We have to remember, Sox were playing with house money with Gonzalez. He was another bad year away from getting cut from the organization. They worked on his swing and turned him into an asset for the future. That's what good organizations do! And to be frank, I hope Gonzalez kills it in Pittsburgh. Kid deserves it after the changes he has made. It was just a solid baseball trade that helped both teams.

In case you're wondering, MLB rules allow the bullpen catcher to be used as an emergency catcher so long as MLB has approved the bullpen catcher as being sufficiently able-bodied and experienced in competitive baseball. Not sure if the Sox bullpen catcher qualifies. Can only use the bullpen catcher for this if both catchers are removed from the game due to injury or ejection. You are expected to pinch hit for the emergency catcher if he comes up to bat but you can continue to use him on defense (losing your pinch hitters as if you had subbed them back out).

Yea. While I like Gonzalez, it sure doesn't seem like the industry as a whole values him that highly. There are definitely questions on what position he settles at, the defensive value, and if the bat is legit. Playing the wait and see game here. Hope he kills it as a Pirate though.

While my gut feeling is it's close to the worst case scenario, you really can't even go a day without a second catcher so I think Quero would be coming up no matter what, even if they thought Teel was going to feel okay after a few days

His 2nd half struggles last year should have been a warning that he wouldn't be the player he was. Fenway briefly revived his bat, but then he struggled even with the green monster in left. Now he's coming out of his prime looking like a league average hitter with a decent glove at 3rd.

Your first place Chicago White Sox are (finally!) a season high 7 games over .500! 47-33 since April 17th is the best mark in the AL. +52 run diff on the season is second in the AL behind NYY. They are 6-1 since Mune's return, outscoring opponents 49-10 in that stretch. They've allowed 0 or 1 runs 5 times in those 7 games, and scored in double digits 3 times. 7 runs scored vs. 1.4 runs allowed on average. 7-4 in their last 11 road games. Also, one thing we haven't had in, like, forever is a surplus group of prospects that other teams crave and will ill-advisedly jump at, like Pittsburgh just did with Gonzo. And the tradeoff isn't "Gonzo for Thome". It's Gonzo, plus the overall #1, a bunch of shrewd scouting/negotiating signings - for 3 crazy good prep bats, a very interesting prep arm, Volchco and a bunch of fliers on insane college power bats". If we wind up maxing out a half dozen interesting prospects from this class, that's the jackpot.

If the Sox can keep stocking and developing the minors they can move those players like the Dodgers do to sustain the line up. Having to trade elite #1 starters like Sale and Crochet because the cupboard was bare was painful.

I think the fact the Sox never even tried to play him anywhere else in the infield states a lot about how they feel about his defense. I don't remember reading anything positive about his defense (even calling him an average one).

Gonzo never sniffed the top 100. Lux had top 5 prospect pedigree. They're not comparable. Jim Callis was amazed that Gonzo was all the Pirates could get for that pick. Lux also wasn't traded on the eve of the draft. Supply and demand.

But if we waited a year, he’d be hitting in the minors during that time. There was nowhere for him to play on the big league club. The only way his stock goes up is with production in the majors, and he wasn’t going to get that with us.

The Sox have to stay away from any long, meaning more than 3 game, losing streaks the rest of the way. Right now in the AL you have 12 teams fighting for 6 playoff spots . Only 3 teams are out of the race. You have one bad streak and you could be out of the mix. The AL Central teams all play each other a lot the rest of the way. If they don't win the Division the Sox only chance, with a lot of other teams, will be the 3rd WC as the AL East will take the other 2.

The whole theme the last few trade deadlines is how that no one is will to trade young and under control bats for just about anything, suggesting that a guy like Gonzalez could have absolutely had value in a trade for a starting pitcher who could help this year, especially if he was never going to have a place to play with the White Sox anyway. I would absolutely listen to the idea that a guy like Prosek will be a potential huge piece of a future playoff team, making it worth the gamble, but also it is fair to remember this point in time as a point where we could have helped THIS team TODAY without hurting either today's team, or tomorrows. Now if they want a legit SP, they will have to dig deeper into the minors to do it, in all likelihood.

I am not going to claim to like it all, but if my kids want me to check something out, I listen and keep and open mind. Hell if I can see someone like Paul McCartney in his 80s at a Taylor Swift concert, what room do I have to claim everything from today sucks?

Up until about 2-3 years ago I was up to date on damn near everything music wise. And I genuinely thought ‘id always be hip to it’ it’s remarkable that the second I hit 30 how little newer stuff resonates with me. Is what it is I guess but it genuinely bums me out. Like I wish I was as jacked up about Geese or whatever as the younguns.

I think it would be foolish to trade Carlson anytime soon. He's about to be 20 and isn't close to creating any issues with roster management. While I agree that he is the most likely man out, its not a decision that needs to be made right now.

If trading Gonzalez stings all I can say is get used to it because more prospects are going to get moved.

You’re assuming there are no injuries, which is something no one can say but is how he get his first stint in the majors. I’d also argue that he’d be a better DH option than Benintendi and would have made room for him by next year.

DeGrom hasn’t given up more than 2 ER in his last three starts but that has been facing pansy offenses like the angels, marlins, and indians. He’s been getting roughed up with around 6 ER when facing teams like the padres and Yankees. I say we hang a 5 spot on him in the 5th or 6th inning. If Feddie can limit the damage to 4 runs or less we should be good to go. And hopefully the rest of the league keeps up what happened today… all other AL central teams lose while our Sox win! LETS FUCKING GO BOYS!! Give me a 5 game divisional lead by 8/1!

What am I missing? Guy has almost 100 starts and has put up less than 6 WAR and almost half would be in this season (he is on track for just under 3 WAR). Why am I giving up a top 10 pick like Carlson for him plus something else or a guy like McDougall who I personally think has front of the rotation potential (with health the big question mark) ? If we want to sell Hagen because we think there is more bust…maybe…although I’d be more prone to use Hagen and something else for a player more impactful. I guess I don’t get all these people calling Detmers a front of the rotation guy…he makes Javy Vasquez look like a stud.
