  1. And? You don’t punt a game in a division chase against someone chasing you.
  2. 5 points
  3. Dec. 19, 2025 Carlos Rodriguez has been named an assistant general manager with the White Sox, joining Josh Barfield and Jin Wong in similarly titled roles they have previously held in Chicago. They report to general manager Chris Getz, who has gone outside the organization to bring in all three executives. Rodriguez joins the White Sox after 16 seasons (2010-25) with the Tampa Bay Rays, including the last six as a vice president. He was promoted to vice president, assistant general manager in November 2022 after serving as vice president of baseball operations in 2022 and vice president of player development and international scouting from 2019-21. He left the Rays at the end of the ‘25 season to pursue other opportunities. Scott Merkin article Dec. 18th,2025 TRADE DETAILS White Sox get: OF Tristan Peters Rays get: Player to be named later or cash considerations Peters, 25, was designated for assignment by the Rays on Tuesday to make room for the addition of left-hander Steven Matz. Peters slashed .266/.355/.429 last season for Triple-A Durham with 28 doubles, three triples, 15 home runs, 76 RBIs, 73 runs scored, 65 walks and 11 stolen bases over a career-high 136 games. He also appeared in four games with the Rays after making his debut on Aug. 8 at Seattle, finishing 0-for-12 with seven strikeouts. Notice how close the dates are even though the Sox got Peters the day before Rodriquez was hired I'm pretty sure he had a lot to do with the Peters acquisition.
  4. Sox are amazing this year. Man it's hard to believe the sadness of the tank years has faded away. Sox have so much talent it's incredible led by my grinder faves: Antonacci, Meidroth and Banana Ball Man. Peters is such a breath of fresh air. Who the hell is responsible for bringing him aboard. Getz is GM of the year; our manager is manager of the year. I still say Sox-Cubs WS is finally coming.
  5. You keep doing this but tying the Sox winning percentage to Castillo is ridiculous. He isn’t helping and the team is winning despite his awful performances. You know this as well, yet you keep making this nonsensical argument. Yes, it can still be a bad trade just because the Sox are in first place. Also, no one wants Jerry to continue paying for old washed-up has-been’s and retreads that are nearing retirement. This has been the Sox way for ages. Lip makes this argument all the time and he’s right. Baseball is a young man’s game. Stop acquiring the James Shields of baseball that are on the steps to retirement.
  6. It’s ok to acknowledge that Getz had a great offseason and put this team in a position to compete faster than anyone expected, while also acknowledging that some of his deadline moves were questionable or even bad. Mason Adams may not have a high ceiling, but he was a consensus org top 20 prospect. I don’t get this need to belittle him to defend Getz. Doyle has been terrible for two seasons and is the definition of a project. It’s very fair to question why we felt now was the right time to acquire and try to fix him. The same applies for Castillo. Value wise it looked an L on day one because the Mariners were desperate to move his salary. It’s still too early to fully judge the trade, but right now it looks very bad for us. Hopefully that change, but again, as Getz himself stated it’s hard to fix guys mid season. Giving up Boston Smtih for that luxury remains baffling to me. I’m a Getz supporter in general, but candidly I didn’t love our deadline.
  7. It is an awful comparison. The Sox acquired Vargas because they weren’t vying for a playoff spot, Vargas had multiple years of control remaining, and they had time to try to fix him. Castillo was acquired to improve the rotation right now in a playoff run, as well as improve it for next season, because he’s gone after next season. He doesn’t have much time to figure it out. And thus far, he has been awful through 5 starts with 1 good start. There is no guarantee that the Sox are in this same position next season, so Castillo’s starts right now are even more vital to the team since next year is not guaranteed. It isn’t a good comparison of trades at all.
  8. They also turn the double play if Hicks doesn't take forever to throw the ball to Colson. Then when he did, it was in a bad spot. Not making excuses for Colson, but they both share some blame on that play.
  9. Can’t keep batting a guy 2nd when he’s around .150 over last month
  10. Not going to be mad at the Sox taking 2 of 3 on the road and Cleveland losing 2 of 3 at home.
  11. Clever man, Ron proofing the game thread on a Saturday Night.
  12. And why are we taking on risky "projects" when we're trying to make a pennant run? It's so stupid.
  13. It's still dumb as hell. Why are we trading for a supposed 33 year old "project" who was one of the worst pitchers in the MLB when we are trying to make a playoff run? It doesn't help up this year and probably hurts is next year given his salary. Trying to justify the trade is pure cope. Getz got too cute and got taken advantage of.
  14. Absolutely, now we have a guy that is sucking this season and way overpaid for next year.
  15. Gotta make this one Hurricane proof somehow
  16. no way I even consider extending him until next year, not unless he takes a massive discount which I doubt his agent would do that nor should he
  17. As bad as the bats have been in this series i will take the 2 out of 3. That being said they need to start hitting the ball against the Astros.
  18. I just wish the deadline never happened.
  19. Looks like a loss but 99% of us would have been happy taking 2 up in the land of sky blue waters and picking up a game in the standings. The bats have to come alive in Houston where at this point I’ll be happy with a split and a 4-3 road trip.
  20. The Vargas trade did stink for 1.5 seasons. It took him that time to improve. But you are once again making another poor comparison. Castillo does not have the same time as Vargas did to improve as he’s only here for one more season. Castillo is also almost ten years older than Vargas. Players don’t get better nearing their mid 30’s. Thats retirement time. You seem to be thinking like KW and Hahn with Castillo — that an aging veteran starter is going to bring the magic back. It looks like the Shields trade all over again.
  21. I would hold off on offering Mune an extension. He looks lost
  22. https://www.fangraphs.com/players/luis-castillo/15689/stats/pitching You don't sink all the way to 0.4 from previous heights for no reason (and lose your rotation spot with that $108 million contract.) SEA was the #1 run suppressing environment on the planet for at least three years running. And he will be 34 at the beginning of next season...yet seems to possess the very opposite of Chris Sale's fountain of youth.
  23. Mune you need to bust out of it in the worst way right now.
  24. 9-1 and Lugo is out after JRam's first HR since June 6th. I expected CLE to win this one with Messick going. appreciate KC for winning the series at least. Jays will have a lot of incentive to do the same and Cease/Soriano should give them a good chance.
  25. I wouldn't call an opener a bullpen game
  26. You're using the teams record to insinuate that a trade for a pitcher who has been worth a whopping -0.3 WAR in 5 starts wasn't a bad trade. You aren't being serious, so I didn't give a serious response. Be better.
  27. Just win baby! Were down to the last 27 games and I don't care how it's done or how it looks. I don't care that the whole team, minus Benny, looked like crap at the plate yesterday. All that matters is that it was a W. They have to manage and play every game left as if it is a game 7 win or go home. This is so great to have the Sox playing meaningful games in September. Hopefully the fans will come out in droves to the last 13 at home and help push this team over the finish line.
  28. At this stage I would rather see the White Sox in the playoffs and have the Cubs missing the playoffs.
  29. I'm not going to say we are a lock to make the playoffs but I think a historic and unprecedented collapse would have to happen to prevent us from making it. We are 72-63. 27 games left. If we go 14-13, very likely given the schedule, we will be at 86-76. I actually think there is a very realistic path to 90 wins.
  30. I want to see brooms tomorrow. Brooms and wands…this really is a magical season isn’t it.
  31. Yeah, with so many infielders and if the Sox go after a power hitting leftfielder, I think Ant Man is the odd man out.
  32. Yeah they're better off letting him get more experienced in LF than play him full time at 2B. Lot easier to hide someone in LF.
  33. I’m really baffled as to why they didn’t call up Thorpe to have him make a start today.
  34. They've won a lot of bullpen games since the beginning of the year. It's part of why they are in 1st place.
  35. Hey, here is an idea: STOP WALKING GUYS
  36. fucking walks and middling defense. ant has zero range.
  37. His swing is broken. He’s cutting off his swing on anything outside, and he’s missing fastballs right down the middle.
  38. Thorpe and Sandlin will get shots before Noah this year IMO. Thorpe is about ready, and Sandlin absolutely dominated last night.
  39. 2 points
Hou 2-seed 23 Cle division 23 (goes down by 3 next head to head win) Bal WC 22
  40. A pope, a wizard, and a Sox fan walk into a bar…
  41. Vargas was just 24-25 and a year removed from Top 100 lists, Castillo on the descent side of his 30’s and paid far more than his production level. 2022-23 were his last objectively strong/solid seasons. Two totally different trades. It doesn’t automatically mean that they have the Midas touch all of a sudden. Especially with pitching.
  42. I'm assuming you're trolling, actually. Senseless? The team's in first place. Their winning pct is better after the TDL than before. Why do you need me to validate your narrative? The team obviously had a plan on how to change his pitch selection. He needs to execute. All the rest is meaningless. I don't care how much money Jerry Reinsdorf pays these guys. I find it's the guys who scream about how cheap JR is that suddenly scream about JR spending money. Y'all scream when he doesn't spend money, then y'all scream when he takes money on. Pick a lane.
  43. Your first place Chicago White Sox came into Minnesota clearly understanding the assignment, and win a well pitched game 2 to secure the series. 72-63 sets a new high water mark of 9 games over .500. Their current W4 is the longest active streak in the AL. They lead the season series 6-3, and need just 1 more win in the remaining 4 games to clinch the tiebreaker. Huddy recorded a save on back to back days, first Sox to do so this season. Sox are 7-3 in the last 10 games where Fedde has pitched 3+ innings. Miggy has a 15 game on base streak. Newcomb has a 13.2 inning scoreless streak. Both are the 3rd longest active. Benintendi recorded all 3 of the Sox hits today, including a go ahead HR. He's 5-8 with 4 RBI in the series so far.
