  1. We are 3-0 since my son was born. I will start taking donations for any expenses to make sure it keeps going.

  2. Thru his first 40 major league at bats he’s hitting .400 and is .500 over his last 7 games... after being out of action for a month with an injured shoulder. However, according to some... he sucks and was a wasted 4th pick because his BABIP is high, slugging is low, his arm is weak, and his speed is overrated. I love this kid.

  3. I think you're overstating the words of many, to say the least. I do not think there was a widespread SoxTalk consensus that Madrigal "sucks". That's just massive hyperbole. I like Madrigal and liked the pick. I think he can be a rock solid 2B for years to come. That being said, he's played 11 games and has 41 PA's. I don't think I have to point out that hitting .400 isn't sustainable. The fascination that so many seem to have with small sample sizes when it suits their viewpoint never ceases to amaze me. For instance, if he was hitting .200 through 41 PA's. I'm sure you wouldn't accept the notion that those who feel contrary to you were correct in their assertion. The list of bad players to hit .400 for 11 games is endless. Let's see what happens when he goes through an inevitable struggle. Let's see his first 500-600 PA's, yeah? I mean, he hasn't done much to prove his critics wrong when it comes to what he "can't do". He has yet to notch an XBH and never walks. Maybe he can literally hit at a Tony Gwynn like clip, who knows? However, if he cannot (most likely outcome), he's going to have to develop some gap-to-gap power and walk some. If your response to this is "Jeez! He's only played 11 games and he's hitting .400! What more do you want?". Then, I appreciate you understanding the point I made above about small sample sizes and it being too early. The success or failure of positional player draft pick, trade, or free agent acquisitions are decide over hundreds upon hundreds of PA's (often over a thousand). At least, when it comes to those you've invested into long-term. Which, clearly, we have with Madrigal.

  4. One of the better lineups of the year imo.

  5. Huh? Everyone knows that. It's the rule for this year. You gotta be up by September 15th. That's not Vaughn, that's everyone. This is not insider knowledge. It's like tweeting "I have been informed that if kids want to dress up and get free candy, they must go around their neighborhood on October 31st."

  6. With a depleted bullpen I actually think that was a good managers job by Renteria. First time I think he actually got it right. Like ever. I have to give him credit because most of the time I think he is not very good. Keep it going boys.

  10. Remember when everyone was worried that RR would continue batting Abreu third in the order this year?

  11. The guy is on a roll. Why take him out? The Sox have 2 off days this week. I am sure he will be fine.

  12. Man I’m loving focusing on Major League Baseball but getting a prospect list* like this makes me miss getting 6 box scores a day and following these guys. *albeit one filled with guys I’m already able to watch up here

  13. Jesus people. He's had a few bad weeks. Relax. lol. Did he not have Post COVID Fatigue when he slashed .302/.371/.508 over the first 2.5 weeks of the season? The team has also publicly spoken about his leg injury and he's pulled up gimpy, gingerly, or favoring one leg while running a multitude of times. I'm going to go out on a MASSIVE limb here and say that is hard to play with. Moncada himself said that with returning from COVID - the problem was more so the prolonged inactivity and not having a chance to rev up for the season. Legs aren't in shape, etc. He looked pretty good earlier tonight. Had some good AB's and absolutely hammered a couple balls a little wide of the foul pole in right. It wouldn't shock me if starting tomorrow - it was his turn out of the guys to get extremely hot.

  14. Was torn between Tim and Jose, but the fact that Ron included Jose was the tiebreaker.

  15. Robert is so good I bet the Sox only need two outfielders out there at one time: Robert and Engel could cover the whole OF by themselves probably. Abreu is so good the guy on here that rips him can't possibly rip him again (I won't see if he does as I ignored him). Tim Anderson wracks up so many multi-hit games it's inconceivable. And Grandal is much better than some critics give him credit for. Also good pitching tonight. If Sox make the playoffs they should try and win it, outscore people. Just as the Twins make it every year and get beat by the Yankees, there's no law that says the Sox can't make it once in a blue moon and win it all as in '05. Don't rip me. I realize the Sox have major flaws and mainly have beaten up on horrific teams and could fall flat on their faces, but they also could stay hot and win it.

  16. The Cubs are in First Place but it seems like there is more buzz around the Chicago area about Robert, Eloy and the White Sox. Reinsdorf should be given great credit for signing Abreu to an extension when some people questioned that move. Abreu has not only played like an MVP, but he helped to recruit Robert and showed Moncada, Eloy and Robert how to conduct themselves on and off the field. The guy is a leader and so is TA. This team doesn't have selfish players, nut jobs, showboats and @holes on it. On the contrary the White Sox are one of the more likeable teams we have had on the South side since our 2005 WS team. Like the advertisement states - Good guys wear black.

  17. Timmy is the heart and soul of this team. Hopefully he’ll stop being so criminally underrated after this season

  18. I have no idea how this is going to end but damn this has been a fun season since Timmy came back to the lineup.

  19. How in the hell was he only a grade of 55 for defense? That was a "there's no way he can catch that ball...he did!!" moment. I love watching Robert play.

  21. I know RR won't do it and I know this is the 76th time I've said it, but McCann needs to play every day, whether it's C or DH. He is hitting the ball way too hard so consistently, especially vs LHP's, that it's asinine to not get him in there daily

  26. FWIW: Alex Mcrae is with the team on the traveling taxi squad. That's why he's the addition. They weren't going to fly a different guy to KC for 2 games when MCrae was already there.

  27. Stiever is fine. Putting him on the 40-man and burning an option is an issue though. He's not Rule 5 eligible until December of 2021 and he'll be starting in the minors next year. If they brought up Stiever to pitch out of the bullpen, he'd be in AA next year but on the 40-man prematurely. This stuff matters. Mcrae was with the team on the taxi squad which is why he is the choice.

  29. He’s had a couple bad errors that I’m sure he will clean up but I’m really impressed with how quickly he gets rid of the ball. It stands out especially when he turns double plays. His quick release makes up for his lack of arm strength.

  32. I don’t think Reinsdorf will spend money this off season. The only money he may spend will be on a closer. And that’s a maybe.

  33. It's been lasting for years. He's gotten the job done since he put on a Sox uniform. His whip was around 0.85 a couple nights ago. Hard to blow games when you give up one run in 13.2 innings. He has given up 2 homeruns in more than 75 innings with the Sox. Claiming the Sox are winning in spite of him is LUDICROUS. Sox infield had to put up a clown show for him to blow a game. Maybe we can clone Mariano Rivera and make you happy.

  34. Cool article on TA7 at fangrapghs, a follow-up to their August 2019 article on his breakout last year. https://blogs.fangraphs.com/tim-andersons-second-quieter-breakout/ Some highlights: For the first time ever, TA7's average exit velocity is above the MLB average. His chase rate is down 6.5 points. He has the 10th highest hard-hit% in baseball His GB rate this year is up to 59%, but historically his rolling GB% has fluctuated a ton, so it would not be surprising to see him go on a streak of elevating the baseball soon.

  35. Voted Tim Anderson, but strongly considered Luis Robert for his efforts covering the entire outfield this season, in addition to his bat. Tim Anderson is the leader of the team, the team wouldn't be performing collectively without his leadership. I can see arguments for Abreu as well. Dallas Keuchel has been the most valuable pitcher, Matt Foster and Danny Mendick are the two best pleasant surprises.

  39. I wouldnt. Especially not with bauer available. Bauer is a perfect signing for this team, especially if hes serious about not wanting a long term deal. Sox then dont need to compete with the mega $250mil+ deals and can pay him $30 mil next year (if they can get him on a 1 yr+option deal even better). He eats up payroll before our younger guys get onto the backends of their extensions when their salary goes up. He holds down the rotation for a year or two when we have payroll flexibility and gives the next crop of arms (crochet, kelley, thompson, and dalquist) time to develop.

  40. I dont think we need a left handed right fielder just for balance. A lot of our guys hit righties just fine. Robert, eloy, yasmani, and moncada all have better splits against righties than lefties. Abreu hits righties to the tune of an .850 ops. Mazara (who is a left handed right fielded) hits lefties much better than righties. Thats 6 guys who hit righties to the tune of an .800 ops or better throughout their careers. Historically edwin has hit righties well, but this year he has been awful against them. Anderson and mcann both struggle a bit against righties also. Engel also cant hit righties to save his life. Springer on the other hand, even though hes a righty, hits righties at an .825 ops. We dont need a left handed bat just for the sake of having a left handed right fielder. We already have that (mazara). We just need a good right fielder period. Our struggles this year against righties (if you can call it that, were still above league average ops against righties) has more to do with lineup construction than they players we have on the roster.

  42. Very tough decision. I hope a depressed FA market allows the White Sox to resign Colome. I would have have guessed pre Rona plans were to promote Bummer and use the $ elsewhere on the roster after another solid Bummer season. The nerve injury is an additional factor in Colome's retention. The candidates you mention may be possibilities, though the truncated schedule really hurt in terms of providing significant audition time in late inning situations. Foster has succeeded in multiple roles this year. Heuer has looked very good as well, wish he was used more. Wouldn't hold Burdi's bad outing against him, but would like a full year under his belt before considering late inning roles. Liam Hendricks is the best 2021 FA closer beyond Colome, likely beyond the Sox' budget. I don't know whether other minor league candidates are in the mix with the lack of minor league games or news, but hopefully the minors will continue to provide the White Sox with additional candidates. The White Sox won it all, though with a more experienced veteran SP staff, with rotating Closers throughout 2005, and push comes to shove this would not be my number one priority this off-season. Right Field would be my top priority as it impacts offense and defense, followed by making a decision as to whether Grandal is a good fit to catch 120 games, or whether a three position rotation between Abreu, Grandal, McCann and Vaughn is best. In a perfect world, the Sox would have signed two OFers instead of Parrot and Grandal, and Jiminez would serve significant time as DH. Would upgrade the defense and keep Eloy's bat in the lineup without continued lost time due to injuries in the outfield. I do like Grandal's pitch framing, and unfortunately the truncated season limits the time he gets to work with the staff this season (hopefully the postseason adds a few dozen more opportunities ). I think the writing is on the wall and McCann will leave, Collins gets promoted and the money, if used, is for RF and Pitching. And thanks @Chicago White Sox for pointing out the two RP omissions, Heuer and Burdi. Both will return, eliminating the need for the FA RP.

  44. So a few weeks ago, the family and I flew from Chicago to South Carolina on United. 9:15AM departure. No pilots arrive, at all. They eventually have to call the "on-call" pilots who take over 2 hours to get to the airport. We then board around noon, taxi and then get notified of a maintenance issue, so back to the gate. Sit at the gate for another 1-2 hours and finally take off at 2:00pm. Basically 5 hours late. I reach out to United's Customer Care Department, asking for a partial flight credit and they basically tell me to "pound sand" as they dont give credits any longer unless their delays exceed 8 hours!!! Has anyone had recent experience with United in getting refunds for situations like this? In years past, I had no problems getting small token credits ($100-200/ticket) for maintenance or de-boarding delays of 2-3 hours or so. This is much worse!!!

  45. Sounds dumb, but write a letter on real paper and mail it to whoever is their president/CEO now. I did that once and got credit. they can do whatever they want in these instances and are going to give a "sorry, but ..." to your email and a "sorry, but ..." to your phone call. What happened to you is so infuriating. it's the worst part of travel. To catch a 9:15 am flight nowadays u get about 4 hours sleep the night before and there is a hurried atmosphere in getting to the gate 50 minutes early, etc. Then you get delayed soooooo long you will be so tired when u finally get to south carolina. Sucks.
