Watching the White Sox today makes one realize how long it will be before they are a good team.

Schultz and every future starter should be groomed to be able to go 180 innings their rookie year.

No No No! When is this dysfunctional organization going to quit rushing SP's up to be relievers and screw up there progress. Ok , it worked one time when they took Sale up rapidly and made him a closer. Then fortunately Sale still became a stud starter. However it failed miserably with Kopech and Crochet. When are they going to learn a lesson? Please please please NO on Schultz.

I have always wanted them to try. Fact is, he can't stand up to the reliever workload. Maybe piggyback starter with someone like Scholtens once every 5 days would allow him to pitch 80-100 innings. That would be valuable to a team that currently has 2.5 starters.

We have one position player that is on pace for more than 2 WAR and that is Robert, who will probably finish around top 5 in the AL at 5.5-6.5. Jake might be able to squeek over 2 if he can stay healthy and keep his wRC+ around 120. Our biggest signing ever, Benitendi, is on pace for 1.3 fWAR. The rest of our "core" like TA, Moncada and Eloy aren't even worth mentioning really. They all, for various reasons, are barely even 1 WAR players anymore. Just a really shocking turn of events for guys that looked like "can't miss" players just a few years ago.

The egos of the FO will never admit their mistakes because they don't have to be critical of themselves. Plus the FO is inept and really bad at any proper evaluations. They can live in constant excuses and rationalizations for their mistakes, because their boss JR will never criticize or fire them. What a gig if you can get it.

The Remillard thing is bizarre considering they have frequently spent $2-$3 mill on utility players (and of course the Leury contract). I think it's like relievers - they don't break the bank and they prefer "proven veterans." It fails, but they don't recognize their failures as a failure in process.

Rushing him into the majors; rushing him back twice from injury. Never giving him a chance to start. Overall stunting his career due to FO laziness and general effery.

It is really really hard to see how Kopech ever turns into a good starting pitcher. His command is still awful but his stuff isn’t special anymore either.

You are absolutely correct on that. Yeah I guess when TA got that home run last night, everything is back to normal. I guess Grifol doesn't think that Benintendi with his .284 BA and .350 OBP isn't that important for the leadoff role, compared to Tim's .245 BA and .286 OBP. Not to mentioned Benintendi leads the team in walks with 36 to Tim's 19 walks. LOL!

Totally believable statement: Garret Crochet would be a top of the rotation starter in 2024 if the White Sox hadn’t ever tried to make him a reliever. They cost him $200 million+ for a middle reliever in 2021.

Will he have to kick Kenny Williams’ ass like Chris Sale for the opportunity? Or is it on Rick Hahn to tussle with Garrett if Kenny retires in October? If the latter, they should fight at SoxFest to give the fans something entertaining in 2024. In any event, the White Sox have already wasted four years of his and Kopech’s development to satisfy Tony La Russia’s bullpen fetishes. Can’t blame him and it makes sense at this point to give it one last shot to salvage to at this point is another completely wasted Rick Hahn first round pick.

God knows they'll need SP next season. Get the kid into a good throwing program this off season, stretch a bit in Spring Training, and start him in the minors for April and May to get him the length he'll need.

Giving those big money extensions so the Sox could avoid having to pay arbitration figures for a year or two really blew up in their face when those guys decided they didn't have to work so hard anymore.

Baseball isn't football or basketball. Jacob de Grom was a SS in college. What players did in college doesn't matter. Professional teams have time to develop players in the minors leagues but for some reason the Sox decided to skip that step with Crochet. They never gave him the opportunity to show what he could be.

Don't wonder, it's not there. Player evaluations are horrible in both the scouting to even drafting quality prospects. Then once they are in our farm system, they often times incorrectly evaluate which ones are good or bad. Then if they do determine they are potentially very good, our player development coaches are inept and will slow or ruin their progress. As we've said ad nauseum, until we get a younger modern day Pres/GM, from outside the Sox org that knows how to evaluate talent and get it successfully developed...this will never change.

Wasn’t a situational reliever - they chided him for not recognizing the value that they held in Bradford. He was a legitimate reliever, and they chided the Sox for failing to look beyond his unconventional delivery. So they chided the Sox for being stuck in the pre-analytical mindset and being behind the times. Chad Bradford was the example.

I totally agree with you and stated this a few times already. Schultz just went 4 shutout innings last night. It makes no sense to not at least bump him to Winston-Salem for the rest of the season.

You're absolutely right. That is major part of the culture problem on the Sox. Our scouting and drafting is seriously flawed. The good teams like TB, LAD, and others make sure they scout the right players, that besides being good baseball players, they are also good solid people with a strong desire to win and strong mental toughness to not let excuses hold them back.

Yep! Either of them has the potential to come back and bite us bad.

I’m 100% open to the idea if Crochet is willing to spend a year in AAA. And honestly, it’s further reason to punt the 2024 season. With the recent trades and this past draft class, we could actually fill out our minor rotations with legit prospects. Let those guys have a year to develop without risk of rushing them to the majors in some Hail Mary attempt to win a garbage division. Michael Kopech absolutely came back from 2020 as a guy who needed innings desperately. In 2018, his control was terrible for the first half of the year, I will ask you to go find the game in June where he had half a dozen walks in under 5 innings. Then, he got into a groove with his control for 6 starts or so before he was called up, and then his elbow blew. Aside from this injury, this looked like a guy with promise, but who benefited A LOT from getting innings. What did the white Sox do post injury? Denied him innings, put him straight into the bullpen. F*** innings for development. Hahn is a god. 2021 title worth everything! The kid in Oliver Twist who says “please sir I want some more”? He asked Hahn “please sir I want to build my arm muscles” and Hahn’s laugh in reply set off car alarms across Illinois. Michael Kopech’s worst enemy is Rick Hahn. He demanded things that would destroy Kopech’s career and cost him hundreds of millions of dollars in exchange for his 2021 bullpen season. This set of decisions destroyed his career exactly as expected. Now you are blaming Kopech for the decisions made by Rich Hahn. There is no better way to serve Hahn than this defense.

Quintana (and Veal) were full minor league free agents, so they had cleared waivers entirely. It looks like he was a 40 man roster casualty and the White Sox signed him in Mid November to a 40 man roster contract. Keith Law actually likes all the moves the Sox have made and actually said Lee may be the very best move. This is...weird.

Yea he was real mediocre for us. Sox are none the worse for being without Kelly, Graveman and Lynn. Really, the only loss is Giolito. I'm glad to be done with all 3 of them.
