  1. If she came here, it would take her like a year to learn the whole org so
    10 points
  2. Just insane to not even give yourself a chance at seeing what was on the market. Why not just make Getz interim GM, so at least you could see who was gonna be available? You could always fall back on promoting him to permanent GM if you didn’t like what you saw. There’s precedent for it and you’d have a clear leader managing the offseason so you wouldn’t have a rudderless ship in the meantime. All upside, no downside. Then — get this — you could add someone from outside the org that had to “learn the whole system,” but you’d have Getz there anyway the whole time to help! You’d be literally NO worse than now in terms of “knowledge of the system.” I cannot get over this. Reinsdorf firing his FO and then promoting their fifth in command without even considering interviewing anyone else might actually be the stupidest, least defensible business decision I’ve ever witnessed. Complete and total unforced error; he literally could had his cake and eaten it too simply by calling Getz and interim leader and delaying the decision until he had more info. Absolute clown show. Unbelievable. I’m searching for hyperbole and cannot find it.

  3. You make a compelling argument, but my counter argument: The White Sox operate like fucking idiots.

  4. But Kim Ng on the market just reinforces what a stupid hire Chris Getz was. Ng, James Click and Chaim Bloom are all available. I'm sure there are plenty of other GMs that would be able to learn an org in under a year. They probably don't retain Grifol because they don't have the Royals connection. Suddenly you can interview real managers.

  11. Would love to have Kim Ng back in Chicago with the White Sox. Bring Burger back as well. Getz promotion was an unforced error and regretful example of the Peter principle. Maybe reverse the wheels, hire Kim as GM and find another job for Getz.

  13. The phrasing of this sentence reminds me of A&W's Third-of-a-Pound burger: https://www.snopes.com/news/2022/06/17/third-pound-burger-fractions/ Anyway, that's my sparse contribution to this thread.

  14. Normal people will look at that poll and think, "wow - we suck." The Sox FO would look at that poll and think, "see? Hiring from the Royals' Front Office makes sense, and here's the evidence to prove it."

  16. They had the #1 pick and the most cap space in the league and somehow managed to get worse. That's not easy to do.

  21. Yeah I doubt it. She's not taking a backseat to Chris Getz; nor should she.

  22. Way to undercut Getz, lol...clown show. Any other organization, he would be somewhere between 4th and 6th in the pecking order, at best.

  23. It would definitely be worse with Haber from all reports about his pretty outlandish "stats geek" style and personal low EQ approach. Hostetler...probably worse. Hard to say. We still don't know the ultimate fate of either one of those guys. Would honestly take Paddy running the whole show if you gave him a real budget to run things how he sees fit, which would never happen in a million years. We'd rather spend millions on the Leury's and Emilio Bonifacio's of the world. Or Friends & Family Plan.

  24. Harper, Castellanos, Schwarber HRs. Phil's really know how to pick free agents! Who would have thought the most talented free agents would produce and be worth their contracts leading a team to back to back LCS.

  25. No chance of JR signing her. Getz has hired his own team and was promised to be the decision maker. This is all speculation. No chance she comes to CWS.

  29. October 16, 1952 - The Sox sent infielder Willie Miranda to the St. Louis Browns in a trade. So what? Well, consider this; it marked the third time in four months that he was dealt between the two clubs! Miranda was traded to the Browns on June 15… 13 days later the Sox re-acquired him and finally on this date they sent him back. The entire situation developed like this. He was traded along with Al Zarilla to the Browns for Tom Wright and Leo Thomas on June 15. The Browns then waived him on June 28, the Sox claimed him and he returned. Then on October 16 he was sent back to St. Louis along with Hank Edwards for Joe DeMaestri and Tommy Byrne. October 16, 2005 - The White Sox won their sixth league championship beating the Angels 6-3, taking the series 4-1. Jose Contreras fired the fourth consecutive complete game by the staff in the clinching game #5. The four consecutive post season complete games hadn’t been seen in Major League baseball since the 1956 Yankees pulled it off. After losing the first game of the A.L.C.S. the Sox swept away Los Angeles. Paul Konerko was named the A.L.C.S. M.V.P. as he hit .286 with six hits, two home runs and seven RBI’s in the five-game series. The city of Chicago, especially on the South Side and in the South suburbs went wild as the nuclear scenario happened for Cub fans…. the Sox were in the World Series!

  31. How could she walk away from Burger? Is she ok?

  32. She will get work elsewhere. Taking the final option year without an extension means you are operating as a lame duck. No mention she was offered an extension in the two articles I've read. Turning back to the pathetic White Sox, here is another far superior and more experienced hire than what asshole Jerry rushed. Chris Getz' introductory press conference.

  36. If they pick up his option, it would be more proof JR crying poor all their years was BS. No one loves all that Liam brings to the table more than me, but give him the buyout and do something that makes sense for a couple of years.

  37. Jerry didn’t go to all the trouble to include a crazy deferred buyout to ultimately not use it when the opportunity presents itself. The old man hasn’t been this excited since Albert Belle opted out of his contract due to us not honoring the “top three highest paid player” clause.

  40. But like in what bizarro, non-Euclidean universe could any semi-literate person come to the conclusion that the White Sox could afford to trade starting pitching from their MLB roster going into 2024? Like, I know I've been beating the ever-loving s*** out of the "Sox don't have enough pitching depth" drum since, it feels like maybe since I was born at this point, but there are literally two starting pitchers on the 40-man right now other than Cease. The rotation would actually be ACE Mike Clevinger, Touki Toussant, and 3 bullpen games per week. And Clevinger is gone anyway because he has a mutual option.

  41. He is Cuban, so at least we know the Sox are allowed to sign him. In all seriousness he is the type of guy that would help a Sox Hail Mary(tm) contention push but also bring a lot back at the deadline in the likely event that the push falls short.

  42. Definitely an MLB arm. One of the top 5 or so relievers in NPB. Would be an elite closer if he didn't have arguably the league's best closer blocking him on his own team (Raidel Martinez). Mostly a fastball/slider guy, throws mid-to-upper 90s. Like others of his ilk, his control disappears at times, but the slider is a 3D wipeout pitch, and he actually has a changeup, even if it's worse than the other two pitches. I don't think he'll be elite over here, but he definitely belongs and will be a good pickup for a contender.

  44. I'm old school and look at batting average first and home runs second with 1B / DH players, Extrapolated season average hitting for Vaughn and Eloy from baseball reference: Vaughn over three years and 1493 ABs hitting average is .256 with 21 HRs Eloy over five years and 1642 ABs hitting average is .275 with 33 HRs Yes, Eloy has been on the injured list but a lot of that has been overblown, including surgery to get his appendix removed and a freak injury reaching to save a HR in ST. Also he is now a DH so the injury argument is largely inapplicable. Athleticism: Eloy is a tall player with some speed. Vaughn looks like he is boxing out with age and is already one of the slowest players in MLB. Intangibles: Eloy is a character that some like or don't like for whatever their reasons might be, but he adds to the team and is a cheerleader for other players in the dugout. Vaughn is more reserved which is fine. Neither player is a problem in the clubhouse. Eloy appears to have better plate coverage. Vaughn still has issues hitting outside pitches and is repeatedly victimized by outside sliders with 2 strikes. I would keep both players for one more year. There is much to do to improve this team that does not involve Eloy or Vaughn.
