR so far from position players, good enough for dead last. I can't even begin to say how dreadful that is coming off the prior two seasons. Not only have we made zero progress towards fielding a competitive team, you could argue that the team is in a worse position than it was entering 2024 -- even with the 1,1 luck. There's nothing to really trade, there's nothing in the farm that indicates we have the 30 WAR needed to get back to competitive and there's nothing indicating JR will cede control prior to 2029. Oh, and there's probably a lockout incoming. Great vibes all around.
  28. During rain delay theater on the radio yesterday Jim, Jim Callis listed the future as... Roch at 2B Carlson at SS Colson at 3B Bonemer in LF
  29. Tanner Murray had an OPS under 700 as an old guy in AAA. How is Murray a diamond in the rough or at all like antonacci. Murray will be out of baseball in 1 year.
  30. The Sox signed Dominguez for the very purpose of trading him if he pitches well. The last few years have shown that good closers have a lot of value at the trade deadline.
  31. A split in KC is ok. Not just our Sox but most teams would take it.
  32. The fact that there are any of you bemoaning the loss of Sosa shows you just how low the bar as been set for the Sox.
  33. It’s not. It’s more deflection from the diehard Getz defenders. It has happened in the past and it still happens today. Sosa is obviously not a great infield defender but comparing him to Andrew Vaughn is insincere. Last time I checked, Vaughn can’t realistically play 2B and 3B even if the Sox put him at those positions a handful of times in his Sox career. It’s not like the return for Sosa is anything worthwhile. It would have been a better move for the team to have Sosa learning LF over winter ball and in ST and discuss DFA’ing Benintendi who adds nothing to the team. Getz knew Sosa was one of their leading power hitters last season, was only 25/26 years old, and wouldn’t be a free agent until 2030. Why would you not come up with a offseason plan with the roster to get him at bats to see if he could continue to improve? The Sox have holes at both LF and DH (especially against lefties). And I get it, Jerry probably doesn’t want to admit failure on the Benintendi signing with two years left but we all already know that’s precisely what it is.
  34. https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=sosa--000len This past winter for Caracas, Sosa played 22 games at second, 6 at first base and one at third. fwiw
  35. Old Friend Mike Vasil is learning to pound beers left handed during his rehab, giving Chris Getz the switch hitter he's been looking for.
  36. Jordan Rich is projected to crack top 100 prospect lists by next year, so I wouldn’t be too upset about this trade if I were you.
  37. It would be nice to obtain players who can produce now and not probably never. Sosa was on the + side of this weak roster, and we've lost him for essentially nothing.
  38. This was always going to be a dicey signing. There is a reason that the Sox got him for basically 2/40. If he was a slam dunk, he would have been a $200 million player. We need to see if he can adjust to MLB pitching. It doesn't take long for them to find a weakness and exploit it. Now Mune has to adjust back.
  39. Do you have one of those split jerseys?
  40. 1 point
Zavala’s swing has gotten short and quick. Also the leg kick has quieted down. Like what I’m seeing.
  41. Don’t count anything until it happens. And Patrick Williams is trash. He does nothing on the court and I don’t think he is a plus defender at all - he was solid early in his career but his lateral movement is slower so he is a positionless player in the worse kind of way.
