  1. Nothing will increase the ratings. These last few seasons have done irreparable damage to this team that I’m not sure ownership fully understands yet.

  2. Exactly. This is bigger than the team on the field—the brand has been completely destroyed beyond repair. This is a product of not a few bad decisions, but decades of bad decisions. The Sox logo—once endeared—literally angers people now. It’s a symbol of total betrayal as far as baseball and sports “fanship” goes. I do not believe ownership/upper management understands either. We’re still throwing the Nicky Lopez’s of the world at this problem. No one respects what this organization has become. It’s built on endless spins and elusive narratives that turn out to be blatantly false—straight lies. Because of this—any possibility of positive intent is met with disbelief. It will take decades of sustained success to rebuild what these people have done to the White Sox brand.

  3. We're getting to the point where it's going to be less embarrassing wearing a MAGA hat in public over a Sox hat.

  4. As Jerry himself has said he makes enough from his negotiated domestic and international deals to cover his payroll before a single ticket is sold, a single car is parked and a single beer is sold. To understand Jerry it comes down to basically this, he wants to win but he wants to win HIS WAY. That is keeping salaries low since he still feels players make to much money, not hiring top of the line managers and coaches because, as he has said, that don't impact the game that much, not investing that much in the farm system/player development because as he has said he doesn't believe in paying for "potential", he also doesn't want to take the time and effort at his age to really deal with massive change. He has a large ego and that ego won't admit his way simply doesn't work. When I put out my story on the State of the Sox in November 2022, I specifically asked about JR and these were some of the replies: “JR is 86 and he’s in great shape, he looks good, still drives himself around but I just think at this point he simply doesn’t want to be bothered with having to bring in a new front office, maybe he thinks in a few years it won’t matter anyway.” “People, his friends… have tried to tell him what has been going on, “Hawk” Harrelson, the late Ed Farmer… God rest his soul, Darrin Jackson, Scott Reifert (Author’s Note: Scott is the Senior Vice-President for Communications) , Bob Grim and others but it’s just not registering for some reason.” “I wonder what impact his wife passing away earlier this year has had on him.” “JR has told his family he does not want any of his sons owning the team when he is gone. The Bulls are fine he said because they make Michael (Reinsdorf) money but baseball just doesn’t allow you to do that. (no salary cap)” (Author’s Note: Was told by an individual who knew some of the minority owners that “The Sox haven’t lost money in a long time.” A second source agreed with that statement. Seems to be a conflict doesn’t it? Maybe JR isn’t making enough money to suit him vis a vis the Sox?) “With :30 seconds left in their selection time on draft day JR would say things like “You know this college right-handed pitcher has the lowest injury risk.” “In October 2005 some investors asked JR to sell and get out while the going was good, but he wouldn’t.” “Andrew Berlin, twice tried to buy the Sox around 2008 but wasn’t successful.” (Author’s Note: Berlin, grew up a Sox fan and is now the owner of the Cubs farm team in South Bend, Indiana.) “I heard that JR owns 12% of the team but with some of the original investors passing away that has probably gone up to 18%” (Author’s Note: Even though he only owns a small percentage of the franchise Jerry Reinsdorf has absolute authority to run the team as he sees fit. It is written into his contract. That includes selling or not selling the club despite what the other investors wish. The only way he can be removed from his position is if he has done something illegal, appears to be losing his mental faculties or is being financially irresponsible.) “I was talking with an agent and they said the next owner of the Sox can’t be a group of investors, it has to be a big company. That’s why Dennis Gilbert, who tried to buy the Dodgers won’t get the Sox, he can’t come up with enough big money investors” “JR has become oblivious to things and what he’s allowed to happen is sad. He’s probably the most successful owner in Chicago sports history given the Bulls titles and the White Sox one which is dear to his heart, but what has happened the last two years is just sad. He is out-of-touch. And even worse he’s inaccessible. He’s either afraid of having to answer questions or he’s incapable of doing so.” “JR likes the structure he has because it gives him an extra layer of protection from criticism.”

  5. I don't get it. If you don't want to pay the price to sign these high dollar fee agents then invest your money into scouting and development. At least that way you can hopefully produce your own star players and just keep that cycle going. We seemingly like to live in the middle ground of behind the times in scouting/development and only shelling out money for mid tier free agents who wont move the needle. Also, continually hiring unqualified alumni to lead your team/organization.

  6. They had him on the postgame show saying this. Ozzie said he was right, it isn't going to last forever. The season ends in October.

  10. It’s almost like the fact he’s only averaged like 30 IP per year the last 6 year DOES matter.

  14. I am pretty sure that White Sox fans are smart enough to figure out public transit, and if they aren't, how to use one of the million apps for finding a parking place in an urban setting. Honestly, holding the idea that Sox fans aren't smart enough to use a freaking train is pretty insulting to the fan base.

  15. No, no we are not. Its almost like he is wearing out already. Im shocked I tell you. IP this season each start... 6, 7, 5, 4, 3 with less effectiveness each start. I wonder what the issue is....

  16. I mean, he has a 3.86 FIP, 2.86 xERA, 34 SO/6 BB and is 4th in the league in Ks and likely will lead the league after tonight. I think he's pretty good.

  17. Pretty much every fringe guy we have is asked to come up and rake, because they will be an absolute negative in every other aspect. And then you break down the hitting and they'll have to absolutely rake by making an insane amount of contact or power, because they come up with no discipline, no concept of pitch selection. They swing a lot in the zone, they swing a lot out of the zone, they swing a lot. They are all just different flavors of danny palka, except many without the power. We've seen the As put out horrendous payrolls, we saw the year the padres played like 5 rule 5 selections for half the year. None were as bad as this team is. The guy in charge, was the guy in charge for getting players ready for the bigs. He may have not been given the talent to be a normal bad team, but I think any other GM from a normal team could have avoided "worst offense in history, even when offenses were bad because they were fighting off symptoms of syphilis and extreme dehydration"

  18. Oh, absolutely I think a new Sox owner would want the team to play at the South Loop site instead of being locked in long-term at Guaranteed Rate Field in an area that just doesn't draw much visitors outside of attending a baseball game. Catering to fans who want a ballpark surrounded by a sea of parking lots isn't working out and isn't a good business model going forward. My guess is that if the team was sold in the next year or two (let's say Jerry suddenly passes) and The 78 lot was still available, they'd find a way to come up with $1B or so in private funding to make that ballpark happen because they realize that would boost market share and revenue for this team plus give a huge boost to the value of the franchise. As far as whether a new owner would move them out of state. I wouldn't say the chances of it are zero. The other markets don't compare to Chicago now, but they are booming. What if the new owner has roots in North Carolina or San Antonio? It's not implausible that they'd buy the team and move it to their home state. Utah has given the green light to spend $900M in public funds toward a new MLB stadium - do people really think that there isn't a buyer out there who wouldn't jump at the chance to play there instead of being the forgotten stepchild in Chicago being forever overshadowed by the Cubs and playing at what will soon be a 40-year old generic ballpark with not much around it?

  21. Yep, if the diehards on here don’t want to watch, no way are the casuals watching. I can’t even imagine how bad attendance will be the rest of the year and next year. Can’t wait to see a payroll around 80 million.

  31. The Burger trade was awful. It’s fine they dealt him, but he had actual value and getting someone who might not recover his stuff is bad.

  32. Hahn-core! Thats what we’re calling the guys who came over from last summer’s trades right?
    2 points
  33. Hahn did a solid on his final trades. Even Burger for Eder is a wash at worst right now. Sure, Burger had a solid half season for Miami but he's also a 28 year old DH. Eder could still be something. Hahn was good at one thing, and that was selling.

  34. He is only good when he can top out in triple digits. 96-97 won't cut it for him. His fastball is too hittable. Seems crazy to say that a LHP is no good sitting at 96-97 but it's true with him. Back to the bullpen for Crochet.

  39. The City of Chicago just made an offer to the White Sox, they will give them $200 million to leave the City. The State of Illinois will kick in an additional $400 million if they move out of Illinois.

  40. I just don't believe baseball stupid is it. Marcus Semien appeared baseball stupid here. Omar Narvaez was considered baseball stupid and a terrible defensive catcher, only to have the brewers and mariners work to turn him into a defensive plus catcher before his offense cratered. He's another great example of needing way better offense than expected to stick, but the team doing nothing to make them more well rounded, just ditching them. I could definitely buy that the Cardinals scout for defense much better than the white sox. But then I also see how they reacted with horror at how bad Jordan Walker was at defense last year in the outfield, and put a full court press on to improve it and he did. He is capable of it because he's young and a good athlete, and no I don't think the cardinals could turn Gavin Sheets into that. But for all the rest of the guys ... the white sox think that you develop by playing a lot of ball games. But that thesis has failed man. That's not enough, especially when you have so rid yourself of any players who know how to do it differently. Sorry - Jimmy rollins came in and the damn house of cards nearly fell apart.

  41. I 100% want my favorite team to lose games. I legit root for them to lose every single day. When I check the app and it’s an off day, I’m disappointed because there’s no chance for them to lose that day. Hoping for the inevitable no hitter soon. Ideally against some complete no-namer. If the owner, GM, and manager can all be this careless and incompetent screw it. I feel bad for some of the players but…they’re also the ones making stupid mistakes and the paychecks are still rolling in.

  42. Yea that’s the thing for me with him, this is an easy “Wilson just didn’t have it, I thought I could get through with Kopech and Wilson and it just didn’t happen” and instead he makes up some bullshit about the part of the order Wilson had to face. Newsflash, it was the back half of the order, 5-6-7. Shouldn’t be the scary part all he had to do was acknowledge that his guys didn’t get job done and move on

  43. All the folks trollishly agitating for the Sox to relocate to Nashville should read the Coyotes reddit page and see all the pain and anguish it caused, or just watch the final sign tv off. It will not be funny when reality hits.

  46. The reason Getz got the job is because he would take it and kiss the ring. Payroll is down huge. The first question any candidate from another team would have asked him would have been about payroll and budget. If JR was straight wtih them, they would have ended their candidacy right after they got done eating the meal JR bought them.
