  1. Matt Spiegel is reporting that Joe McEwing and Darryl Boston are both gone. Sounds like Katz and Hasler are the only coaches returning.

  3. Don't know much about him. Maybe he will be a great manager. I just find it ironic that Hahn said he wants to hire someone with recent experience from a winning organization, then they hire someone from a losing organization that just passed him over for their own managerial opening. You just have to laugh at this organization.

  4. Since 2016, the Royals haven't had one winning season. Sounds perfect.

  5. Are people really disliking this guy already, or are they just serial complainers? He’s a qualified manager who has been on a winning staff. I’m sold he’s going to be better than what we’ve had since “Good Ozzie”.

  6. What were Hahn's requirements for the new manager again?

  7. At the very least, I don't want him fired yet. This represents a substantial upgrade over the last one of these.

  8. I hate to defend Hahn here, but this continues to be overblown. He listed characteristics of what he's looking for in a manager. He then conducted an extensive interview process and hired who he thinks is best for the job. Yes, it's possible the best guy for the job doesn't have those characteristics. I mean, how likely is somebody sitting around that checks all those boxes? I have absolutely no problem with Hahn saying those things and then hiring Grifol.

  9. The same thing is happening in this country regarding things that are much more important.

  10. this is an outside the box pick. He obviously did well in his interview. Not the typical right hand man for a contender. We don't know most of these guys anyway. He isn't Tony, and not part of the family, and there were several who would probably work as cheaply. Ill give him the benefit of the doubt.

  11. im reading this as nobody else wanted to be the manager of the White Sox

  12. He was probably the guy that accepted what the Sox were willing to pay. They probably told all the candidates what the pay would be and they all said NO.

  13. I don't know how anyone can be upset. I want to hate the hire, but every little nugget on this guy is excellent. Plus doing some clean up with the coaching staff? What's not to like? Who out there is clearly better?

  14. Recent World Series experience ✅ Ties to winning organization ✅ Not a first time manager ✅ Anymore Hahn lies?

  15. Interview from last year. At 5:40, he's asked about the Royals' identity and success with bunting. His reply - "at the end of the day, your team has to hit homers. You have to put the ball in the seats to win games. You need that timely 3-run HR." https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/episode-7-pedro-grifol-kansas-city-royals-bench-coach/id1561838258?i=1000522536832

  16. That's calling for firings, I want to perform them. Some sort of driving them to the stadium and having them sit on home plate and watching all their mistakes on the big screen. But I'm not a monster, we'd send them out with a firework show.

  17. It's not TLR, it's not Ozzie, it's not a former player who is not actively coaching (AJ, Thome, Getz, Paulie, etc). Solid.

  19. Cons: Royals org Pro: His analytics stance, his non-Menechinan home run stance, Spanish-speaking, bringing an experienced manager as a bench coach, canning the non-Katz staff. I'm cool with it for now. Feeling a lot better than I was before, even if it is just snippets people are dumping in here to hype him up.

  20. I think the sadder thing about the foodies is how many people on Twitter ask them real questions and then defend them and/or get defensive when others point out they're frauds. The internet is a sad place

  21. Katz is the only guy who deserves to keep his job. McEwing sucks. Menechino sucks even more.

  23. Seems like the consensus is everyone thought Grifol Shoulda been the guy in 2019 for the Royals, but the royals did their very best White Sox impression and anointed Matheny God Emperor

  24. They maybe win 3 or 4 more games. Wish Tony was THE Problem, but he was only A Problem

  25. Why is it the Sox only poach non-player personnel from the Royals? Buddy Bell and Chris Getz on the player development side and now Grifol on the coaching side of things. I get it, we don’t sit in on these interviews, but I’d feel much better hiring from a best in class organization and not the Kansas City Royals. That being said, at least Jerry didn’t circumvent the process and Hahn can finally be held accountable without the TLR crutch to fall on.

  28. Very odd hire. Managers really don't mean much unless it's tlr, and it wasn't a retread which I like, but know nothing about the guy so really hard to like a move. Also, if it was Rick's hire, rick sucks so not a glowing endorsement

  29. I wish him the best. Was a firm believer that a good manager could come from anywhere, as evidenced by a whole lot. Really wanted Kevin Long but it was pretty much just for Eloy. Would pay upwards of Leury Garcia's salary to poach kevin long. However: - If he cannot sack joe mcewing and dbo then I already hate him, sorry pedro.

  30. I first heard of Joe Espada in October 2019 after listening to an interview of Theo Epstein on the Score. David Ross was hired, but Theo said Espada impressed him and Jed so much, they had a really difficult decision. Said they really learned a lot during their two interviews with him, both about the approach of top organizations like the Astros, and they were also very impressed with him as a person / candidate. Liked what I saw and read about Espada since then, which is why he was my top option pre and post Tony. Regardless of who is hired, I’m glad the Sox have finally taken the time to conduct their first external interview process for a top position since Ozzie vs. Cito nearly two decades ago. Hopefully Hahn and Jerry have been exposed to the way successful people and organizations operate and perhaps begin to make some long overdue changes internally.
