I’m all for adding a quality 2B or a LH bench piece who can split time, but I do think some people are underestimating Lenyn Sosa because a bad initial stint with the Sox. Time & time again he’s proven that he needs an adjustment period before being productive at a given level. Stint | PA | BB % | K % | ISO | BABIP | OPS | wRC+ A+ (1/2): 101 | 2.0% | 33.7% | .112 | .306 | .557 | 47 A+ (2/2): 236 | 4.8% | 17.1% | .169 | .364 | .849 | 126 AA (1/2): 121 | 1.7% | 23.1% | .068 | .273 | .522 | 44 AA (2/2): 289 | 7.3% | 13.8% | .218 | .340 | .933 | 141 AAA (1/2): 86 | 3.5% | 23.3% | .074 | .323 | .600 | 58 AAA (2/2): 161 | 9.3% | 14.3% | .228 | .336 | .943 | 149 Majors: 36 | 2.8% | 33.3% | .114 | .136 | .367 | -4 As you can see above, it’s taken 80 to 120 plate appearances on average for Sosa to adjust to a level and when he does he sees massive improvement in his BB, K, & ISO rates. Yes, Sosa sucked horribly in his 36 PA’s with the Sox last year, but that should not have been overly surprising to any of us based on his track record. And I get it, he wasn’t just bad, he was god awful, but we’re talking about an incredibly SSS in which he pounded the ball into the ground 14 to 15 points above his recent minor league rate (~40%) and was super unlucky in terms of batted ball luck (.161 wOBA vs. .243 xwOBA). Steamer projects him to be a league average hitter next year who also provides solid defense at 2B. And honestly, I think that’s a fairly reasonable outcome if we can give him a month or so to make adjustments without expecting him to be all that productive. Obviously there’s no guarantee with young players, but it’s very possible he can be a 1.5 to 2.0 win player as soon as next year. Again, that doesn’t mean you don’t look at upgrades or complementary pieces, but I would hate to sign a low ceiling, RH hitting veteran like Big Energy and make it harder to get the PA’s he needs. With a very interesting but higher variance prospect in Romy Gonzalez also in the mix, either go big (Brandon Lowe?), go with a LH role player (Leury for Brad Miller?), or stick with what you got.6 points

Moving out of the Chicago area is the only thing that would make me stop being a Sox fan. And if they did move, it would only be a matter of time until a different team relocated to be Chicago's 2nd team. Just because Jerry has failed to capitalize on the pot of gold that is Chicago's sports market, doesn't mean other owners or potential owners wont see the opportunity clear as day.4 points

It's not that I don't believe in Sosa or Romy. I actually believe in them fine and don't particularly think 2B is a very important position. That said, when a 2 year, 17mm for a very serviceable veteran 2B who can also play SS and 3B is available during "championship window" if you're a competent franchise you take that flier. Worst case is you have a 5X better Leury who can be your utility IF for a reasonable price on a 2 year deal. End of the day our GM (with TLR pressure and love) has Leury on 2/11mm deal. These are the type of mistakes that are just gut wrenching. They're not huge, but they're impactful4 points

He hits the ball very hard. If other orgs have a player that hits the ball very hard and plays 6 positions they should see what they have as well.3 points
-
We shouldn't be surprised by this at all, that been the rumors for months and with the Sox up against the self-imposed payroll restrictions I would have been shocked if things turned out differently.3 points
-
If the Sox we’re trying to acquire him, it’d require Montgomery++. But since it’s the Sox, best we can do is a blocked guy outside the top 100 headlining the deal.3 points
-
When he was making contact, he was in fact hitting the ball hard. Your first sentence is stupid, we aren’t comparing 4A players to the general population. Compared to other ball players in the big leagues, Romy hit the ball hard. If he truly can’t stop swinging at everything and has a 2% walk rate that he had for 100 at bats, then nothing matters. But I guess we’ll just have to add him to the list of Sox players who need an improved approach at the plate, which is a list that includes every player in the team. Or we could sign Josh Harrison, that’ll put us over the top.2 points

On "The Board" at FanGraphs they have top exit velos and Lenyn Sosa's is a pretty ??? worthy 116 mph.2 points

I have no idea what is taking Hahn so long to get Madrigal back where he belongs. If the scouts and FO thought, he deserved to be drafted 4th overall in the country...surly he is good enough to play in front of Leury. It would also help me get over the stench of the Kimbrel disaster.2 points

He should have really prevented the pandemic if he wanted to be taken seriously.2 points

Yeah are we sure they don't plan on platooning Romy and Leury, trying to salvage as much of that contract as possible?2 points

We all know Leury will get way too many starts at second.2 points

This is one of the least surprising things this offseason if you have been paying attention.2 points

No one ever bitched about Harry. I liked Hawk also.2 points

Sosa, Romy, Rodriguez. Leury. Burger. And if those guys can't cover it, there will be a Harrison or similar available. The risk of not having 1.5 WAR surety is not much of a risk. Plus, if one or more is really good defensively, that will provide some surety.2 points

I completely dropped the Blackhawks after them protecting a molester. I was following less than ever anyway, but that was a line I couldn't cross. Packed up my gear in a box, quit watching and listening to games, etc. The hire of TLR got me watching and going to fewer games than I had ever gone to in the past.2 points

Trade back from the 2 spot to the Raiders for their first round pick (probably end up top 8 or 9) , Adams, and maybe their 2nd round pick? The 1st is worth 2600 points, the 9th pick is worth around 1350, their 2nd rounder is worth 500. So that puts Adams' value at a late first round pick, which is probably what his true value is given his contract. Raiders can get Stroud, Bears can get a tackle with the 8th pick, a top tier WR, and a nice piece with the 2nd rounder.2 points

2022 Segura 1.8 WAR Harrison 1.4 WAR I think it's about time we roll dice with young folks here. If we can't get 2 WAR from Lenny/Romy, then we just suck at developing even average talent.2 points

I’d say you are way off on Liam’s value. 1 25 year top 50 prospect that hasn’t seen the majors yet isn’t crazy at all. But we can agree to disagree… And I don’t see how anyone could make any kind of argument that Liam is anything worse than the 4th best closer in baseball. Who are these teams you think could swoop in with a better offer if the Dodgers are indeed looking for a closer?2 points

The Segura one hurts in so many ways. a) There's no doubt Hahn wanted Segura. I'd venture a complete guess that 75/25 he went to JR to present the price/ask and was turned down. If we don't have 2/17mm in the chamber, then our offseason is done. b) If he did want Segura, and JR said no, then Hahn likely went to the trade market for feelers on guys like Leury + ___, Kelly, etc. and didn't find anything. If he had motivation to clear space for Segura and couldn't, then it's likely we've seen the last of trades for the Sox c) Segura made so much sense in terms of a double play team, his ability to fill in at SS for Anderson if/when he hits IL or needs an off day. Could also play 3B. He grades out so well at 2B defense, and was a very affordable piece on a very clear need for the Sox. This is our team, this is our future. It's the Sox being stuck in the middle. Mired in mediocrity. Keeping Hendriks & Giolito, getting nothing in return at YE, and also not going for it this year in any way, even when presented with clear, reasonable options like Segura. Hey, at least we'll maybe be able to go after him in the trade market come July if/when Romy/Sosa fail. Though, Marlins already structured his contract where it's backloaded to the team they're going to trade him to. 6.5/8.5 with a 10mm option and a 2mm buyout. So whatever team they ultimately trade him to will pick up basically 1.5 years at 13.5mm. Marlins and White Sox, same franchise.2 points

Not sure if it was mentioned but the arb ruling also docked Trev his next 50 games pay. The money should be donated to a worthy cause I would think.2 points

I would prefer a new broadcast team. Benetti can move on to a full time national gig and Stone can retire. They will be missed like a used rubber.2 points

I know this has been discussed here, along the lines of would you give up on the Sox? Could anything drive you away? Etc. I thought this was very well written trying to describe the emotions of the fan base after last season and why things may be different now: https://www.southsidesox.com/2022/12/29/23529472/2022-the-year-that-broke-chicago-white-sox-fans1 point

Get a damn trade done with a RP like Joe Kelly for a platoon LH 2B with good D and WRC+ north of 100 vs RHP like Guillorme already. Every day I keep checking and they haven't done jack s%*#. Get something done already. Get something fucking done already.1 point

The Sox have been getting 2nd base wrong for almost 20 years but I'm sure they'll finally get it right with a Romy/Sosa/Leury trifecta ?1 point

The Nationwide jingle takes at most 4 seconds to get through. So if a person watches every Sox game (unlikely) and the song is sung every game (which it isn’t) that is 10 minutes and 48 seconds of every year that said person would be subjected to hearing that song. Seems to me that there is way more time spent bitching about hearing the jingle than is actually spent hearing it.1 point

It's Rick Hahn remember. If I could give him any advice it would be never to talk to the media again. He has zero credibility and simply embarrasses himself when he opens his mouth then has to go back and make excuses.1 point

You make a lot of new posts for discussions happening in other posts.. but yes, at this time 2B will be filled internally which we've kinda been told all offseason.1 point

He's a nice player to have on a contending team with starters everywhere. He's the perfect type of utility player that TLR probably thinks Leury is. But he is not gonna give you 600 PAs and be a starter at 2B. That's what the Sox need and Guillorme doesn't fit that role at all.1 point

So the White Sox empty their bullpen to get 2 bench players? lmao1 point

Guillorme doesn't suck at all. Very good D and high obp vs RHP. But not for Hendriks straight up. Definitely for Kelly.1 point
