Use your brain sir. It was 2010. The Hangover came out then and "Paging Dr. Fa**ot" was a huge joke from it. 40 year old virgin had a scene where they constantly call each other gay. It was a different time then, it was also in a locker room. You would get offended at literally every locker room at the time lmao. I know you love finding reasons to get outraged and you love being the moral authority, but drop the holier than thou bullshit.3 points

That's OK. If we're going to break the record for most pages about a free agent we didn't get, we probably need to start now.3 points

There is no evidence Rocky knew, other than @South Side Hit Men wishing it was true. People can believe what they want. I believe based on what has been presented that Rocky didn't know, and as you said, McDonough kept it off his desk. It doesn't make me feel any better about the situation at all, I'm still done with the Hawks.....but I'm also not going to say Rocky knew when all the evidence we have to go off of says he didn't know.2 points

Come on man, @ron883 is a legit good dude. He may troll from time to time and his hatred for Jose Abreu borderlines on personal, but you can tell he has a great moral compass. Saying you want people like him to die out is pretty extreme and would be like saying you want 90% of the world wiped out.2 points

This was my overall point to what you QTed above, and no I don't get mad at people for saying it 10 years ago. But What we are now seeing out of the blackhawks is a lot of warning signs back then that we all pushed aside as simple locker room antics. Writing "gay" on the marker board is stupid, nobody should lose their job or be erased from the cup for that. But when you look at it in context that they all knew what had happened, were bullying Beach at that time, and wrote that on the marker board, it becomes pretty gross. and I obviously wish I didn't say shit like that and one of my close friends called me out for it around that time2 points

As much as I like Semien, I wouldn't sign him to a gigantic contract coming off a career year. I don't ever see him repeating this year, he's 31, his obp has never been great and he's a mediocre defender.2 points

All the guys were basically kids. If we cancel everyone who has used gay as a derogatory thing at any point in their life, we would probably not interact with anyone. I think they probably had a hard time wrapping their heads around a big guy like Beach being sexually assaulted by Aldrich, who seems like a really little guy. Players are macho and naïve. If it happened at this stage of their lives, there is reason to criticize. But the adults in the room are the ones to blame IMO. I think there are things we all have done or have acted at age 20 or 21 where if it happened again, we wouldn't act the same..' One thing I would criticize a guy like Toews for is if he is lying now about what he knew and when he knew it. The great Coach Q got caught in a lie, and will never live it down.2 points

Lol yea. I always love the trade proposals that equal: ”Let’s dick the guy that just said he wants to be here and signed a friendly extension”. Players probably just love that. It’s only their lives, who cares? ?1 point

Well yeah, Lynn is a risk, but no guarantee Gonsolin is more than a fifth starter/swing guy. For all we know, Lopez could fulfill the same role again...along with Cordero.1 point

Didn't Beach essentially say that the Hawks are legally still trying to say he's full of shit? IIRC he said something like "they can apologize all they want but in the court room they tell me I'm a liar."1 point

It was rumored that the White Sox wanted to extend Madrigals contract and he refused. When he wouldn't go for an extended contract, Hahn traded him.1 point

I like that, although I'd like them to sign another RP, and send Crochet down to get stretched out/develop a 3rd pitch. I think that a decent RP signing could net 1 WAR, but I'd like to have more SP "inventory," in case of future injury/ineffectiveness that can pop up.1 point

Nah, he called me scum for calling out Bruce Levine's tweet, claimed Bruce is too old to tweet or use his phone properly. Haven't read a post of his that indicates a "great moral compass', just posts trolling actual White Sox fans, throwing hissy fits about "cancel culture", hatred of any black sports media person, and love of all the drunken idiots who have been rightfully shitcanned over time. Of course you did, your "great moral compass" compelled you. The world continues toward progress. Those OK with racism, rape, sexual harassment, misogyny and other inhumane conduct are going the way of the Klan. KKK leader David Duke lost 90% of his voter support from his 1990s election results to his latest run a few years ago, but it took three long decades to get there. My alderman in the 1980s openly declared he will not allow any N (plural word) to move into our ward, he is dead, and his son who led the state senate had to quit in disgrace last year. Offensive people will lose their "math teacher" jobs, people will continue to shun "entertainment" promoting trash, one by one, team by team, city by city. It has taken decades to get to where we are now, and will still sadly take many more years to eradicate these viewpoints. Some people become aware through education or personal reflection that things once shamefully accepted / tolerated / profited from are no longer acceptable. Others will cling to their ignorant views until their last breath. There is still time for those reading this post to do the right thing.1 point

That makes sense. From my perspective, you already got Lopez in the major league plus Stiever, Lambert, & perhaps McClure in AAA. I’d try for someone like Terehan or Folty on a minor league deal and maybe another arm who could be stretched in the bullpen. Just seems like it’s hard / unrealistic to have three veteran #4 / #5 types in a bullpen unless you’re a team like the Dodgers. That’s why having consistent waves of pitching prospects, even B & C tier ones, is so important because you need roster a lot of these guys in AAA.1 point

I was at the Bears Packers game a couple of weeks ago and the guy sitting behind us kept saying "If you a Packer fan then your gay!". He said it a least a dozen times and he got louder as he drank more. Nobody laughed but there was a lot of cringing. Finally a guy in a Packer jersey stood up and said "Is this gay?" and then made out with his girlfriend. The whole section applauded and the guy finally shut up.1 point

Semien would be a great addition but two things here that really make this tough to swallow. 1. Second base is a hole we opened up that wasn't there a few months ago. I loved the Kimbrel trade at the time but it just sucks it went so poorly. 2. Semien was also given away in a trade that worked out poorly for the Sox. I'd like to solve RF before 2B but obviously would be happy to land Semien. I do not think we'll be the highest bidder for him though.1 point

To me this whole thing is very upsetting and casts a very dark cloud on probably my 2nd favorite team behind the White Sox. The utter lack of compassion and common sense makes me want to throw up. This crap makes the whole LaRussa debacle look like nothing by comparison. I agree with the statement that unfortunately this happens everywhere and has probably happened in most locker rooms in most sports....but that needs to change. The more this kind of stuff gets this much airplay and the more teams will do the right things just out of sheer fear of shame. (I don't believe teams/organizations would do the right thing altruistically unfortunately) I will never look at the Blackhawks in the same light. Between this and what happened to Aliu is just extremely disheartening and disgusting really.1 point

You don't have to explain this. Everyone knows that a locker is a toxic masculine place where many lines are crossed. But much like hanging out with your buddies at their place, if a rape happens there and every person knows, every single person will be viewed as someone who did nothing to stop it and as a coward.1 point

When you put it that way, yeah........whoever did that was shitty. I didn't even grasp this part until just now. EDIT: wait a sec....wasn't that said to Black Ace 1 in 2014 in the AHL and not Beach himself?1 point

Maybe not let one of their teammates call Beach a slur and mock his sexual assault? This happened on the ice and I find it hard to believe your beloved Captain wasn’t present.1 point

My dad had season tickets for 23 years, gave them up when I was born. I've probably been to 200 Hawks games in my life. I was at the WCF in Anaheim for the Shaw header goal and the longest playoff game in franchise history. I've got pictures of me wearing Hawks gear when I was 3 years old. I used to sit in class and come up with line combos (that included the likes of Igor Korolev, Pavel Vorobiev, Travis Moen and others). I have other connections to the franchise as well that I won't share here. It's really hard to "quit cold turkey" on a franchise that has been a big part of my life....but as I look at the franchise as it currently stands, there is nothing for me to root for. Fuck the players, fuck the coaching staff, fuck the ownership. It's rotten to the core.1 point

The Chop is so powerful, it has singlehandedly destroyed interest in baseball. I learn a lot on this board.1 point

Disagree. Franchise players hold an outsized amount of influence. If Toews took the claims seriously, you had better believe more action would have been taken. Look, blame him or don't, but the illusion that Toews is a "good leader" is dead. His Captaincy is forever tainted.1 point

Nah, the joke is your faux outrage in this thread and claiming this trashy chant entering it's 4th decade is "awesome". It's an embarrassment to the sport, and just another example of why baseball, a great game, continues to lose interest and audience year after year. Young and diverse people MLB gives lip service to trying to attract to stave off dying interest in this sport cringe when they witness this shit. There are no positive connotations continuing with this garbage, same as waving a confederate flag at an auto race.1 point

Want: Sign Conforto (4 years; $70M), trade Keuchel + Burger for Tommy La Stella (stealing this one from @Chicago White Sox), re-sign Leury (2 years; $8M), trade Kade McClure, Micker Adolfo and Blake Rutherford (perhaps Collins could factor into this deal as well instead of McClure) to PIT for Jacob Stallings, trade Kimbrel to Phillies for Seranthony Dominguez and Mickey Moniak (Phils take whole bill), sign Chris Archer (1 year; $7.5M full of incentives), sign Jose Quintana to minor league deal. Re-sign Tepera (2 years: $15M). QO to Rodon; he rejects. Payroll in this scenario is in the low-$180M, which frankly is about as low as it can realistically be if Sox are serious. What they'll do: I am too scared to guess. Hopefully nothing too shortsighted.1 point
