Orioles make too much sense, IMO. I like the idea of the Sox getting some of their close-to-the-majors guys, because they can’t really develop the ones far away.7 points

India would be a terrible move for the white Sox. Good but not great player with his mlb control already burning away. If they got India, they’d also need a guy like Cease.4 points

This right here x100. Firing Renteria and bringing in a corpse who lives by baseball’s silly “unwritten rules” broke the spirit of this team. It was an energetic, fun, “change the game” kind of a team under Renteria and I truly believe they would have been much better off leaving him alone and bringing in some pitching reinforcements. It wasn’t Renteria’s fault that the major free agent signing at the time, Mr “Winning Culture” Dallas Keuchel s%*# the bed in the playoffs against Oakland.4 points

I believe Chris Getz should have scheduled a press conference welcoming the new members of the coaching staff and his other significant FO hires, followed by his vision for the offseason, 2024 and for the next 3-5 years after having a few months to assess the situation in his new role. Then his answers to follow up questions would have context vs. people speculating what he plans to do to improve the team. Ten years of Hahn created a Chernobyl type situation. Most reasonable people are willing to give Getz slack and time if he is honest and communicates a reasonable plan and timeframe.4 points

Lmao come on. That's just ridiculous. His lowest fWAR the past 3 seasons was 3.7, which was last season. Somehow he has zero trade value now?3 points
-
Given the current state of the organization, I think it would be really risky to hold Cease until the deadline. One serious shoulder or elbow injury and you’re left with nothing.3 points
-
That’s their problem then. Cease is durable, has good stuff, and is relatively cheap for the next 2 seasons. Any contender should want a guy like that in their rotation.3 points

There are I think 5 active threads right now where this could go. As far as I can tell it is easily the most popular answer to the original post.3 points

And a pinch of Gonorrhea. Say what you want about Renteria, but at least his teams played hard [remember ''Ricky's boys don't quit?]. While many of his managerial moves literally made me scream, his marginally talented teams were more fun to watch than almost anything I saw in the 2023 White Sox.3 points

On a team loaded with unlikables Grifol is about as likable as Root Canal with a case of swollen hemorrhoids thrown in.3 points

One would also think the O’s bowing out of the playoffs quickly after a fantastic season might make them hug those prospects a little less tight. I think they’re far and away the best fit for Cease.2 points
-
Absolutely — plus it’s a clear sellers’ market now, meaning the upside from the deadline represents less of a premium than in an average year.2 points
-
I don't see trading Cease as a good idea right now. Are we trying to lose 110 games - so we can tank for an at best 10th pick in the draft due to the large market rules? And it's selling low on Dylan. Let him start the season with the Sox, and it's probably only going to increase his trade value. Possibly in a massive way. Like it or not, his trade value is probably a small fraction of what it would have been a year ago.2 points
-
Failing to trade everyone except Robert is malpractice. This team will lose 100+ next year with or without Cease. Get max value now.2 points
-
Half those teams weren't in the market at the deadline. They were actually smart not to trade him then.2 points
-
Just makes too much sense for both sides. The only challenge is Elias has been very measured in terms of go for it moves, although the team is now clearly in its competitive window so maybe he gets more aggressive.2 points

You would have to think any team trying to win is interested. They should get a decent haul for him.2 points
-
It was never a team. It was a bunch of individuals that didn’t like each other. Watch the Anderson All Star announcement, nobody cared. They didn’t like him. Roberts couldn’t be bothered to learn the coaches names. Moncada was more interested in partying. Middleton told us on his way out. It was a cultural disaster. And they weren’t talented enough to overcome lack of teamwork.2 points
-
This is the crossover with politics, you can get away with garbage statements if a reporter isn’t willing to ask obvious follow up questions.” ”He got a great opportunity, one we couldn’t offer him, so we had to let him take it” ”excuse me Mr. Boyer, I’d just like to ask a follow up. The White Sox are in the third biggest city in the country and they’re this broadcasters hometown team. How could the same job in Detroit be a better opportunity than his job here?”2 points

It’s so true. Pedro is somehow worse than 80 year old dude who can’t stay awake in the dugout. Just mind boggling that he wasn’t canned after last year.2 points

Did you read the Orioles board linked? They don't even want to trade Kjerstad straight up for Cease. If I were not a fan of the Sox I wouldn't be interested in acquiring him for anything more than a bag of baseballs.1 point

Nothing is worse than his being the main driver in cancelling the 1994 season.1 point

If ever there was a complete housecleaning job needed, this is it. You could see it on the players faces last season, they hated being a member of the White Sox while probably hating each other and the GM hates them too. I’d love to really know exactly how things deteriorated to this level. I would bet that every player is praying that they get traded and I’m joining in on the prayers, I can’t think of one guy that it would bother me if he was traded.1 point
-
People keep floating Brendan Donovan’s name, I like him but feel like the centerpiece for Cease should have more upside than he does.1 point
-
I really think something like that makes sense. I’m torn between Cowser and Kjerstad due to his power potential. I know getting more athletic is a priority but LH power should be as well as long as we play at the Rate.1 point
-
It was a small sample size, but Cowser looked horrific at the MLB level this season. Would rather go for Kjerstad personally.1 point
-
I agree, I was going to mention that but it was a little earlier than the All Star break but then again I guess it left a bad taste about TLR among the players, it sure didn’t help and then Yermin was sent down to the minors later on.1 point

He has acknowledged in a prior post that the price is lesser after 2023 than 2022.1 point

Getz and Grifol have absolutely no credibility. JR is so out of touch with the fan base and lies constantly. Absolutely a rebuild while talking out their ass they are competing in 24.1 point

November 12, 1959 - He helped lead the White Sox to their first pennant in 40 years and because of his contributions on the field and in the clubhouse, Nellie Fox became the first member of the franchise to be named American League M.V.P. Fox hit .306 that year with 191 hits, 34 doubles, 70 RBI’s and 71 walks (as compared to only 13 strike outs!) Fox also led the league in put outs, assists, total chances and fielding percentage for all second basemen. He also was named to the All-Star team that season. Nellie would get 16 first place votes by the Baseball Writers Association of America and beat out teammate, shortstop Luis Aparicio, 295 points to 255. Pitcher Early Wynn, who’d win the Cy Young Award that season, would finish third giving the Sox the top three spots in the final voting. November 12, 2020 – It was a very strange baseball season but one thing that didn’t change was the excellence of Sox first baseman Jose Abreu. From start to finish of the abbreviated 60 game season the big slugger produced and because of that he was named the American League M.V.P. by the Baseball Writers Association of America. Abreu finished with 374 total points beating out the Indians Jose Ramirez. He became the fourth White Sox player to win M.V.P. honors, joining Frank Thomas (1993-94), Dick Allen ('72) and Nellie Fox ('59). Abreu's 60 RBIs over 60 games led the A.L. for a second consecutive season. He finished second with 19 home runs and fourth with a .317 batting average. He also ranked fifth with a .987 OPS and was the only A.L. player to rank in the Top 5 in hits (76, first), RBIs, slugging percentage (.617, first), extra-base hits (34, first), total bases (148, first), home runs, average and OPS. A highlight of his season was six home runs in a three-game series against the Cubs at Wrigley Field including four straight over two games.1 point

I'm not listening to anything to Getz says at this point, and that really has nothing to do with him. Been a fan for a long time and been through countless rebuilding programs. They usually produce limited short-term results and long-term BS. Just tired of hearing all the nonsense. Results are what is important. Talk means nothing.1 point
-
Which makes total sense. There is no need to rush a Robert trade. However, it’s better to move Cease now if the value is there. And no one else really has enough value to matter sadly. Also, no one should be surprised by payroll cuts. No way Jerry wasn’t slashing payroll after a decrease in attendance.1 point

Mismanaging is in the eye of the beholder when you are still making millions and millions of dollars through domestic and international outlets. The rest of the board is basically JR's age and they are content with the way things are going. And he can only be removed for illegal activity or financial maleficence. With the Sox making money it would be hard to prove what he is doing is wrong. He's not going anywhere...all you can do is hope to outlive current ownership and see what happens.1 point

Hawk and Wimpy were the reason I cheered for the Sox over the Cubs. Announcers are underestimated when it comes to winning fans over.1 point

Interesting with a depleted Sox MLB roster these guys think their careers would be better off in a system that has actual MLB pitchers in front of them.1 point

They do have a point especially with Pedro. What a phony. This guy might be worse than Terry Bevington. They got rid of LaRussa, and didn't upgrade. It boggles my mind how anyone would consider KW or RH for a personnel position ever again.1 point

If the Sox get Kiner-Falefa or Rosario at under $10m, I'll be down for it.1 point

Oh, I know. I meant that as “good riddance,” not upset that he’s gone.1 point
