  1. Sox fans have not been ridiculously patient with the rebuild. The Atros who many people use an example had 3 or 4 100 loss seasons during the rebuild. The Sox have had one. People can be pessimistic but let's not go overboard.

  2. NOBODY, and I mean NOBODY, not one person, from the White Sox organization should ever say anything even remotely negative about the impatience the Sox fan base is having with this rebuild. Not after only one playoff appearance and just one measly playoff win in the 14 years since the World Series in '05. They should be grateful they even still have a fan base.

  3. Since when does a beautiful house take 5 years to build? Seriously though, I'm not sure who he's referring to. Sox fans have been ridiculously patient with this rebuild and the ones I know at least, they still are. Those guys have gotten more fan support for this rebuild that they ever deserved.

  4. The only problem I see with his house building analogy when it comes to the Sox is that in our scenario is like having faith in a builder that accidentally knocked our house down while doing simple repairs. I was/still am all in favor of a rebuild. It was the right thing to do. I just don’t have any faith in our front office to do the job correctly. And I don’t think it’s unreasonable to be pessimistic about the situation. Obviously it’s 100% out of my control and I just have to accept it, but I find it pretty damn hard to be positive

  5. Look. Here's what it is atleast with me. My patience is pretty low because this is the same group of guys that haven't been able to build a winning club the entire time they've been here. Kenny sure but that was a while ago. If those guys had been fired and a new group had been brought in with a good track record there would be much much more patience on my end. But right now especially after the Manny debacle they can kick rocks. I'm going to be critical of them until I start seeing results.

  6. What concerns me are injuries. They tend not to stop as you get older. I know Kopech and Rodon and Dunning will have no issues with their TJS even though White Sox minor league OF Adofo did. Anderson will never get hurt again. Eloy getting injured all the time will just stop. Robert's injuries will just stop, on and on and on. Hopefully, they all become healthy and stay there, but odds are it isn't going to happen that way.

  10. While this is only year 3 of the "Official rebuild", this is year 7 of being below .500 and year 11 missing the playoffs. The Astros were under .500 for 6 consecutive years and had a 9 year playoff drought during their rebuild. The Cubs were only below .500 for 5 years, and their playoff drought was only 6.

  11. I agree with this in total. And the Stone rant is typical of this organization. The team stinks and the organization lashes out at the fans. He is the last person to lecture me on anything. Don't tell me I have to like it when the team loses another game 10-1 or drops four in a row to one of the worst teams in baseball. What do the White Sox lead the league in? Blaming fans when things go wrong. The Adams. Yonder. Shark. What a bunch of great players. Where did they come from? I've met locusts with better personalities than Steve Stone. The words can't describe how disgusting this condescending crap is. Big changes should have been made 10 years ago. They weren't. That is why you're in this stupid rebuild. You had no plan and now you stink. Hey, Steve: You don't like the fans here? Get a gig in another major league city. I won't miss this crap. Did Reinsdorf tell him to do this? Sounds like it. It's a miracle anyone goes out to the ball park. I know I don't have plans of going there.

  12. Stopped reading after a house takes 5 years to build.

  13. So now they wheeled out Stone to make the excuses. Which rebuilder took 5 years, Stone? Certainly not Epstein, Luhnow, Beane, and the GMs of the Braves, Phillies, Brewers, Twins and Rays.

  14. Or...ya know, the Sox could just enjoy the 7 years of control they have of the kid. He's fairly injury prone. Do you really risk it and offer him something like 10/$150M? Not sure he'd take anything less, and even there you're only getting 3 extra seasons of control and you've taken on WAY more risk. I don't really think Robert is an extension candidate at all at this juncture.

  15. This is pretty lame. We all know Abreu is a leader in the clubhouse, nobody is gonna be like "dude your obp sucks this year you can't talk to me like that"

  20. Don't jump on Stoney. It's just twitter. No big deal. I'm not offended. I'm one of the rare fans totally against the rebuild and tanking. I feel tanking is un-American. In organized sports you try to win, always. This tank crap is another example of the bizarre world we have now. (I'd add my opinion of the political landscape here but that's a no no). But I'm not offended by Stoney and I'm anti-tank to begin with. I feel excited I get to see Eloy and Moncada and Robert play ball. WOW. However I must admit all the injuries have me wondering. Also I'm mad because (if Eloy was healthy) I think we have a core of 5 or so very good players who should be able to win this horsecrap division if our front office would make smart free agent acquisitions, not stiffs. At any rate, if Cease and Kopech are healthy, and the front office does its job, we should win next year. (Yes Robert and Madrigal should be withi the team and Burger if he's healthy). I don't really care what Stoney's take is. I love Stoney and that's that.

  21. Ha, 60/60 is nice but 110/60 is certainly more impressive.

  22. Gonna need zero from Reynaldo and the bullpen if the Sox are going to win with that lineup. There's 2 free outs in that lineup in Engel and Rondon. There's 2 nearly free outs from Sanchez and Castillo. Their lucky rabbit shoes are going to need to be in full swing for them to get hits. Jay can hit but even if he does he is surrounded by trash. Garcia hit, Moncada XBH, hoping Abreu doesn't have another suck game and McCann not in full regression mode yet is all we have. I could easily see the Sox maxing out at 1 run today.

  23. I have suggested that TA be named captain next year or maybe co-captain with Abreu. He is part of their new identity.

  24. A team that can threaten for the playoffs quite frequently consider they have the Astros in their division, the second-worst stadium in baseball and quite limited financial resources. As recently as 2014, one of the best teams in baseball...and then again last year, and competing in 2019. If we went by your “standard,” then the Friedman/Maddon Rays and this decade’s Indians are also not successes? Beane has had to completely rebuild that team like 3 or 4, maybe 5 times now... Lets just put it this way. If both of them were fired tomorrow, how many owners would choose Hahn over Beane?

  25. Because most people are not fair weather fans that can simply switch to cheering for which ever team is entertaining,

  26. Yeah, um, none of this is true by any stretch of the imagination.

  27. My only thing is why are people so irritated they didn't add guys that would make this like an 80 win team? The core isn't quite ready to produce but it will be soon, why does it matter who holds their place in the meantime. It's clear to me that they are looking to flip a switch as opposed to ramping up. Whether they can flip that switch or not remains to be seen. I'll start sweating this time next year.

  28. There is one positive the Sox should take out of this...at least there is still a segment of the fan base that still cares enough to reply to Stone. The absolute worst thing for a franchise is fan apathy.

  30. So I mentioned this earlier, but Robert may not be as disgruntled due to the Sox holding him in DSL for a year to increase his total take home pay.

  31. Just for one day next year, they could field a lineup with Robert, Anderson, Moncada, Madrigal, Tilson, and Engel. Other 3 guys don't even matter. Just to say it was the fastest single starting lineup an MLB team ever put out.

  33. Lol. Go look at your comments in the Machado thread. You wrote the definition on homerism in that one. Also, I love the Hawkeroo. I can see my Hawk Solo bobblehead on the shelf as I type this. Thanks for the comparison.

  34. man I keep thinking about how this will be the fastest Sox team in my lifetime when Robert joins them and eventually Madrigal.

  35. this is dumb. if you think he's the only player on the team with this opinion you're naive he's the team leader by all accounts, so he's the one who makes this kind of comment and you can be certain he's carrying the thoughts of his teammates with it just because Moncada has the best numbers on the team, doesn't mean he should be the arbiter of what the guys in the clubhouse are thinking and thus should speak freely to the media about it

  36. He might be. But if you went just by the comments on this board, it's much more likely he is the most under-valued player in recent history.

  37. Time for me to defend Abreu, AGAIN. First about the frequently stated idea that Abreu is in an obvious decline is just wrong. But it's been said on here so often that many people just accept it as fact, when there is no fact to it at all, none. The guy who brought up the batting averages is just using that stat because it fits this continued false narrative that Abreu is in decline. Steve Stone has said over and over during the telecasts that Abreu has made the conscious decision to sacrifice his batting average to drive in more runs. And you know what? It's working. The most RBIs he has ever had are 107 in a season, he has 68 already and 63 at the all-star break (If I remember correctly). He's basically on pace to get a 120 RBIs. Clearly his best RBI season in his career. Is that the evidence of a guy clearly in decline? No way. I wanted to throw in doubles as another example of his increased power, but too much math comparing the doubles year by year, so I'm gonna use total bases as another example of him having his best year EVER. Before this year, his best year ever for total bases was 343 in 2017. He already has 187 total bases. Let's be conservative and say he only gets 160 more bases the rest of the year, he will still break his all-time record. Does that sort of thing happen to guys in decline? Of course not. And you guys how talk about his lack of range on defense, such an abstract, unprovable thing. Let's talk about how he's scooping up bad throws better than he ever has and throws very well for a 1st baseman, again, Steve Stone mentions that all the time, how good he is throwing to 2nd and 3rd. So he's not declining defensively either. Also, I am so tired of this "He's an average 1st baseman" stuff. He's not. Do average players represent the AL at the All-star game? He was an all-star 1st baseman this year; he was one last year, and he'll be one next year as a White Sox. Another thing that somewhat cracks me up is the irony of people on here suggesting that Abreu should just shut up or play or implying that he has no right to his opinion because he's part of the problem. Jose is saying exactly the same thing that 95% of the people on this board are saying: he's upset with a whole lot of the wtf personal moves by management. Isn't that exactly what we all have been saying pretty much this entire year?

  40. You shouldn't insult posters by saying peanut brain, especially when I am like el rockin and never criticize posters intellect, etc. I guess you got me with those stats. Although .265 and .273 the last two years I'd argue is pretty close to the .293, .290. Just a handful of hits here and there. I happen to think he's a productive player especially considering the crap team he's on. Some of you don't think athletes have emotions. I'd think it'd be difficult to produce when you generally have no protection in the lineup (I love Eloy) and have such a losing mentality. I think he's productive no matter what, but especially for a team in its tank years. But at the risk of greg-haters saying I don't read posts I will acknowledge your point and say you have a point here as expressed by the traditional stats you listed.

  41. Hahn is a good diplomat. He'll find a way to say "tough shit, Jose".

  44. Great, you have made your statement and we all know where you stand. No need to repeat ad nauseam
    1 point
  45. I mean, all you keep repeating is pretty much everything will go wrong next year. It's tiring. they will be attempting to compete next season, not punting for a higher draft pick again. Whether they are successful will depend a large amount on their developed players like Anderson moncada Robert Kopech Cease Giolito etc. if their plan was to actually stretch this to 2023 like you keep saying, then the rebuild is a massive failure
    1 point
  46. I disagree. 2020 will be another tanking year. It's not possible to replace 13-14 spots on a roster in one offseason.

  47. Pitching has been an embarrassment-fire Cooper *** Hitting is pitiful - fire Steverson *** Outfielders running into each other - fire Boston *** All of this going on under Renteria so you obviously get rid of him. Maybe it's time for a hard ass guy like Joe Girardi. This mentoring nice guy stuff is not showing results on the field where it counts.

  48. you learn this crap in high school. The CF is the Captain out here...the QB...what he says goes and the corner guys need to understand that. It's unbelievable how fundamentally weak this team is. Ricky is a good guy and all...but he needs to be put into some Latin America position and out of the dugout. Team just needs a shakeup like the OP stated...

  49. He’d have a full offseason to attack whatever weaknesses get exposed instead of learning on the fly. Nothing’s guaranteed either way but that is where my head is at.
