Are you kidding me? The Sox would love this guy. 1 pulled fly ball, rest of them grounders to the opposite field. Literally the model hitter the Sox have been wanting.9 points

Yeah, every GM in baseball would take the 20 year old LHP with TOR potential over the 25 year old middle infielder prospect.8 points

Dylan Cease will move before spring training. Probably sometime is January.7 points

Dude, you're over here calling White Sox fans biased, on a White Sox message board, while failing to see your own deep bias towards your own prospects. We are all entitled to our opinions, but you are coming off as extremely arrogant while showing your own biased ignorance.6 points

It’s fine. It’s just going to lead to Caulfield bringing in a bunch of yahoo articles about demographic declines and city rankings5 points

You can’t possibly think that’s how any of us feel, right? No one hates the Sox more than Sox fans.5 points

The reason we happen to be on this board is that @Chicago White Sox came onto our board first and posted his thoughts about a Cease trade for a week or two. Nobody from Miami, Cleveland and Milwaukee has done that. I might add that we had quite a good conversation going with @Chicago White Sox over there. I am sorry that the conversation over here has taken some bad turns over the last week or so. I am bowing out of this discussion for now, though I might return if concrete reports of a pending trade appear from a credible source. I wish the Sox all the best in their efforts to get a good return for Cease.4 points

Soxtalk - For the record, Role Tide has it made it very clear to me over at the Hangout that he hates advanced metrics (FIP specifically), he hates everything about Fangraphs (f*** those nerds), doesn’t believe that defense or ballpark factors matter (just a bunch of excuses), and that ERA is the end all be all when evaluating pitchers because at some point “only results matter”. He will never appreciate the value of Cease because he is a dinosaur that’s determined to be willfully ignorant and avoid potential data points when forming his opinions. I know people have been beating up on @Sports Guy and to a lesser extent @Frobby, but both have acknowledged that Cease would not come cheap and they have both expressed a willingness to trade a 55 FV prospect (Kjerstad or Cowser) plus a 50 FV prospect (Ortiz) for Cease. We may not feel it’s enough or like the specific players, but it’s not a ridiculous proposal. It’s actually only Role Tide who feels their top 5 prospects should be off limits and that an Ortiz & garbage package should be enough to get Cease.4 points

Oh man, that proposal includes one of the “untouchable” Orioles prospects Basallo and it says the White Sox still say no to the deal ?3 points
-
Same can be said for the Orioles yet you’ve spent the past 100 pages insisting that Baltimore won’t trade certain guys for Cease when nobody knows if that’s true or not.3 points
-
Anyone Bears fan who watches both Stroud and Fields and is happy to settle for Fields is insane. It’s not even close. Stroud’s supporting cast is worse than Fields’ and Stroud keeps losing his receiver targets, yet still keeps getting it done.3 points

While the Sox were making changes - FutureSox.com has also made a change, returning to its independent roots after an 18 month partnership with SoxMachine. While we appreciated the partnership we had with SoxMachine and the whole team there, I am personally excited for FutureSox's return as a true independent, with Mike Rankin, James Fox and the rest of the amazing cast and characters (Steve Hasman (aka Sleepy Harold), Ken Sawilchik, Jeff Cohen, Julie Brady, Elijah Evans, Jasper Roos, Jeff Feverer, Jason Lowenthal, Rob Young, and Dan Santaromita (aka one of the original godfater(s) of FutureSox) continuing to do what they do best - delivering the absolute BEST White Sox focused minor league content on the planet. And one ask, this whole crew puts a ton of blood, sweat and tears into producing this content, so for anyone willing and able, who loves the great content FutureSox has been providing for 20+ years now, please support their efforts through its Patreon site. Excited to see the continued growth of the franchise, brand, and the quality and insights the entire team delivers to Sox fans everywhere (no matter how sad all of us are at the current state of the franchise). Note: I also personally apologize, because as the superstitious individual I am, I can't help but notice a correlation to the White Sox performance during that timeframe3 points

Good question. Why the need to repeatedly brow beat Sox fans on a Sox board with such arrogant and ignorant posts is beyond me. @Frobby is more than welcome to stick around though. I appreciate the insight from a knowledgeable O's fan who is level headed and not reactionary in disagreement. I suggest the other two meet with a mass ignore list addition.3 points

Wow. 4 pages of Baltimore fans arguing that their #90 ranked prospect is better than our #30 ranked prospect. Intangibles? I can just imagine them on some Brewers board, s%*#-talking Burnes and expressing they'd much rather trade for Cease. LOL.3 points
-
You're worried about Cease's velocity decrease, which is a valid concern, but did you take a look and see the drop-off Burnes had last year? Cease dropped around 1 MPH on all of his pitches last year, but so did Burnes. Let's look at this objectively. You'd give up a lot (I'm not sure what your definition of a lot is though) for just 1 year of Burnes at $14 million. But would not give up a lot for Cease, who has 2 years of control at roughly $22 million ($8.5 million this year, 13.5 million next year)? Even if you think Burnes is a 5 WAR pitcher and Cease is, say, a 3.5 WAR pitcher. You're paying $14 million for 5 WAR in 1 year vs. $22 million for 7 WAR in 2 years. Yes you might be better off rate-wise next year, but Cease's extra control gives him more surplus value.3 points
-
Very much so. Which is a useful player but not a top tier piece in a trade for a dependable starting pitcher.3 points
-
Which illustrates a fundamental difference as we argue over the value of some of these prospects. We’re scarred by poor development and failed prospects, while O’s fans are wearing rose colored glasses with their Adley and Gunnar jerseys. I get the thinking on both sides.3 points
-
Has anyone even watched highlights of Ortiz? I couldn’t be more out on him, as he gives me terrifying Madrigal flashbacks.3 points
-
You don’t really need to go this deep into it. Bottom line is a bunch of O’s posters felt the need to sign up here, do whatever it is they were motivated to do, and report back and snicker about it on their board. But that isn’t going both ways. Honestly, I think that’s all that needs to be said.3 points

This has nothing to do with “ego”. I’m sure James could give two shits that you laughed at his post. It’s more that it’s absolutely clownish you called a guy who runs a website & podcast centered around minor league baseball and the draft “biased” because he doesn’t agree with your simplistic take anchored to one set of outdated prospect rankings. And your obsession to published rankings that you still can’t explain how the underlying logic works is wild to me. Don’t get me wrong, they are a great reference point to understand directional value but without any context it’s straight dumb to say one 50 FV prospect is better than another 50 FV prospect. Everyone has different risk-reward tolerances, so yeah some people would value the still developing 21 year old catcher with room for growth over the soon to be 26 year old physically maxed out SS prospect.3 points

Yeah he’s not a better prospect than Schultz and I’d take the 21-year-old Quero as well3 points

It would be hilarious if Elias, in the interest of saving some $, employed a troll farm to neg trade targets on opposing teams' message boards as a psy-op of some sorts. Too bad Chris Getz doesn't read these boards.2 points

I don’t think anyone is arguing that a Cowser/Ortiz headliner, with another piece or two for lotto tickets, is a bad deal. I’m not big on Ortiz for the reasons I’ve already mentioned so I’d prefer a different player, but the headliner is definitely solid. It sounds like that’s not even on the table though, based on the leaked ask from the Sox and what @Harold's Leg Lift had said about the Orioles not being serious. If the O’s are trying to headline with someone like Ortiz or Norby then it’s not even worth discussing.2 points
-
As someone who actually likes the O’s and has enjoyed watching their rise while waiting out this absolute shitshow that is the White Sox, I sure hope the bar is a little higher than a Kyle Gibson upgrade.2 points
-
This goes back to the negotiating discussion. He should start out absurd and then work his way down. Just like the opposing GM should start with a low ball offer and work his way up. The entire goal for Getz is to get as much as possible and the entire goal for the opposing GM is to give up as little as possible. I don't know why most of the Baltimore fans think the beginning or middle of negotiations is a static offer.2 points
-
Wait, are you actually saying that your recent track record of success with prospects doesn’t make you more optimistic about others in your system than fans of other teams would be? I literally don’t know what you’re LOL’ing about here. I’d feel the same if I were an O’s fan.2 points
-
And all they have to show for it at this point is a cocky fanbase, a first round sweep exit in the playoffs and a current rotation that will have them middle of the pack at best in the east. Congrats!2 points

Updated packages I would be willing to accept: NYY: Domínguez (OF), Hampton (RHP), Lombard (SS) NYM: Williams (SS), Clifford (OF), Tidwell (RHP) BAL: Mayo (3B/OF), Kjerstad (OF), McDermott (RHP)2 points

Certainly Grayson Rodriguez will just follow a linear development path like Kopech did and win the Cy Young this season. Nothing to worry about at all with his wonderful raw stuff.2 points

@Rolle Tide - You just “laughed” at the managing editor of our Future Sox prospect website, who is basically the equivalent of Tony over at the Hangout. To mock a post where he’s simply sharing his opinion is absolutely obnoxious.2 points

The list you’re referring to is old. Schultz will be a consensus top 50 prospect once all lists have been updated.2 points
-
I think the age matters less than most. Would I prefer he be 22-24? Yah, sure. For me it’s more than he has limited upside, pretty much needs to play SS to have value and our top prospect who isn’t terribly far away plays the same position. I’d be perfectly fine taking Ortiz back as a secondary piece in a Cease deal, but most certainly would NOT value him as a top 50 type prospect at his age and skill set.2 points

Never fall into the trap of expecting Reinsdorf to make decisions with logic. He’s like my four-year old daughter, in that they both get frustrated and stubborn when they find out the world doesn’t work how they wanted it to, and sometimes grumpily go on pretending that it does even so — the only difference between him and her is that he has billions of dollars and everyone has to listen to him. Reinsdorf sees the Royals championship window and pines for it — suck dick for 30 years, obtain exactly one good prospect for each spot on the field, have them all break out at the exactly same time and win a championship with a bottom-third payroll. That is the dream for him. It doesn’t matter that it’s a demonstrably terrible plan that failed for decades for multiple franchises before it improbably worked once, akin to watching your broke neighbor finally win big money on a scratchy lottery ticket and then deciding to mimic his life decisions, Reinsdorf is going to press on pretending it makes sense no matter how much evidence to the contrary that is shoved into his path every day, just like my daughter is going to continue to ask me if we can put the Christmas tree back up so Santa will come back this weekend. You can explain the calendar all you want, and on some level she understands, but it hasn’t stopped her from carrying on anyway. So I wouldn’t put anything past him. He’s also a proven liar, so you’d think the whole story about hiring Getz as part of a plan to avoid a rebuild was textbook bullshit, but he’s also the most delusional business person I’ve ever had the misfortune of spending this much time thinking about, so he might actually really believe himself. In that case, he may actually want Ortiz.2 points
-
Well, that’s only possible if you still think Ortiz is rated the 50th overall prospect in the MLB, which he won’t be due to his age once MLB updates their list.2 points

Ideally, but our consultants in Baltimore informed us this is the best we can get.2 points
