I mentioned it around the deadline, but this has kind of a 2020/2012 vibe where the pitching was extended past where their talents and abilities were, and it wouldn't surprise me if a lot of these guys had struggles. The offense I am not as worried about, as there are some definite boom and bust guys in a bust cycle. The pitching just has so many guys either at their limits, or regressing to their historic norms that this shouldn't be a surprise.

Sometimes these losses feel good because you put up a good fight but came up short. This feels real shitty because it feels like the offense did their job and the pitching was absolute clown shoes. Something needs to be done with Martin. It’s past the alarm bells, he has no control anymore and he is getting torched before the Sox get to hit.

I didn’t say he “hates” it here. He “may be” coming to the realization that here isn’t where-its-at-man. The White Sox are (at best) an average team with much more rebuilding needed over the next several years. I’ll repeat: this season until now has been a lark and won’t be repeated anytime soon.

Don’t miss with your fastball at the guys head two times in a row and it’s not an issue. Sometimes it’s ok to blame a Sox player for sucking.

A lot of things are taking place at exactly the wrong time of the season, pitchers hitting their limits, bad weather, a lot of extra inning games and what sure seems to be a lack of starting pitching that wasn't really addressed at the deadline. Not a good combination.

I don't know if it would have changed the ultimate outcome of the game, but the umps affected the game by that ejection.

Historically it seems the Sox always seem to be short in a vital area and it always seems to bite them in the ass. In the early 90's it was another good hitter for the lineup behind Thomas and Ventura. The players, like McDowell told me, though McGuire was coming, but then Frank wouldn't move to DH and that went out the window. In 96 it was a bad bullpen and the Sox did nothing at the deadline which saw them blow an almost certain wild card spot. Then in the early 2000's, 2003 comes to mind, it was the lack of a decent backend starter. I still remember Kenny Williams saying the price for Kenny Rogers was "too high." Rogers went to the Twins and helped them win the division. In 2020 as mentioned it was little starting pitching. As other have said it seems to be happening again.

Feels like a team that needed to add another SP at the deadline.

Mune signed with a team that lost 100 + games last year and was was predicted to win 70-75 games this year so I’m sure he has to be happy that he made the right decision.

Easy to get down on these guys after a rough series like this. The problem now is that Detroit and the Cubs could do a lot of damage to the Sox taking them out of first place. It would have been nice to go into those series on a bit of a roll instead of with finger pointing and uncertainty.

Yeah being on a first place team and seemingly having a ton of fun while it happens seems rough. Just some insane takes pop up in here sometimes.

Losing 2 to the Reds at home after we have had to face so many tough teams is such a gut punch

The Guggenheim/Dodgers and Fenway Sports groups are much bigger and better examples. Better to run the Bulls AND Sox as a business, where profitability always comes second to championships? Are you also fighting Jeffrey Bezos on his new 30% stake in Liverpool, or Mark Zuckerberg’s super yacht repeatedly ignoring sos calls near Alaska? Trump’s son in law’s brother Josh Kushner couldn’t buy FIFA/Word Cup last week, só now he and former Disney head Bob Iger laid out $12.5 billion for the Lakers barely a year after Mark Walter/Dodgers bought them for just $10 billion, a cap gain much bigger than the entire value of the White Sox franchise. There’s no such thing as a Bill Veeck mom and pop operation any more in sports. Even the Indiana Hoosiers football team costs $50-60 million per year now.

I think it's more an erudite need to craft the perfect, sarcastic sentence. I find both Jim and James a bit forced, but they've provided the most thorough coverage of White Sox baseball, along-side James and Ian of FutureSox. There was a time 40 years ago I'd look up the Boston Globe online to read Peter Gammons' column for any mention of the White Sox. If James is going back to the Athletic, the more power to him, and us.

I think part of why he was so effective with it tonight is that the scouting report was that he no longer throws it that much, nor does he throw it all that effectively. Reds hitters looked clueless when they saw the pitch.

Season high 10 strikeouts and 22 whiffs. 22 whiffs on 45 swings is ridiculous. (49%). He threw 20 changeups today, responsible for 5 of the K's and 8 of the whiffs (on 10 swings). His previous season high for whiffs on the changeup was 4 on 11 swings. Previous season high for K's on the change was 2. The last time he had 22 whiffs in a start was April 2024. 5Ks on the changeup is a career high (previous high was 4 back in 2023).
