Tex that's out of character for you. You are my favorite gun owner in the world and yet u blast my priests at Bro Rice. As far as today's win, sorry folks we can build a staff around Clevinger. Keep him. That's one decent starter and only one. i've given up on Mr. Walk, Cease.3 points

Didn’t watch the game. Checked out the box score. My first thought was that it would have been hilarious if Kopech still somehow got the loss out of the pen.2 points

Join us for tomorrow's gamethread where we will discuss lemonade vs iced tea....with a hearty argument over whether Arnie Palmer actually invented the Arnie Palmer. Stay tuned.....feel free to also discuss baseball if you wish.2 points

Well, I’m thankful we didn’t draft Mike Trout and sign Shohei Otahni and waste them. That’s a plus, right?2 points

They can’t go on short staffing the player acquisitions/development areas. If we don’t hear anything about change right there, then why would we ever invest our time and money with this franchise ever again.2 points

No one answered this so I will. 2017 and 2018: Kopech starts off both years in the minors. He sets up a pattern, he struggles with his control early in the year then his control and performance improve during the year. He looks like a guy with a big arm but who needs work to find his control. In 2018, there is a game early in the year where he walks 5 in a short outing and it shows in his stats. Then he goes the month of July and barely walks anyone, he has clearly found a groove, and gets called up. He pitches 4 games and leaves with TJS. He is out through the end of 2019. Some people have disputed whether he should have been called up at the time, it was controversial, I personally had no problem with it as I felt he had done what he needed to do in Charlotte and it was time to give him some big league innings before the season ended. In 2020, for various personal reasons, he opts out of the shortened COVID season. While this isn't the team's fault at all, this does mean that he hasn't thrown a pitch in anger in nearly 3 years by the time he comes back in Spring Training of 2021. So you have a guy who has a live arm, hasn't pitched competitively in 3 years, and had a couple cycles of of "Needing to build up innings so that his control would improve". This seems like a guy who should absolutely be sent to the minors to start 2021, or at least given a method to be able to start for a part of a season, he needs a chance to throw as many innings as he can. Personally I would have put him in the minors and said so repeatedly at the time, they should have been trying to push him up to 100+ competitive innings to strengthen his arm. They put him in the bullpen to start the year. Ok, fine, they moved him to starting in May when someone was hurt, and then he hurt his leg and went on the IL. When he came back, they brought him back without any minor league rehab stint, brought him back right before the all star break so he had extra time just sitting around, and then buried him at the back of the bullpen for 2 months. He had a grand total of 2 outings that reached 2 innings in all of July and August combined. He didn't throw 3 innings in an outing again until September 29. Don't get me started on how he was used in the playoffs as that was LaRussa stupid too. He threw a total of just over 70 innings the whole year. At the time, I guarantee you I was saying "Fine, this might work for this year, but you're taking the risk that the guy will not be able to find the kind of control he was developing in the long seasons in 2017 and 2018, and you're risking whether he can strengthen his arm enough to be a starter with this short of a season." What are his problems now? Control, use of his secondary stuff, and a few additional injuries. Now that's not necessarily the only problem he had, 3 years off is going to be tough to come back from for anyone. He may well have other personal issues, I don't know anything about his current work ethic, and Ethan Katz may well have no good solutions for him. But in terms of mishandling him, for both Kopech and Crochet they put them in the 2021 bullpen to "Win now" and one of the risks of doing so was "This might help you right now and leave you with both of these guys struggling with injury and control if you try to move them to starters." That is precisely what happened, and I continue to believe that this is no coincidence, the White Sox gambled these guys' future as starters was unimportant compared to their 2021 success, and wound up with guys who can't handle themselves as starters.2 points

No way in hell the way Moncada and Kpoech have turned out we didn't get slaughtered. You don't trade a guy like Sale without receiving major young talent that pans out. In fact by Jerry's own criteria: "You have to have four prospects who can’t possibly miss to get one," White Sox chairman Jerry Reinsdorf told CSN. "I’ve seen so many players over the years who were going to be phenoms, they were going to be future Hall of Famers, and we don’t even remember what their names are anymore. That’s why when you’re trading a player of stature you’ve got to get multiple can’t-miss prospects back. That’s why it makes it tough to trade a player of great stature."1 point

I view yesterday's game as a hiccup in the 2023 White Sox quest for a 100 loss season. Hopefully, the Sox will get back on track tonight with a loss. You know how it goes, even bad teams win occasionally.1 point

The correct answer, Polish Sausage, Beers and Mashed Potatoes and Gravy with The Crusher. "I'm going to start eating 6 pounds of Polish Sausage a day, Increase my beer from a case to a case and a half, and I'm going to eat a lot of mashed potatoes and gravy."1 point

Brooks Boyer's commercial was brilliant. For the first time, it demonstrated that someone in the organization understood Sox fans. In politics, you have to win your core voters first. Then you can reach out to others. The commercial rallied the Sox faithful and that was sorely needed. Yes, cub fans and the Chicago sports media cried like babies, but so what? Like Lip said, you have to be aggressive. Things are at a bigger low now. The team is losing some of its most loyal fans. They need to do something creative. The same old nonsense is not going to work. It's time to reach out to your base while there is a base left.1 point

160, because the other teams genuinely can't believe the Sox are serious and don't show up until 15 minutes after game time and the Sox are declared victors.1 point

this just tells you how broken bWAR is vs fWAR for pitchers. Kopech sucks but a real pitching coach could probably fix his (and the teams) control issues1 point

Lance Lynn has given up a 6+ run/2+ HR inning for the second consecutive start. Also his second game in a row failing to finish the 5th: 4.2 IP, 7 H, 8 ER (3 HR), 3 BB, 1K. 24 hits (7HR), 6 walks, and just 3 (!!!) strikeouts in his last 3 starts (15IP)1 point

Seems like the Sox should have gotten a lot more than just Eder for Burger. Eder sounds like a total reclamation project with a high probability of never making the big leagues. Jake Burger is producing in real time right now and is a cheap cost controlled player.1 point

Lance Lynn did his usual post-inning swearing into the void, and the Dodgers broadcaster threw some shade about how he must be fired up by being "miles away from pitching for the White Sox." The next inning he loads the bases, walks in the tying run, gives up a slam to Acuna Jr, and then another HR for good measure while racking up 60 pitches through 2IP. Ironically, turns in a a worse line (4.1IP, 7ER, 7H, 2BB, 1K, 3HR) than he did for the White Sox in the exact same matchup vs. Strider and the Braves (5.1IP, 6H, 4ER, 3BB, 6K 2HR, W) I liked Lynn and I don't think he's totally cooked, but the "stupid Sox, Dodgers found one simple trick to make him a 2 ERA pitcher" narrative while he was pitching to soft offenses and still running a high FIP/low BABIP was annoying. He has more HRs (5) and walks (3) allowed than Ks (2) in his past two starts, and more hits allowed (17) than innings (10.1). But sure, the Dodgers "fixed his pitch mix" or whatever.1 point
