  1. And here’s to you, Chuckie Robinson, Pedro loves you more than you will know.

  2. Was this supposed to fool people into thinking they traded Moncada?

  4. Puke. Patino is a guy I wanted to give an extended try out in the pen in 2024. Anyone know off hand if Patino has been outrighted before? Guessing not based on the pedigree.

  5. This seems idiotic lol. Plus there is much more dead weight than Luis Patino. He's the EXACT type of guy we should be trying out.

  6. I used to think F*** the cubs every time I would see a cub hat or bumper sticker or whatever. Now I just think "good pick" and dont blame them for being cub fans. We have to be the worse franchise in professional sports history

  8. He's our 5th/6th string catcher. I don't get the negative comments, but yeah should probably improve 1 to 4 on that note.

  9. Yeah the Quintana stuff came to mind for me as well. I’m not expecting them to trade for Cease, but like others have said, the more teams in on him the better.

  10. They would have to give up Johnson or else the deal wouldn’t happen IMO.

  11. The White Sox were once the 8th most valuable franchise in baseball...now they're drifting into the mid teens and will likely end up close to #20-22 if this current malaise continues for the next 2-3 seasons. Facility issues on the horizon as well. Hard to see any place where there's a positive trend besides cutting payroll and selling off assets. That works far better for META to cut overhead than for the White Sox not to reinvest those savings in reinvigorating the entertainment product itself.

  12. We would be trading Cease for money reasons if they don't think they can resign him (and given the White Sox history, there is no reason to think that the White Sox would actually spend market value). Yes, they can argue that it's about flexibility and creating roster depth, addressing other positions, but any deal they make is likely to be primarily for minor league talent. This is not a trade you made, with Cease under control for 2 more years, if "speed is the of the essence".

  14. Didn't know this book came out in 2015. It's basically the follow up to The Lords of the Realm by John Helyar. Sox Machine's Jim Magalus as part of a story today has some fascinating material from it focusing on the Sox signing of Albert Belle and MLB's reaction to it. https://soxmachine.com/2023/12/following-up-white-sox-announce-event-that-isnt-soxfest/ The MLB owners were so angry at JR after it that they removed him from the committee that advised the commissioner on labor matters. Many felt that JR signed Belle for one reason only, to pay the other owners back for ending the labor dispute on terms that JR didn't like.

  16. Gay slur on air. Depends on your definition of forgiveable. I think most things less than murder are forgivable and second chances are awesome. But the Sox are not in a position to be the team to give him a second chance at this momemt IMO.

  17. There must be a requirement of him being added to the 40 man roster by a certain date or else this makes no sense. Unfortunately with Fegan no longer part of the Athletic we may never know why.

  18. The owners have no credibility right now. Over the years seasons have been delayed, interrupted and cancelled due to work stoppages. Then there is the Ohtani deal and other mega rich deals. If they are so poor, they wouldn't be throwing money around like this. And, of course, one that is not throwing money around is Jerry Reinsdorf. Hope everyone is enjoying this tank, Just one of many.

  20. Elijah Evans wrote an article about possible trade packages for Cease. I think he also crowd-sourced on Twitter, a bit. https://www.justbaseball.com/mlb/the-five-best-dylan-cease-mock-trades-for-the-chicago-white-sox/ If you don't want to read the whole thing, here's his 5 teams (he doesn't think the Dodgers will pursue Cease):

  21. I think this is how much teams will operate. Once Yamamoto is off the board, Cease rumors will pickup. He will be more sought after than Snell's soon to be terrible contract imo.

  22. None of those packages would get a Cease deal done^

  23. December 20, 1958 - Bill Veeck got a court ruling in his favor which allowed him and his group to get majority control of the White Sox. Members of the Comiskey family went to court in an effort to stop the sale of the franchise. There would be more court rulings before the sale was made final in March 1959.

  24. Will they pair him with Glen Kuiper? Mike North and of course Ozzie Guillen on Pre/Post. Jim Katt the fill in for vacations.

  25. Jim O'Donnell's column a couple of days ago referenced Thom Brenamann as "on the board as a longshot" hire to replace Jason. Nothing would be more White Sox than that. Jim O’Donnell: Sports talk radio in Chicago – is it still there? (dailyherald.com) paywalled I believe

  26. The LA Times is suggesting if the Dodgers miss out on Yamamoto they would likely add more pitching via trade than overpay for Snell or Montgomery

  27. Agreed. I think this is a case of a team doing their due diligence and someone getting overly excited about it.

  28. I will say this for the Pirates, the current state of the division does make sense for them to go for it NOW. The Brewers are scaling back and getting worse and the Cubs haven't completely opened up their unlimited funds yet. This might be a good 2 year window for them to strike before the Cubs stock up large FAs, the Brewers reset with the Burnes trade, and the Reds fully mature. Over the next 5 years, these might be their best 2 year window. 🤷

  29. Yeah, he doesn't care if the team competes, but he cares about placating TLR and saving money and hiring unqualified people pissing off the fans.

  30. JR knows the Sox aren't going to contend. He says they will but knows they won't. And he doesn't care.

  31. Whatever search they are doing for the new TV PBP job, it would be such a classic white sox organizational move to sign the new individual to only a one year contract ( coinciding with 2024 being the final year of the team’s deal with NBC Sports Chicago), then decide in 2025 that the television broadcast will be a simulcast of the radio broadcast. I do hope Len isn’t the next one to bolt, whether to Detroit or elsewhere, including the northside team whenever Pat retires. I only wish he would adapt more to radio style PBP, especially with repeating the count ahead of the next pitch (i.e. “here’s the 2 and 1 pitch to Vaughn” instead of his habit formed “the pitch”). That aside, I do like Len’s overall call of the game on the ESPN 1000 Hardrock Casino whitesox Network.

  36. Orange County *IS* LA (LA Metro) to everyone from outside the LA area. And even many inside it. It's LA's suburbs. Talking about them like two separate regions sounds weird, like talking about "DuPage County losing its young to Chicago."
