0 era in 12 innings in AA with 11.7 so/9. Sure he's nobody but how did we get literally anyone for Grossman13 points
-
Not really. It means they sold at peak value. The return is a different story. They bought low on Eder. And if you look around Eders trend line as he gets innings back on his arm, he's trending forward. Last 3 starts are a 4.02 era, 23 Ks in 16 innings including a .421 BABiP8 points

What’s he supposed to say? “The wheels were falling off around me, but I had a fucking blast!”8 points

I'm 100% here for him continuing to succeed. But the Getz stans making this face with Ramos succeeding as Soroka gets lit up, Lopez grounds out, Maldonado struggles to hit .100, Brad Keller exists, and the team fails to reach .300 feels incredibly thin.7 points

Trading him this early opens up the possibility that he sucks at Texas, gets DFA'd, picked up by the Sox, gets on another hot streak, and gets traded AGAIN before the deadline.7 points

Still chuckling about the victory lap his biggest fan took here after a 2 hit game. He's been awful offensively, awful defensively, and the Sox pitching is bottom 5 in the league in pretty much every category. Tough to discern what exactly he is accomplishing. If he's such a great guy to have around, make him a coach. That said, Sox don't really have anyone else to plug in until Stassi returns from injury (and his 60 days are up end of month), so best case scenario we still have a few weeks of watching him look helpless.6 points

It could still work out great. And I’m not ready to write off DeLoach either. Just super frustrating that we acquired a pair of 25+ year old OFs and neither can help us right now despite two massive openings on the major league roster.6 points

Guy sounds like he should be a defensive back at Southern Cal. 80-grade name.6 points

This guy might not work out, but signing Grossman accomplished something.6 points

To me it was worth the gamble on Soroka snapping back to being pretty good. It's Aaron Bummer who is owed some decent money. It didn't work out, but it made some sense. I would rather have Shuster than Bummer on the 2024 and 2025 White Sox.6 points

He needs to look in the mirror, he was part of the problem last year. He’s being nice if he thinks the 2024 White Sox are going to go on a nice winning streak, the 3 they won in a row from the Rays was a miracle. As this abomination of a season continues the more I hate Reinsdork and what he has done to our franchise.6 points

Uh, Boston was literally on the team for a decade. We've had plenty of scum bags come and go.6 points

The hater is an abstract construct that exists in all of our minds, especially in the minds of professional athletes and evidently commentators. Renowned poet Soulja Boy once rhetorically asked us (thinking men), "got a question: why they hatin' on me?" He famously followed up with, "if haters want to hate, they'll get shot like a free throw (swoosh)". Who is "they"? Who is the "hater"? He isn't a real person. He's an idea. A motivational tool. An imagined enemy. The hater is whoever you want him to be.6 points

Emblematic of the whole discourse that the column misquotes Schriffen at the key moment. Scoop Jackson quotes him as saying "for all you haters" Didn't sound right to me so I played it back and indeed he said, "for all the haters" — you know, language that implies the haters are not part of the people watching NBC Sports Chicago But I guess people hear whatever they want to hear6 points

To me the biggest issue I have (and I've been broadcasting for 40+ years) is the apparent lack of preparation. I get it, it's not easy especially for a guy who is known more for football and basketball. BUT... He's had a few months now to bone up, he's spent a lot of time with Steve Stone. Jeff Szynal is the Sox scoreboard director and historian, he's an outstanding resource and frankly he is supposed to be a professional Major League broadcaster. I just don't get the fundamental mistakes. That is 100% on him and it doesn't matter where he's from, what his ethnic background is, what sport he grew up playing... these things are basic. You've got to do your homework. The appearance for right or wrong seems to be he isn't doing it at all or isn't doing enough of it or he needs some help with it from others. He is off to a shaky start at best right now.6 points

This is now officially the longest amount of time the White Sox have held a lead this season.6 points

When Schiffrin decided he was going to represent the “South Side” with his calls, and put all the “haters” on blast, that’s fine, but now that’s your brand and who he is. Two days later, he badly mis-pronounced the name of Bill Veeck on the broadcast. It wasn’t a flub, he read the name on the paper and thought it pronounced “Veek” If he didn’t make the haters comment, the Veeck mistake isn’t even mentioned. But when you want to puff out your chest and speak for the “South Side” then you better be genuine. Maybe brushing up on Sox history would be a good start.6 points

Maldonado 9 for 91, unveiling the new Maldonado line of .100, to go along with the better Mendoza line of .200. Hard to explain why Getz expected a better batting average from Maldonado , and on a team that needs more offense. Fortunately, some of our hitters have been improving and the pitching has been good lately. We may not lose 120 games anymore.5 points

What a pleasure to see a Sox minor leaguer come up and have some success and the team puts some wins together. All I can say is, MORE please5 points

I’m not saying the offense is good but it at least looks semi competent with the recent additions. With Crochet, Fedde, and Flexen settling in at the top of the rotation, this team might actually win some games this month and next.5 points

A while ago I remember Hawk having a conversation in the booth. It basically went something like this: "You know what Stone Pony, if your last name is too long, you have two options. Get a different name or get a bigger back." No bullshit, that's pretty much the context of what he said. I have no idea why it stuck in my head, but I'll be damned, when they made the letters smaller, I can only imagine Hawk being mad that wasn't one of the two options he laid out years ago.5 points

This. Soroka was a worthwhile gamble on for a bad team that needed MLB pitching. He's been terrible, but it was good process. Had he shown glimpes of his early-career self, that is a very nice trade chip. Just didn't work out that way. Shuster and Shewmake were perfectly reasonable secondary pieces to take back, and Gowens was a fine longer term tertiary piece. Lopez was questionable, but obviously we all know the Sox 2B history, and even though his arb figure is about $2M too much, he was also a fine enough bounceback candidate and he can play some D. He can't hit a lick, but his defense does make him a major league. But he'll be a no brainer non-contender for 2025 at the current arb price.5 points

I wouldn’t say the season was bad largely in part because of him. He was disappointing for sure but once the wheels fell off in April the entire team was going through the motions and our fearless leader couldn’t come up with the right media quote to make it better5 points

That trade is just horrific when you look at who the Sox received. Rather just have the 40 man spots than the group of mediocrity they received.5 points

It's a very good question. I remember him saying something like "we could tell in the dugout when the Sox were going to show up or not" and I'm going to guess on he sold them on "this team is talented but not preparing correctly" and then has proceeded to prepare them even less than they were.5 points
