  1. Talk with your bat, glove, arm, and legs.

  2. I don't think they're asking for too much. Teams see there are still other options available so at this time they're unwilling to be the one to step up and pay the price. Those options will eventually sign and there will be teams left with a serious need for top end pitching. Patience

  3. I mean, I’d like to take my sons to SoxFest who want to go to see players and get autographs. Yelling is actually a second for me (although I’d love to partake) and I’m sure there are many others with young children who feel the same.

  5. I'll take this kind of deal all day compared to what they've given relief pitchers in the past.

  6. Oh no- you've asked us to unsubscribe you from Swisher Love. We just wanted to check that you know this means that we can't tell you about special offers, meet and greets or potential epic baseball comebacks by Nick Swisher. Note that you may continue to receive messages and offers until Nick is voted in to the Hall of Fame

  7. I don't see nearly the negativity from the outside sources. I am curious to see this kid play a full season of ball so that we can start to sort through whether this is a faction bitter over losing on draft day, or if he really is a pre-made bust.

  8. It's this. JR is going to own that land, sell the team before he has to pay much of anything, and cash out on the Sox. The 78 going through would be a move that Sox fans should be getting behind if you could read the tea leaves. And the other thing is, as I said before, this is further along than people want to realize. Sox are very much aware of what used to be on that land. They're aware of "the challenges" which any plot of land presents. And whoever said "Sox fans won't even drive past it", that couldn't be further from the truth. Roosevelt is already a major road in Chicago. That Target (which is literally across the street on Roosevelt is the most popular one in Chicago. There's a ton of foot traffic there as is due to bars, restaraunts, grocery stores, etc. I would venture to bet, that place would be visited (forget "driven past") way more than GRF due to location.

  10. He played well to close the season, and I'm hoping he has a great 2024, and possibly yields a solid prospect or two at the deadline if he has a good first half. From Lip's ST article:

  14. Didn't Garfein do a podcast on this? Ozzie Jr. was on to discuss it because Ozzie is Puig's manager right now in whatever Venezuelan league he's in. He's supposedly matured, and is crushing it in that league. Or he was at the time of the podcast. Count me in as interested in giving it a shot. Minor league deal with an invite to ST. It likely wouldn't cost them much, and if it doesn't pan out, just cut him.

  18. They’re trying to move away from bad clubhouse guys. I don’t think adding Puig helps that.

  19. I agree, but still they need to face the music. We do know if the Sox were what they claimed they would be the last 2 seasons, Soxfest would actually happen.

  20. Let's be honest here, the whole reason the fan base is upset about no Soxfest is they want the opportunity to yell at someone. The rest of it is a far 2nd place.

  21. Counter-point: If the abovementioned three bounce back and/or take a step forward, they get traded for prospects, replaced by even lesser players, and the Sox end up losing 100 games anyways.

  22. I think the key point is "don't tell me - show me you're paying millions toward a new stadium."

  23. It’s not, but why would Brooks and JR not want their PBP broadcaster to get national exposure and fame, other than his price increasing? They have been filling in for Stone for years. I don’t think he even ever flies to the west coast.

  31. IMO...if they are in fact offering one of Cowser/Kjerstad plus one of the second tier IFers and one of the two pitchers that is a good offer and ultimately should be accepted unless NYY gets desperate. I think Getz knows that BAL can't really sign anyone and Burnes isn't on the trade market so he can afford to just wait to see if NYY blinks in ST and is ultimately willing to put BOTH Jones and Hampton on the table plus a useful third piece.

  32. https://www.foxnews.com/sports/yankees-supposedly-asked-ex-outfielder-give-up-golf-injuries-former-mlb-player-says Just let Hicks play all the golf he wants in Chicago. Interesting that AJ Perzynski was somehow involved in breaking this story, but he’s an avid golfer as well. “According to former MLB catcher A.J. Pierzynski, the Yankees may have had a problem with Hicks competing in the offseason Hilton Grand Vacations Tournament of Champions, where he placed eighth on the celebrity leaderboard after his performance last weekend. “I don’t know if this is true or not, but Aaron Hicks used to play in this event a few years ago, and the Yankees told him he had to stop because they thought that’s why he was getting injured,” Pierzynski said on the “Foul Territory” show Thursday. “I don’t know if that’s true or not, but there was a rumor about that they told him he had to stop playing golf.” nypost.com

  33. He'll pass through waivers not get picked up and return to the Sox organization like a bunch of other guys this off-season have done.

  34. The question is actually answered by the fact that they haven't moved him yet - wait until he forces you to move him. Trea Turner was pretty weak defensively last year, but his bat is strong enough that he still plays as a very strong SS. If Colson's bat plays and he's a slightly below average SS, you keep him there and just deal with it, score more runs to make up for plays that aren't made. If you bring him up in '24-25 and he's just awful at SS, then you ask why no coach said to move him while in the minors, but you move him then. If Ramos is still on a path to the big leagues, maybe you work him in at DH, maybe you shift his position, maybe you're in a good enough position to consider a trade, maybe Colson gets hurt and you're happy you have the depth.

  37. Longenhagen is worth reading because he does have some interesting thoughts and insights on players but his grading scale/system is messed up and it doesn't always equal what he writes. These reports seem to be writen by someone named Tess sooooo.......yeah.

  38. Isn't waiting until they have a good season to bring it back more cowardly than bringing it back after a bad season? Don't get me wrong. I'm nowhere near ready to give them the benefit of the doubt on anything, but I don't really follow your logic here.

  39. Yes, poor Puig. Stroman and Anderson are definitely guys that Puig and other players should have modeled themselves after. ? One guy likes to accuse people of being racist and the other is in the news more these days because of his side piece action rather than his baseball performance.

  41. Thanks for moving. Since several players are projected to be with the team in 2024, I wasn't sure where to place the article. I liked reading the neutral perspective, and while there aren't many major contributors based on the current FV scores, they are not set in stone. Hoping the Sox continue to bring in quality external people to better select and develop players over the next few seasons. It's the only legitimate path to creating the team we all want in Chicago.

  42. I would enjoy him on the team. He brings excitement and flair. Many of his problems were that he was a loud Hispanic in a clubhouse that wanted only quiet. I'm a huge Dodger fan (my NL team since I moved out there for a bit) and I will say Kershaw and Greinke created a divide that made him to be the enemy. That, unfortunately, followed him everywhere he went so he didn't get a legit shot afterwards. With the Braves, he got hurt and that was that. I feel for him because he was maybe a year or two early. You see guys like Marcus Stroman or Tim Anderson who helped change people's minds that it's okay to be loud. Puig's fault is not reading the room to be honest.

  43. Because he is then not the broadcaster, he is a weekday fill in. I think the truth is in the middle someone with this. Stone has paid his dues and is in his waning years. When Benetti was hired I'm sure they were not looking to find a replacement almost every weekend so early into his tenure. Is there a number of actual games he worked last year? If they really liked McKnight, I think they would have tolerated paying Benetti less and work McKnight it more but I think Benetti balked at being paid less.

  45. Probably only @caulfield12will really notice but cool teacher day. When I teach Shakespeare we always discuss how you will find plots to his plays in every movie. I talk about watching Hotel Transylvania when reading Romeo and Juliet. Today was an easy day before the holiday weekend and we read Sonnet 3 by Shakespeare. Which by the way is not one of his greatest hits. The plan is I then play Dream On by Aerosmith, we chat a while about the similarities, and then I play classic rock for the rest of class. As I was starting a mix one kid requested Tom Sawyer. I'm thinking great idea. Cranked it to 11, jammed a bit, but before I could move on to Baba O'Reilly the kid starts a discussion about the lyrics. Coolest ten minutes listening to him. By the time he finished everyone wanted to hear it again and were pulling up lyrics on their phones.
