I don't know anything about him, but if he was really good someone else would have signed him.6 points

There has been no philosophical shift in how they are playing the game from last year to this.5 points

Not a good look....tourists are going to avoid Sox Park altogether to go visit safer parts of the city....like Milennium Park.5 points

I've spent the last 40 years as a cog in the wheel. For the most part, I'm ok with it. My kids turned out pretty well. The wife and I have more than most . I'm lucky enough to see my grand kids all the time. But it really hurts to see fools ruining the destiny of my first love. Kenny and Rick are in over their heads and always have been. Knowing JR couldn't care less makes it worse. We've all been saying the same thing in different ways for 15 years. What's the point? The worst part is billionaires live a long time.4 points

People are nuts if they thought this losing organization would hire someone that would shake things up4 points

To echo/piggyback off your point, most of the regulars that came through the system are guys they acquired in the pre-rebuild fire sale. For all of the high draft picks spent during the rebuild, what do they have to show for it? The rebuild really was one single wave of players coming up around the same time. There was no pipeline of talent established through the tanking years, so they are basically where they were pre-rebuild- a patchwork of talent with no depth behind them and little margin for error if and when things go wrong. Maxed out, no depth, and simply not good enough to compete.4 points

To me the biggest issue is player development. no organization is going to develop perfect players, but they can develop players who will consistently fit into their big league roster and be serviceable. this organization seems to just draft talent and hope it all works out after a few minor league seasons. Players are consistently coming up with the same defects they were drafted with. Yeah, they’re professionals and ultimately responsible for their own development, but if other organizations have a conprehensive strategy (like Cleveland, Minnesota, Tampa, etc.), you end up making the most of your league-minimum players.4 points

Seriously? You just posted “for a team that strongly believes he will be an impact player.” My question was where you got that idea the team strongly believes he will be an impact player. I guess I’ll go with nowhere since you can’t answer a simple question3 points

Bobby Cox would struggle to play .500 with this team. We need to realize it's no longer the manager, the players are the issue. Rick Hahn is the issue. The Sox have created a working environment where if you don't feel 100%, you are automatically told to sit down. It's hard to build continuity with players not playing. I'd like to ask Konerko and Abreu how often they felt 100% when out on that field. You have to push yourself to play over pain. The Sox have created a clubhouse where players accept quitting.3 points

I don't know how anyone can properly evaluate Pedro right now. The bullpen is a complete mess right now, and they would make any manager look bad. If they pitched just middle of the pack this team would be sitting at .500 ball right now. Considering the human turd this team had the last two years running things, I'm willing to give Pedro a huge leash to try and right the ship. I can say with 100% certainty that TLR is by far the worst Sox manager I've ever seen in my lifetime.3 points

My take on Pedro is the same as my take on all Reinsdorf's organization's hires, be it front office, managers, coaches or free agents. If he was really good, someone else would have hired him.3 points
-
That's the point...he was right there and KC didn't want him. To a sharp GM that should have been a huge warning sign not to hire Pedro. KC didn't want Pedro even though he had been there for years. Instead KC went to the outside and hired Matt Quatraro, the bench coach from Tampa Bay. Hahn instead knew better and didn't question that and hired Pedro from a team that was 65-97 last year and haven't had a winning season since 2016. Rick Hahn evidently didn't care that KC didn't hire their own long time coach Pedro. KC wanted to stop the continual losing seasons and wanted Quatraro from the successful Rays who are an obvious consistent winning baseball team and culture.3 points

I have been far from impressed with Pedro so far, but what is the guy supposed to do when his pen has been this bad? We're missing arguably 3 of our best 5 relievers. The pen is only 8 deep and currently includes Jake Diekman, Tanner Banks, Keynan Middleton, Gregory Santos and Jimmy Lambert as 65% of it. The only proven big league arms in the pen are Bummer, Graveman and ReyLo, and they haven't exactly been good either. Its a really tough spot. The pen is so much better once you add in Hendriks, Crochet and Kelly. Jimmy Lambert and one of those other guys should be options 7 and 8 in the pen, not 4 and 5. Its real a problem that the best manager in the game couldn't solve. And Bummer just needs to be so much better.3 points

The future is much much brighter on the North Side of town. The Cubs will win more games than the Sox this year and will spend $$ again this offseason to get better. They also have some legit dudes looming in their farm system. The Sox rebuild has been a massive massive failure. It is probably the least succesful tear down in baseball history. Hahn and company basically wrote the book on how to run your franchise into the ground.3 points

It's the fans fault. I always thought people saying the Sox hate their fans was a bit over the top, but I've been coming around to believing that it's true more and more everyday.3 points

Was Pedro Hired by JR because he wanted someone with experience being on a perennial losing team?2 points

I don’t think the big league deal part is true. My guess is a minors deal with a $2 million bonus.2 points

"Hard to be successful" and "only has so much to work with"? How can that be as this is our championship window!2 points

The last I looked 44 million for relief pitchers was the highest amount for a single team in MLB.2 points

Just to clarify - the employees in the red polo shirts are ushers. Most are very young, the majority seem to be women. Their role is help people find their seats and yes they do the "ticket checking" that tends to alienate a lot of people especially when they do it at a low attendance game (which Saturday afternoon was NOT). They are not trained or expected to break up fights or get involved in physical altercations. Most of the Security guys wear black and white with a white polo or windbreaker that states SECURITY. They are nearly all moonlighting cops from both the suburbs and the city. It is not a good situation when none of the security people appeared on the fight the scene for almost 10 minutes. I wouldn't be surprised if there are a lot less security personnel available with all the issues cops are dealing with now- mandatory OT on their primary job, rules that hamper their ability to do their job etc.2 points

And here I thought signing friends and family was a 2019 thing...2 points

Right now he’s a small part of the problem, if the bullpen had done its job and held on to some leads where we might be 9-7, we would probably be calling him a genius. Injuries are still a problem and who would have thought we would be looking at AV and Eloy without a home run after 16 games. JR and Hahn are the biggest culprits in this mess.2 points

Was excited at first given his reputation (George Brett's comments) but we are seeing the same garbage as before, giving guys time off when they just recently had a team off day or would be getting a team day shortly, bad bullpen decisions, not knowing when to pull a starter and then doubling down on his decisions talking to the media a la TLR.2 points

Like others said, it's probably because Chicago is a laughing stock with the violence and unrest that happened both nights this weekend downtown.2 points

We were all shocked that Pedro was even available. How did KC overlook him when he was right there in the dugout.2 points

You are so right on Bummer. Yet it seems to me this year he looks scared. He looks like that preverbal "deer in headlights" and having zero confidence. You're also right that Diekman sucks and he probably won't get this turned around and if he doesn't he needs to be DFA soon. In both cases, it just shows me a total lack of practice on their part in this last off-season when they should have put more time in perfecting their technique and accuracy on their pitches. This is Diekman's 12th season and Bummer's 7th. As veteran pitchers for what they are paid, they should be able to be more productive and reliable. I don't know, but when we face great relief pitchers that make us look bad, they always seem to pitch with an attitude, confidence and that edge that they are going to throw strikes and get outs. Again, another frustrating example of where Hahn has no clue how to build an effective bullpen through trades and free agent signings, nor does he have the scouts or coaching development setup in the minors to develop good relievers to bring up.2 points

I would be willing to bet that if they gave him the full time DH spot, he would hit 30 - 35 homers and lead the team..and isn't that what the Sox need! Of course, they will still need to address the bullpen if they want to actually win games.2 points

Didn’t they announce the delayed start time hours in advance?2 points

Because it supposedly goes along with the Downtown/Loop Teen Takeover in the minds of Fox News producers? Correlation in their eyes...2 points

Of course the Twins are underachieving offensively with 4-5 regulars out. They have a much better defense, Top 5, better bullpen (not even close) and much more team speed/aggressiveness on the basepaths. And we are already 3-4 games behind two teams, not just one. Not to mention we hear this same exact argument every year about the Twins and/or Guardians having multiple weaknesses.2 points

Do both teams get an additional pitcher on the roster tomorrow, which would be especially handy since Hanser is on the DL??2 points

Fans were responsible for the Bulls front office shake up. Now Jerry is alot less hands on with the Bulls these days than he is with the White Sox but fans must keep demanding change. Hahn is horrible, we all know this. Kenny is horrible, we all know this. Modern baseball has passed them by and they don't know how to adapt to it without insulting the fanbase and blaming all of their problems on injuries. Enough is enough. Fans need to chant "FIRE HAHN, FIRE KENNY" anytime they are trailing during a homegame this season. Let those knuckleheads know that we are done with their B.S. and losing ways. Rick Hahn's record as a GM is BRUTAL. And consequently- Kenny's record as the president of this franchise is the same. BOTH NEED TO GO YESTERDAY! LAST YEAR, HELL- 10 years ago! Jerry is holding this franchise hostage and he's too stuborn and/or senile to admit to it.2 points

https://nypost.com/2023/04/16/brawl-ensues-at-white-sox-game-security-hardly-anywhere-to-be-found/ This can only happen under the brilliant ownership of Jerry Reinsdorf and from the leadership of Jerry's stellar executive Rick Hahn. There were not enough security guards around! Hmm, Jerry must have told Rick in a memo, cut back on the number of security guards to increase the bottom line profit.2 points

Interesting. Almost like the players were trained behave a certain way while learning how to play professional baseball.2 points

The Mets’ Trumpets for Diaz entering seemed pretty darn epic to me, they even brought in the guy who played the song for the playoffs last year. The problem is this specific player and the uncaring, no class organization around him.2 points

26 walks in the series? While that is really bad, I’m not going to place that entirely on Katz, though he does share in the blame. I’m going to credit Baltimore for having disciplined approaches with a plan at the plate. They were happy to take a walk when there wasn’t a good pitch to hit. Unlike the home team flailing at breaking balls low and away, chasing time and again.2 points

his weakness isn't picking consensus top prospects, just look at any prospect list and throw a dart or pick the highest ranked guys that fill a need based on position his weakness is developing them because we don't have adequate coaches and systems in place on the farm I don't have any issues with wanting Hahn as far away as possible from another reboot, I'm just saying the easiest part of said reboot/rebuild is selecting the highest ranked prospects for whoever you're trading If you're asking me to choose between (assuming Hahn/KW is gonna be in charge) Keep the same core and try this same experiment again until their contracts are up or blow it up I'm 100% on the blow it up side2 points

I am as frustrated as anyone, but we all know even in the best of times, the Sox go through a 16 game stretch where they lose 10 games. Of course, starting the season that way doesn't give much hope it's going to get dramatically better. Defense and the bullpen are killing this team.2 points

Rick Hahn Quote of the Day: (On the latest Yoan Moncada injury) “But we are optimistic we’ll be able to knock this thing out of him. Then all his problems will be behind him.” Until he fouls a ball off his foot a week later and acts like it needs to be amputated or tweeks a leg muscle trying to run to first or catch a pop up. ?2 points

Hahn recently said that he knew the "Sox haven't proved anything." Actually they have...they proved that with an incompetent, dysfunctional and inept front office you can completely flush a rebuild and a "window of contention" right down the toilet.2 points

That's why they should've never gotten rid of Yolmer. You need a professional to handle those Gatorade jugs.2 points

Burger is just better than Sheets, as many people have already said. Don't know if you can get anything for Sheets but it's time to try, a mediocre bullpen arm would be an upgrade for this team. You also have to pencil in at least 40 missed games for Moncada and probably for Eloy. He gives Vaughn a rest here and there too. No reason why Burger shouldn't be in the starting lineup 100+ times per year and pinch hitting most other days.2 points

Just like to mention that Sholtens started for Charlotte tonight getting the win. He went five innings with 11 Ks and NO walks allowed2 points

If our hitters were selective we would be walking 8 times a game. Opponents realize our guys are all over the place and are being patient2 points

I'll be honest, if I were an MLB gm, and my lefty specialist came into a game and walked the lefty he was facing on 4 pitches, I'd be faxing the league office his release papers before he even gets off the mound. It's probably one of many reasons I'm not an MLB gm.2 points
