  3. Can we discuss how bad moncada has been lately. I'm sorry but fuck some of these bullshit made up WAR numbers. My great 3rd baseman is batting. 267 8 home runs 44 rbi After 100 games. Fuck WAR

  10. The problem is if the Sox have to give up something significant for Story, then it still would have been better to get Escobar.

  11. "RH better be on the phone right now. that bottom 7-9 is gross." Just get the 2nd baseman. When Robert comes back, and when Yaz comes back, and we get a 2nd baseman: out-of-the line-up are Zavala, Mendick, and Garcia. Then the weakest spot is the Engel/Sheets in RF

  15. Disagree. An upgrade in the bullpen might be for 15 innings. Heuer or Ruiz could easily match or outpitch their replacement over that sample size. The chances of middle infield replacement outplaying Leury are seemingly much greater.

  21. He is and I’d take him for the right price, but I can’t see the Cubs trading a fan favorite to the Sox for anything short of a haul and he’s simply not worth a massive price.

  23. I know I shouldn't jinx it but it does appear that he found something in his last start in charlotte. Interesting thing I found out is Hendricks is shorter than lopez? amazing. Sox have a nice incremental height going in their bullpen Hendricks - 6'0 Lopez, Ruiz - 6'1 Evan Marshall - 6'2 Kopech, Bummer - 6'3 Ryan Burr - 6'4 Heuer - 6'5 Crochet - 6'6 Tepera is 6'1, and I think we have too many of those. Now, Bailey Ober is 6'9, a rare collectible. And Pineda is 6'7, which keeps the nice straight line going. Might be worth exploring.

  29. Seriously, are we consider trading 6 years of Jake Burger for 2 months of Trevor Story? That would be insane. I get the glut of rh hitters, but more talent is more better. Giving guys away is how you abbreviate your window. For me, Burger + Lambert > what Yankees gave up for Gallo.

  30. You're getting way too fixated on RBIs and home runs. There are other ways to contribute value to a baseball team. This isn't 1998. I'm not happy with how Yoan has played recently either. His strike out in the 10th was tough to watch, as he probably could have walked if he just went up there without a bat in his hand. If anything his approach recently has been more aggressive and it's actually not working well. He was more productive when he took his walks and didn't swing at balls out of the zone.

  31. LOL this is such a dumb post. Yoan Moncada is slashing 347/480/587 (1066 ops) with runners in scoring position. Somehow it is Yoan's fault that the Sox don't have guys in scoring position more often for his at bats. Yoan, why can't you DO BETTER than 1066 OPS with RISP you bum!?!?!?!

  32. You need to be able to hit the ball over the fence consistently. Just way too little power in the lineup currently.

  33. Sure, it’s just frustrating to watch all the contenders improve while we are simply betting on our injured players returning at 100%. Usually, teams with erratic bullpens and defense like this don’t last long in the post-season.

  34. We may still end up winning the division but I don’t think we’re going to last a series in the playoffs if we keep playing like this.

  35. I love the idea of trading for Story because you'd be trading with the Rockies and they haven't won a deal in the history of this regime.

  36. It's not that Cleveland is as good as the Sox, as it is the Sox are almost as bad as Cleveland. Never forget 2005. They had a 15 game lead on August 1 and it was shrunk to 0.5 by September 15th.

  37. Definitely not a coincidence as the FO knows for a fact what the fan reaction would be to this Escobar news. Turn to mouthpiece Bob to leak the possibility of Story within 5 minutes of the Escobar story coming out.

  43. I would disagree depending on the pitcher of course. If it is an impact reliever there will be more than 15 innings including the playoffs. Also those innings if there are in high leverage situation are much more important than many of the AB's from the 2B. It's not just the amount of time that stats like WAR count, it's also the importance of the situation that counts. An impact reliver will have a greater impact on this team's playoff success.

  44. The dilemma that the Sox face is not what is being focused upon by most fans, who continue to clamour for the Sox to trade for a second baseman. Fans aren't satisfied with the offensive production, from the keystone position. With Robert and Grandal soon to rejoin the club, and Eloy already back in the lineup, the Sox don't need more offense, in general. However, they would still benefit greatly, by having better lineup balance. The problem is that, aside from Grandal, the one left handed power bat, that is currently on this roster is Sheets and he will have no place to play, once everyone is back. Robert will be in center, Vaughn should be in left, which means that several guys will be vying for playing time between a corner OF, first base and DH. Abreu, Eloy and Grandal are the obvious guys to fill those 3 slots. Yasmani is not likely to be able to catch much, this soon after his injury. Therefore, first base and DH are really the only 2 spots for Abreu and Grandal. That leaves Eloy and Sheets for one outfield spot. Last night, Eloy was in LF and Vaughn was moved to RF. Even with Robert's range in CF, having both Vaughn and Eloy in the corners will present a real challenge, defensively. Nevertheless, that may be the way to go, for the rest of this season. In any case, Sheets has no place to play. The rationale behind the need to acquire someone to play second is not that the team needs an adequate second baseman. Leury is fine, defensively at that position and is adequate offensively, at the bottom of the order. Bringing in Escobar is not intended to fill a void at the position, but is rather intended to provide a LH power bat. It just so happens that second base is the only spot available for that bat. I still believe that Escobar is the best fit and will ultimately be acquired before the Friday trade deadline. Moreover, I don't think that the cost will be very high. As for Sheets, I don't expect him to be traded. He is the best hope, for a middle of the order LH bat, in the organization. If Grandal can resume a normal catching load, next year, I could see Abreu and Sheets sharing the first base/DH roles, in 2022.
