Please be another leak to pressure BAL. position player prospects >>> SP prospects5 points

I've been under the impression something has been close for almost a week. Pretty obvious at this point its Cease bouncing.4 points

Technically, they really don't have anyone of value DHing or batting behind Robert right now either. I'd pitch around Robert if the guy behind him had a .758 OPS too.4 points
-
They got pitching in other moves. They need some premium position prospects. Thats why BAL is such a great partner. You can get 2 good position players and maybe you can still get a very decent pitching prospect as the 3rd piece. ATL frankly is an awful trading partner, nothing but pitchers and RHH.4 points

I went back through his MLBTR saga. I had it backwards. In the past teams negotiated exclusively with clubs and basically whomever paid the highest fee would have exclusive rights to negotiate a contract. Meada was too old for the IAFA pool which is capped at 25 (which he would have been posted under otherwise and was recently changed at that time - I may have been thinking of another japanese pitcher). https://www.mlb.com/glossary/transactions/japanese-posting-system The MLB changed the structure so that the maximum fee paid to japanese clubs would be 20M and anyone willing to pay that fee could negotiate a contract. Dodgers won at 8/25 like you said but the total was actually 100M with incentives. I have no idea if he reached those incentives https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2016/01/dodgers-to-sign-kenta-maeda.html Anyways always good to learn something. Had no idea that that posting process was so convoluted.3 points

Also seems light to me as well Sox do not need to rush this process. While I think it is likely a club finally meets the high asking price and they deal him, the Sox also are not forced to accept a subpar offer.3 points

While I don’t disagree with your main point, there are quite a few “interesting” arms in the system beyond those three. Honestly, I don’t feel very good about the bats after Colson, Ramos, Quero, and maybe Gonzalez. I think it’s far more likely we luck into a couple SPs that exceed our expectations than it is for a positional guy to come out of nowhere and be impactful. And I can’t even imagine how devastating it would be to acquire a big SP prospect for Cease only for them to get injured and need a major surgery right away. I’d rather keep attacking pitching via the draft where we can throw volume at it and have a stable positional core to build around.3 points

Literally anyone can DH, you don't have to be a big slow plodder to occupy the DH spot. That was what was meant when the Sox had too many DH's, slow big men who can't play anywhere else.3 points

I've never seen somebody try to spin the most dominant post season in MLB history as some sort of squeaker. Fascinating3 points

https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2023/11/tigers-to-sign-kenta-maeda.html It appears Detroit is the lone team in the division looking to compete in 2024. Nice they have a solid broadcaster to also keep the fans entertained. Sox will have five open rotation spots if they trade Dylan Cease. 2024 Free Agent Signings To Date - Pitchers $172.0M (7) Aaron Nota Philadelphia 4.2 Projected 2024 fWAR $30.0M (3) Reynaldo Lopez Atlanta 0.8 $26.0M (3) Joe Jimenez Atlanta 0.4 $24.0M (2) Kenta Maeda Detroit 2.0 $14.3M (2) Pierce Johnson Atlanta 0.7 $12.0M (1) Kyle Gibson Saint Louis 2.1 $11.0M (1) Lance Lynn Saint Louis 2.3 $4.5M (1) Colin Rae Milwaukee 1.4 $0.9M (1) Adam Kolarek Los Angeles A. Me too look at what Q went for and other pitchers. I don't expect a couple of top 100 prospects I expect one top 15 prospect and one fringy top 50 prospect. Heck Giolito and Lopez went for two top 100 prospects and they are certainly not as good nor had any control (less than half a season). I expect if a team doesn't pony up now they'll do so at the deadline everyone needs starting pitching.2 points
-
The Os could hug 3 or 4 specific prospects really tightly and still make a good offer.2 points
-
I think the question though is just looking for teams that are probably close to max spending and just have a few needs. With Cubs, they may come into play, but not until the board is more resolved. But I guess I would say I think the NL central is more likely to trade for him than AL east2 points
-
Obviously they should take the best package offered, but ideally I think the two best players coming back for Cease should be a left handed hitting OF and a MLB ready SP as those are 2 of the most glaring needs at the moment.2 points
-
I agree - maximize now. I get it - he could improve his value with a strong 1st half of the year, however, I still think he's one year off Cy Young type season and is under control for 2 years at reasonable cost. Teams will pay for his peak or close to it now given the value in the control to a contender. Well worth getting now than taking on the injury risk and potential production risk vs. maybe getting an extra 20% more return if he were to go out and totally ball out.2 points
-
And he has two years of control, won't re-sign here and the White Sox will be bad next year. They'll get a lot in return. They need to move him though.2 points

Braves were in deep on Gray and Nola. Their system isn't good but it's pitching heavy. I doubt they could pull this off without including AJ Smith Shawver. Grissom doesn't do much for me. Waldrep, Murphy and Schwellenbach are all really interesting young arms but they need position players in return for Cease imo. I'd probably need something like: Aj Smith Shawver, Spencer Schwellenbach, Owen Murphy and Luis Guanipa to deal with the Braves.2 points

That’s fine. It tightens up the pitching supply and we no longer have to listen to St. Louis fans offering up the junk drawer of a 70-win team for Cease.2 points
-
I'm holding on Eloy for sure. If you want to move him, now isn't the time. He has so much more value to gain from a healthy season than he has value to lose from another mediocre one. And you're not reinvesting the money in any meaningful way anyhow.2 points
-
Yeah, I guess I don't understand the point of trading Cease to fill holes. If you're going to trade Cease, which seems like the likely outcome, they need to focus on getting a team to move 3 of their top prospects. Why do we care about trading for a 2B who isn't going to make much of a difference on a team that would likely lose 90+ games? Trading Cease means you are rebuilding. They may not want to use that word, but if they want to scare off the remaining fanbase, trade him for major league talent that just fills holes to "shake things up".2 points

He’s better off getting into the pitching lab in LA to see if they can make some tweaks and make him more consistent. Also near home. Good fit.1 point

Oh yeah, I figured $3M tops. Guy is lucky he didn’t get an MiLB deal after his last few years.1 point

lol It's sink or swim here. "Showing the patience to rebuild his value" would be akin to just letting him flail more before letting him drown. At least other teams would provide structure - or at least a different structure and set of coaching compared to what we would do.1 point

Dodgers seem to make a ton of sense then given this comment. They were rumored in a few weeks ago, then today a Braves report. Which sounds like a leak since it makes no sense since they couldn't pull it off.. Who has been their biggest NL threat? Dodgers. Maybe trying to push the Dodgers over?1 point

I'd like for us to start signing buy low candidates. We should be taking a flier on Giolito. I doubt he gets a multiyear deal. He was comfortable here. Would he come back for 1/14 to 1/16?1 point
-
Robert Murray on baseball insiders says he doesnt buy the Atlanta thing, because Alex A. looks to trade for guys he can extend-- not the Boras-typical play. He buys LAD more since the orgs know each other well. Also mentioned Giolito-to-LAD for multiyear is something he can see happening1 point
-
Yeah if we are only getting one top 100 prospect and then some other guys, I would just risk holding him till the deadline.1 point

That first contract he signed with the Dodgers was insanely cheap. 8 years/ $25M? Damn.1 point

Maybe I'm just a sensitive bears fan, but I really dislike how NFL media enjoys a good pile-on when a team is down. NFL commentary boils down to "Good teams great oh my god so great! Bad teams bad oh my god trash"1 point

The problem is all the baseball writers & insiders are suggesting India would be a major piece for a SP. That is what people are commenting on here.1 point

He's definitely a guy that was only going to go to a team really serious about winning a World Series. Big move by the Tigers. I'm certain they are cheering this signing all over Michigan.1 point

Right now I think the Sox keep Eloy as well as Vaughn and of course Robert, if those 3 play to their potential it’s not a bad middle of the the order, the key is getting those 3 as well as others in the lineup to start working counts and stop swinging at everything without any kind of a plan while in the batters box. I also think Benintendi is going to do fine as a lead off guy, he was hampered last year with the bad wrist and he should be back to normal hitting close to .300 with more power, probably 15 homers. Now we come to Moncada, he’s basically un-tradable so we have to hope that someone kicks this guy in the ass and he’s the Moncada of 2019, the guy is a damn good fielder. We still need a rightfielder and a second sacker and catching is a big question mark. That brings us to the pitching staff, Getz is going to have to perform miracles to come up with a Major League staff, not sure how he does that if we keep everybody I mentioned, he’s definitely between a rock and a hard place. He can trade most of them and maybe have a decent pitching staff but a minor league batting order, the other scenario which I’m not holding my breath on is signing a bunch of premier free agents.1 point

I highly doubt he extends with anyone. You don't hire Scott Boras to sign a below market extension1 point
